I've watched quite a few Micheal Dowd interviews. The man was an absolute savage. But he was FAR from alone. The corruption was systemic and rooted DEEPLY in the NYPD. He was just one of many.
This documentary is light weight. Read the book "Betrayal in Blue". It is insane the things these guys did in the streets. The audiobook may still be free on YT. Dowd's book "Good Cop, Bad Cop" has good reviews but I haven't read it yet.
I used to install key telephone systems in the city during the late seventies and eighties. East New York looked like Berlin post WW2. They had to give me landmarks to find buildings because there were no street signs and no cops. Anybody that wasn’t up to no good was locked behind bars or bulletproof glass. I always had my tool belt on with one hand on my framing hammer and the other in my awl.
my dad worked as supervisor in dowds precinct for a few months but not on the same tour. he said the few times he worked on same tour as dowd he would stick him in the hospital watching a sick prisoner or give him some other non enforcement post because he knew what a POS he was
Yeah and your dad was taking 2-3 hour meal breaks like all the other piece of shit supervisors while the real cops (not the test takers) were out on patrol on the street answering jobs instead of hiding upstairs with all the other bosses. GFY. 🖕🙄👎
The crazy part is that was all federal time. New York City/State didn't even prosecute him for being a dirty cop. They washed their hands of it and let the Feds bust him for dealing on Long Island, so in the end the NYPD didn't really do anything about his corruption on the job. The NYPD had no intention of knocking down the blue wall of silence.
What can you do about corruption on this magnitude. Looks like not much. Since the gang days in the 40’s then serpico now Dowd and all the rest of those police officers. Still going on no doubt in my mind. Sad.
I really hope the good ole “One Two Prescient” led by “Barney Miller” & “Luitenent Luger “ weren’t involved in this racket ;-) lol. Some old enough will get this comment lol.
It's definitely worth the watch. This is in the top 20 of all time great documentaries. I'm sure the books have more detail but this is a classic. It was basically the wild west.
I say for every 10 good cops there's fifteen right there after them.....they even said it, the good guy cops never last...especially in harcore areas.........and he says the ghetto has the most money, yea fucker I wonder how u know ? I say its easy 2 spot the cash in the ghetto when u around so much poverty...........u know I was thinking go do that same shit in upper Manhattan or whatever. Go to the neighborhoods where they have million dollar homes thats the real shit cases
Back then East New York was nothing to F with! That stretch from that Movie theater up Linden to Pennsylvania Ave was probably the most! Or definitely ONE of the most murderous stretches in the whole city! Just that one neighborhood averaged 225 to 250 murders a year! I think they had that many in the WHOLE CITY in 2023! That's why I laugh when I hear how "bad" it is there now😲🤔🤦🏿♂️😅 Yeah right! They had a police scandal somewhere in the BX or BK like every 6 months! And NOBODY was snitching! There and up where I lived in the South Bronx were the worst hoods in the country! Real talk! I am glad it got better! Because that was complete madness! This guy had PLENTY of company! Strangely🤔 Cops are not corrupt like that anymore! Idk why! Or who cleaned it all up! All I know is people pay $3,000 a month to live on blocks that were free fire zones! And people were getting kidnapped in broad daylight! This movie brings back so many memories! Thank God I made it through!🤷🏿🤦🏿♂️💯💯💯💯💯
Mike I have more respect for being drug dealer then a cop. I get it we don’t like dirty cops. The only problem I have is he didn’t give back it was pure greed. But you have to understand something back I. The 70s and 80s the five boroughs where as rich as they come if you have the balls, and Mike was a savage on the street all these cops go into the Academy thinking there going to do some good. But the streets have there own set of rules. If ur gonna do businesses on the street then be prepared for the consequences.
If I ever watch one of these docs, and the has been dope peddler says “I wasn’t the biggest drug dealer in the world”, I think I’ll faint. Every single one of them was bigger than the last. “Oh that guy wasn’t shit, I could take him off in a second: every damn one. Get real paco

He could have EASILY gotten away with more than half of the stuff they did, had it not been for greed. Wild times
Kenny isn’t as innocent as he proclaims. Making it seem like Mike made him do any of this shit is bs.
That’s because Kenny is nothing but a RAT he was just as guilty as Mike but sang like a parrot to save his own skin

Dowd's book "Good Cop, Bad Cop" has good reviews but I haven't read it yet.
We are all victims of the time we’re born into. Be strong Mr Dowd
He is an absolute savage. He should still be locked up
RIP Dori Eurell. She passed away a few years ago. This was Kenny’s wife
He really enjoyed that time, you can see it when he's talking about it.
Enjoyed that very much; thanks for posting. God bless.
Michael Dowd was a crooked cop, but he was a loyal friend anybody that’s had a real loyal friend knows that’s worth a lot more
There was a punk rock group called London Cowboys and they did a song Blue Murderer
Would like to see Mike Dowd sit down with Sammy the Bull and talk about NYC in the 80s
Hell of an idea.
Yeah, but Sammy the Bull is a RAT
@@jeffreycasey what do you consider Mike then? Him testifying in front of a congressional meeting
Mike NEVER ratted!!! He ONLY agreed to testify about himself and nobody else!
he reminds me of joe pesci in goodfellas 🤣
Excellent Story. Well Told.
That was an amazing documentary... highly recommend....
Damn, I just watched this from beginning to end. It had to be good to hold my attention that long
It's so hard to believe. We probably got 10% of the stories.

No cameras. Can you imagine what went on?
the wife was not innocent! i bet she was a regular griselda blanco
Good documentary.
Man!!. What a story
Fascinating.

''Hey Joe, the year wasn't a total waste--the Rangers won the cup.''
Love it
12 years is pretty light
Also, check out the movies 'Rampart' and 'We Own This City'
Betrayal in Blue book is fire 🔥
Dowd got only 12 years, after all that????

More respect for the drug dealers than two faced cops
Michael dowd is a legend😂😂 i like tgis guy
Fuck the guns there's money in that bag 😂😂😂😂😂😂 exactly what I would say

I passed examines to be a SD sheriff back in the 80s. When I learned that I had to be part of there gang I quit
I'll watch later. Just woke up

agreed ....well worth watching...one of the best documentaries I've ever seen
46:11 sadly with all of that power, he still could not manage those eyebrows 😂
I watched this a few years ago and it plays out like a Scorsese movie. What stood out was how much they earned per Month. It was an enormous sum!!
And the pigs are still corrupt
Yeah! Right on Comrade!
@1:06:54 take one guess why he would not help find that cop killer🤔
The line gang lives on in NYC to this day
If he got your back,he got your back, even if he put me in jail,if he got your back he got your back
Forget about Beverly hills, the ghetto is the richest place there is.
Dead.
Not just one bad apple. Still today they're everywhere. The blue gang
armed gangsters working for the small wealthy population, not a free country at all
Not true there is thousands of honest men and women doing the profession proud
@joeelia6495 I agree but everyday you hear of a bad one. What I said is true
Even that one bad apple can do alot of damage in a neighborhood, so imagine what more than one can do.
