Thank you Stewart for taking your time with the video. Usually I can't watch a video when the motion is so fast. It literally makes me ill. You take you time filming. Thank you
Most of us would look for those perfect unfolded leaves without any flaws. At least I would. Yet you find beauty in the imperfect and turn it into a rare beauty! You are amazing. Always something new to learn. You always inspire me.
My mom and I used to go and forage in the fall. Milkweed pods, cat tails, leaves, acorns, pinecones and more. It was so much fun. I just picked up 40 pounds of buckeyes from our tree. They have never been this abundant. I shared them with my girlfriends. I (we) use them as bowl fillers. Had a brainstorm and drilled holes in a bunch of them and made a decor strand to loop or hang. It's so much fun. Your vision is always impeccable and I love your channel. As always thank you so much. Enjoy the rest of this beautiful fall season.
I have no idea if you get comments added to old videos, but I’ve gone back to your previous fall ones for ideas while you are on sabbatical. This one is fantastic. I loved foraging with our four children on walks and made wreaths with them (I still have!). I need to forage again - great ideas. I laughed a lot through this, but then actually cried when you started spray painting in bright colors - just touched me how creative you are! Thank you for being you. 🍁🐿️🍂
Totally delightful video! Our wedding was September 30 fifty one years ago this year. The florist for our wedding used the most gorgeous vine leaf maple branches to decorate the church. I still can visualize them, and it was gorgeous! Thank you for inspiring me to go out foraging for leaves and spray paint them!! So many fabulous ideas you've shared, Linda! 🤎🍁🧡🍂 Linda
Several years ago I spray painted oak and sycamore leaves bronze, gold and silver and put them in my Christmas tree and all the swags that I hung. I loved the way they looked and using leaves from my yard. Another thing that I'm always looking for is small heart shaped rocks. I have about 10 of them. ;
Foraging is so awesome on our hobby farm..yesterday..rose hips(wild), walnut shells,grapevines,sticks,leaves...endless ideas. In a month or so, we will collect pine/evergreens for porch pots. Assorted pine cones are great too, bird feathers...old sunflower heads...
Linda, as I am cleaning off my flower beds (5 large ones), I find myself looking for things to forage. After watching you use dried things that most of us would not think about using, I have a new appreciation of dried things in the garden!! Love your channel so much!!
When my sister and I were young, our favorite Halloween books were the Dorrie books by Patricia Coombs. They all start out with, "This is Dorrie. She is a witch. A little witch. Her hat is always crooked and her socks never match." I read them to my sons too. My son's favorite is still Dragon's Halloween by Dav Pilkey. I still enjoy reading kids' holiday books. Nice to know I'm not alone, Linda! 🙂 I'm going to try to find a copy of Feathertop. I had never heard of that one.
I, too, gather what I refer to as, nature’s discards. Last year, I collected 3 mammoth sycamore leaves, sprayed them with gloss clear coat, and they survived being stored. I’m using them for decor, again, this year. Other “discards”, that I’ve gathered are seed pods from trees or flowers, or half eaten pine cones (they’re really quite interesting), a small wasp nest that was broken open, a faded rose, petals still intact… whatever else catches my eye. Being an artist, I have a sketchbook dedicated to my finds. One for discards from trees, another for discards from flowers. I, also, collect dried orchid blossoms from my plants - not all of them, but the more interesting ones. What others see as nature’s discarded trash, I see as beauty in nature’s cycles.
I always taught our daughters to celebrate the everyday & treat every person with great respect ie the individual who cleaned their college dorms the same as their profs.
👋 Hi Linda!!! It would be great if you asked your neighbors when they take the skeleton down if you could videotape them how they take it down and store it 💭🤔
Oh my goodness, I love , love these kind of videos, because someone realize that fall is not just about pumpkins and Jack o lantern and witches, ect... FALL, the word is self explanatory, apple, pumpkin picking, corn, dry leaves, acorns, thank you Linda, please continue to inspire us, and bring us back to the basics of life, GB ❤
Oh, Linda, you would enjoy foraging here in the piney woods of east Texas. Besides the regular pine needles, pine cones and assorted leaves, I have found the most precious mounding reindeer moss that dries blue/gray. Also tree lichens and turkey tail shelf fungus find their way into my holiday decor. Holler at me if you want any.
Linda, your grand babies to come are going to be so fortunate to have such a creative and inspirational grandmother, because you already love them. Even just the thought of them brings such enjoyment to you. It shines through ❤️❤️❤️
Linda I do not have any grandkids either; however, I have many favorite children's books in my library. I taught preschool for 19 years...and I am the oldest sister of 9 siblings. This position placed me as a semi-mother to the younger ones. I loved to read stories while rocking them in the creaky old rocking chair. Taking the little ones on a neighborhood walk to collect favorite found sticks, stones and leaves was a joy remembered. Thanks for your always welcoming channel.
I loved all that you collected on your walks. Once again, this reminds me of my childhood when I would always look for my treasures and keep them in special places. I still come across them from time to time going through old things. This was in the 50’s and I still love to forage. Best decoration material’s to choose from and they’re free. Alway lovely to see your creations Linda, thanks.
You are so funny, but you are right, the dead iris fronds look like corn stalks and they also remind me of deer antlers for some reason…it is that wonderful natural color. I think that bouquet of leaves and Iris looks fantastic!
Love your foraged finds❣️. I have foraged for nature's treasures all my life. Every trip my husband and I take I forage things from the area. Often I take a long a plant press. Its one of the best part of a trip for me. I put the leaves, bark, cones, flowers etc in a pretty dish with a small card of where we were. After a while when I have new replacements I put them (leaves, cones, bark etc) together with the others and add to the large potpourri mix. The pressed flowers and leaves I often make cards with those. Happy fall! 🍂
Fun ideas with the leaves. I find them lovely, and think spraying them may help them last longer. I just pulled out some special storybooks for Fall. I do have grandchildren coming to visit, but also enjoy looking at the illustrations. As a child I always appreciated when there were books or activities for us, when we went somewhere with my parents.
Linda you have inspired me!! I live in the North Carolina mountains and the foraging possibilities are endless! I love the leaf bouquets! Can’t wait until tomorrow morning to get out there and start collecting! Thank you so much. Happy Fall! 🍁
You're certainly dressed for the season! Here in Southern CA we don't really have good leaves, etc. But in the parking lot of a nearby Lowe's there are trees that drop pinecone-like things. And right now my neighbor's magnolia tree is dropping good-sized leaves that are kind of a persimmon color.
I just made a woodland scene with preserved things from my yard and added burr oak acorns. Just so fun and pretty. Also make mushrooms with acorn caps and piece of branches. Makes great mushrooms!!
I appreciate that you include the message to people not to forage on other peoples property! Most land does belong to someone, even if the forager doesn’t know who the owner is and that ignorance doesn’t give them the right to take from that land. So many times I have seen people take from my family’s property without asking. If you believe that what you are taking isn’t a big deal, then you should still ask! Because, if you don’t, that is stealing, not foraging! I get a chuckle out of your October “caramel “ because what you see as “caramel “ comes across, on my monitor at least, as pumpkin colored, not caramel. 😀😀😀
Love your ideas and Stewart’s chuckling. We have mostly small pine trees in our neighborhood but my neighbor has a young tree with the leaves you are using. They are small but I have been picking up what blows into our yard. Also on my walk this morning I am going to pick up some pine needles if I find some. Thanks for your tips.
Yes, my mom was prescribed AREDs 2 for prevention of macular degeneration. Loved the foraging finds. I have a Larch tree that drops inch long cones, that I use to mulch all my containers.
You are a never-ending wealth of knowledge & inspiration!!! Running out to grab some sycamore leaves!! I know where there are a lot of these trees!!!! ❤❤❤
Did you see that dark coloured butterfly right beside Linda?! Amazing! Just like your foraging finds! Amazing! I think about you as I make my floral arrangements… which I love doing especially when company is coming. Thanks for sharing all the wonderful ideas! ❤️ Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!! 🇨🇦
Love to forage, my husband did craft shows with things we made, one item was lampshades we made using old lamp shades that we decoupaged hornet nest sheets on the lamp shade the colors that showed through were beautiful when the lamp was turned on. Try this when the hornets leave the nest in the winter.
I love this video, you are a soul sister! Say, with the sweet gum or sycamore tree balls, perhaps continue the thought of white or a contrasting color? I love the imagery of the blue leaves with a white or other color that is highlighted elsewhere in your home.
So thankful I did not miss this very unique ideas segment of naturalistic creativity decorational ideas that are absolute!y beautiful as you continue to be. Love it and will certainly will use these ideas for Christmas packages as well as tree decor . Thank you again for all your dynamic idea sharing.
One Christmas I picked up sycamore leaves and used gold rub on the leaves, as a highlight. Placed them on my Christmas tree, with white light, gold ornaments, white ornaments and other natural items. It was beautiful. Love your channel. Thanks for sharing. Happy Fall Y'all!🍁🍂
Thank you for another great video. I have such fond memories of foraging for pieces of nature with my 3 kiddos and I am now doing that with my 3 yr old grandson. Your love and display of simplistic decor is so enjoyable. I LOVE that skeleton - it's AWESOME and to think he was on the welcoming committee before you even realized it! I remember when your son Johnny referenced 'Feathertop' in the video when you announced you were moving. Love to you and Stewart ❤
You speak to my heart all about foraging and making natural wreaths etc for the upcoming holidays it’s so fun and creative juices get going to enhance our sense of wellbeing!!! Great video👍👍
I always say this, but I just love all of your videos. The view that we see in all areas of your yard and home are always so clear and so well done. Last Thanksgiving I sprayed painted a variety of hosta leaves that I dried and had them in a tall/bronze colored vase on my entry table. When are kids come, they seem to get a kick out of seeing my decorations for the season. My granddaughter felt the painted hosta leaves and said "Grandma, you need to water your plant because it is dry". Thank you for all of your tips, I have used many of them in my outdoor and indoor decorations!!
Zone 5b, western NY where we have more cows than people. My new way of cooking sweet corn, which is grown in abundance here, is to cut off the end, leave the husks and silks in place and microwave for 2 min an ear. When done, remove silks by pulling straight out and pull off husks. I left the pile of husks out on the counter top overnight, quite by accident. In the morning they were almost dry and had retained their green color. Mmmmm, what to do? I gathered them into small bunches and inserted them into my garland, on my wreath and in my floral decorations. They had dried in an organic way and gave a woodsy look to everything I put them in. And, best part, they were free? I live in the woods and so gather frequently and love it. Thanks Linda.
I love everything that you found! 😃👍🏻 I think the okra pods would look beautiful spray painted either a silver or vintage gold. You have inspired me to go forage. Enjoy your treasures. 😃
Another fun day making decorations. Good job on designing the leaf bouquet great ideas but we don’t have that type of leaves where I live in SoCal. Love the shirt set. That Skelton is tall lots of them here too .
Last year I made leaf bouquets from sycamore leaves after watching your video. Plan to do it again this year. My husband's opthomoligist recommended Areds and we've been taking them for a few years.
I found red pointed leaves in the grocery store parking lot. When I was home I pressed them under a trivet. My books are full of pressed flowers. My Armenian grandmother taught me to appreciate plants & nature. She would tear a leaf & offer it to me to smell. "The best things in life are free." I love you & Stewart.
Oh Linda, What wonderful ideas you have. What about all your different pods, and spent blooms in your new gardens??? spraying some of them..... also on New England Fine Living you tube Linda is making a garland with the leaves......can you imagine your sprayed leaves in a garland? !!! Beautiful. Fun video Thank you. Happy Hunting.
We live in Boise, Idaho and have beautiful fall color. It hasn't quite happened yet but I love collecting all the red and orange leaves that fall on the ground. Most of them are small, though, so I'm not sure if I could make a bouquet, but I will definitely think about that while I'm collecting them! I'll 🍁
Now I know why your fingertips were blue, LOL! The painted leaves really do look lovely. Thank you for the book suggestions, especially the "Factfulness" book. I just ordered it from our library.
Linda be care with the dry decorated corn if you plan on storing it for next year. I bought some last year and stored it under my bed in a bin, well in the spring moths hatch out and my house was full of pesky moths. It was a nightmare! Store in a zip lock bag until you know it's okay.
I want to know how you keep your legs in such great shape!!! Use your painted leaves as picks that normally cost a fortune! Love your new backyard design. Thanks for all you do! And your whole crew and family. 🪴😎✌🏻
You are so creative! I just wish I had half of it! Guess I don’t need it since I have you to give me ideas that I would never think about doing. Thank you!
I have been foraging for years, my favorite place is Zionsville IN (I know you are familiar 😊) and you are so right about this being the best time of the year to forage my question to you is what do you take along with you to collect your valuables 😊? I carry a canvas bag you may have a better idea
I loved the copper decor with the copper metal tray - I am going to recreate this. Do you mind sharing the name of the spray paint color - or maybe it is just good old copper! Thank you for a wonderful video full of inspiration.
Thank you Stewart for taking your time with the video. Usually I can't watch a video when the motion is so fast. It literally makes me ill. You take you time filming. Thank you
Hi Stewart you are a great filmmaker and a great addition to Linda’s videos. 😊

What a delightful vlog❤ One of my favorite features of your TH-cams are hearing Stuart's chuckles...it makes me smile😊
I can forage in my yard and all around where I live. I live in Tennessee, we have beautiful fall finds.
So excited for you both in this new change of your lives. We will be here to share it all with you

Brilliant! Thank you for this video that shows you don't have to go to Michaels or Hobby Lobby for your fall decorations.

I love to forage for rocks and stone. Favor white or black. I live on the coast and love to collect shells and sharks teeth or drift wood 💖
Wouldn’t it be fun to walk with you to forage nature’s gifts! Thanks for sharing.

Linda, I really appreciate your ability to use so many great descriptors when you speak. You have a stellar working vocabulary!
Remarkable lady. I will never look at leaves the same way again. Thank you

Love the painted leaves, since my Xmas decor is all in the teals. Great ideas. Always love your videos. Keep them coming. Makes my day🍁🍂💕
The Talking Eggs is a precious book! The version I used in my classroom was by Robert D. San Souci

Love this!!!
🧡💛🧡love all the great suggestions… 🍂🍁thank you! I love your neighborhood.💛🍁🍂
I love to do this on trips. Leaves from north California, acorns from North Carolina, beach shells Florida and rocks from west texas
You speak to my heart all about foraging and making natural wreaths etc for the upcoming holidays it’s so fun and creative juices get going to enhance our sense of wellbeing!!! Great video👍👍

Another fun day making decorations. Good job on designing the leaf bouquet great ideas but we don’t have that type of leaves where I live in SoCal. Love the shirt set. That Skelton is tall lots of them here too .
Great foraging ideas!🍁🍂🍁🍂
Last year I made leaf bouquets from sycamore leaves after watching your video. Plan to do it again this year. My husband's opthomoligist recommended Areds and we've been taking them for a few years.

Love this🍂
Really enjoyed this episode and I am so inspired!
What a fun video! Those blue leaves are gorgeous!
Just bought one of those skeletons for my niece in Texas… road trip to bring it to her north of Houston
Oh Linda, What wonderful ideas you have. What about all your different pods, and spent blooms in your new gardens??? spraying some of them..... also on New England Fine Living you tube Linda is making a garland with the leaves......can you imagine your sprayed leaves in a garland? !!! Thanks for mentioning the pine straw. I potted an Encore Azalea this spring and have tons of pine straw to mulch it with!
Dear Linda. That orange color is definitely your color!!!
And it sure looks orange- not cara-MEL.
I could see the blue leaves running down the middle of the dining table with pears and white roses.
Loved this fall idea video
Linda be care with the dry decorated corn if you plan on storing it for next year. I bought some last year and stored it under my bed in a bin, well in the spring moths hatch out and my house was full of pesky moths. It was a nightmare! Store in a zip lock bag until you know it's okay.
Good knowledge
Nature finds is my favorite way to decorate. There’s so many textures and colors. Embracing Autumn is good for the soul…🍁 🍂 🎃 thanks for the video!
I want to know how you keep your legs in such great shape!!! Use your painted leaves as picks that normally cost a fortune! Love your new backyard design. Thanks for all you do! And your whole crew and family. 🪴😎✌🏻
Linda, love your hair this way!!
Such an inspiring video! Thanks for the dried leaf ideas
I have thoroughly enjoyed this fabulous video. Thx for the great tips and ideas.
You are so creative! I just wish I had half of it! Guess I don’t need it since I have you to give me ideas that I would never think about doing. Thank you!
Love the colors of your leaves
I enjoy foraging. I love the leaf bouquets.
Great ideas, and I love to create, will be doing a fall display, from the things I find ,
I have been foraging for years, my favorite place is Zionsville IN (I know you are familiar 😊) and you are so right about this being the best time of the year to forage my question to you is what do you take along with you to collect your valuables 😊? I carry a canvas bag you may have a better idea
I walk several times daily and pick up nature treasures along the way. I spray shellac on pretty leaves and acorns, too.
Love the blue 💙🩵
I loved the copper decor with the copper metal tray - I am going to recreate this. Do you mind sharing the name of the spray paint color - or maybe it is just good old copper! Thank you for a wonderful video full of inspiration.
The little ball on the leaf cluster would pop with a slightly different color or hue!
