The biggest mistake was putting a person in charge who is clearly incompetent, and cannot understand basic expert advice on management of epidemics.
The selection process for the job of PM that chose this goose is also to blame.

He believed and still does he is special and above the law! His narcissistic sociopathic personality disorder means telling lies and gaslighting means nothing to him, he has no real, capacity for empathy or compassion in any way, his overriding interest is and always has been in himself, he needs narcissistic supply to survive he cannot accept anything else but being special and entitled, despite his pretence of apology and humility the man is a self serving monster!

What the inquiry should be investigating is the state of Boris's finances at the time of the outbreak of covid. This throws light on why he missed vital Cobra meetings and his flippant attitude at the time towards the virus. Truth beknown, Boris was more concerned over personal matters - a tax bill to settle at the end of January and divorce proceedings. Remember, he had to give up his Daily Mail column and after-dinner speeches, and put on hold a book he was writing on Shakespeare due to him being PM. IMO the stresses I mention influenced his attitude and decisions at that time which ultimately resulted in the slow response to the pandemic.

  • @MGHarris

Stopped watching when the response to Johnson's spurious reasons for the UK's poor performance during covid was edited out. I listened to it live, and the response was that actually we performed comparably with Bulgaria, which Johnson refused to say was not really a comparable Western European country, and to his excuse that the UK has a high population density and high proportion of elderly citizens, the response was that South Korea has more elderly people, a higher population density, and had far fewer covid deaths.
Mr Keith repeatedly read out scientific evidence from highly reputable sources and Johnson flatly contradicted them with zero evidence.
Looks like this is edited to make Johnson look less awful.

He was bent over a barrel. He had two hurdles to get over.
      1. Keep the public safe
2,. Keep his team/government working in a very difficult and demanding situation.
How he dealt with the public was to ask them to keep apart to stop the spread and keep their families safe.
How he managed his team/ BUBBLE. was to keep them motivated, positive and working in a country that even their families were being effected, in what should have been a closed environment that should have never left No.10. blame the lizard that leaked it. Boris did a good job in an uncertain and demanding situation. Not to forget. He had COVID and carried on with the task while having to watch out for the vultures overhead. Pessimistic Press, other (no better) political parties and his own back stabbing members of his own party!!
No wonder Putin has invaded Ukraine. Because we can't even stand by our own elected leader. For more than five minutes, because we all "THINK" That we all could do it better.

@@cobbler40 Potentially. One difficulty is that prominent people, many of whom we revere, from previous generations, were just as fault-ridden as the current crop. But they did not have the instant and constant in depth scrutiny of every word spoken, every action, every single thing written in public or private. In addition the general population were generally speaking more forgiving and less demanding of continual and unachievable perfection.
