Thanks to Thomas Heaton for sending me this way. I just recently posted a video with very similar thoughts to this. I am tired of being tied to a corporate job. Life is so much more than working to increase somebody else's wealth by sacrificing my health. Excellent video!

Very topical coming across this in Thomas Heaton's latest newsletter as I feel stresslaxing sums up a lot of how I feel at the moment. Can't say it is doing me any good. I'll definitely be taking Sunday off.

Well said! We get it. We decided to get out and travel and explore van life before we were too old to enjoy it. Traveling, photography, and making videos about our experiences. ....I've never felt guilty about relaxing. If you don't care for yourself, no one else will and you'll burn out.

Came to this from Thomas Heaton's newsletter. I saw something similar that asked the question about what regrets you'll be thinking about when you know your time is up, and that you should do what you can now to remove those regrets if you can. I'm too far down the line - 55, happily married, two children 21 & 25 - to change direction and be selfish with my future, and I've long accepted that I WILL have some regrets. I think this is healthy though as I can focus my energies on what makes me, my wife, my daughter, and my son happy in life... no matter how long that life is :)

Great video! It took a heart attack, diabetes, and a bunch of other metabolic disorders to make me realize that at 65, I was killing myself working a job from hell, that was only making things worse. Best thing to happen was my job was outsourced and I was terminated 4 months shy of full retirement age. Almost immediately, my health improved, AFib and Diabetes got back under control as all the stress was gone. Made me reassess what I wanted for the remainder of my life. Realized that there was just so much stuff in my life I could do without. This fits in well with my following the principles of stoicism. Thanks to Tom H. for recommending your channel.

Just getting the right balance - my economics professor once said that as long as your bills are paid, there's food on the table and kids are clothed - you're rich. Everything else is extra.

Dude! Thanks for publishing this (and @Thomas Heaton for recommending). What a wonderful message. This seriously brightened my day.
I don't agree with you that you only have '...twenty years left...' to do active things, though. I and my friends are approaching sixty and we're still hiking and mt. biking, skiing and climbing just as much and as hard as we did thirty years ago - maybe more so. And to an extent, we make our own families - so perhaps some of those we call friends may well be thinking of us. Hopefully these comments add to the wonderful message and tone. They are certainly meant to do so.

I don't know how old you are, but I am nearly 65, and I can tell you that you have much more than 20 years of activity ahead of you. It changes over time, but you're still active. The rest of your message hits home; I'm retiring, with a bit of a nest egg and getting a vanbuild underway, because there is so much exploration ahead. Who knows?, I may be able to tell good stories to other women of a "certain age".

I just undergone a cancer operation, am 61, and very much still doing things actively and see no end due to my age !
Hope you enjoy your up coming retirement plans, and as I think you are saying if you have lead an active life ‘before’ there is no real reason turning the great age of 60 and beyond things can not continue

Thanks for the kind words! And I appreciate what you're saying. We've got local kitesurfers and bikers who are well over 70 and still shredding. I took a number of big hits, including one knee already restored, this latest shoulder injury that's not going to fully heal and I need another one on my right knee. Not sure how long these fixes will keep me going so as soon as I can I'm going back to full throttle until I can't anymore :) Enjoy building up the van! My old girl will be getting retired this year so I'll have another one to convert over the winter :)
