@@baldermort It has certainly been busy- I had a fun idea where you could voice two imperial citizens debating which of two primarchs would have handled a particular situation affecting the Imperium better. A fun vehicle to infuse banter and "who could beat up who" and speculation/ fan theories, legend and lore- while still being in universe as it were- keep up the great work- i was pumped to see you made a dreadnought video- I remember seeing a dreadnought at a GW store when I was a kid and I thought it was the coolest thing ever.
the two citizens talking could also convey how citizens grasp these figures handed down through the generations, and what they've come to represent to them- it also allows for injections of apocryphal imagination- and how "true" events have grown exaggerated or denied based on how individual people have their own synthesis and viewpoints.
When the DARK ANGEL Captain is channeling his inner D&D Dungeon Master and asking: "Are you SURE you want to do that?" You damn well better listen.
ROFL! Bwahahahahaha. NOw that was damn funny. :)

The Dark Angels remind me of an old joke. An elderly Irish man sits in the pub, and shares his woes after every drink. When the Loin actually does return he'll probably start slapping his arrogant, callus sons around. His legion and his planet was sundered because of his own arrogance. I've heard from some in the know that Luther was NOT chaos tainted and had legitimate issues with their treatment.
@@georgestauber2636 Luther also almost let a bomb kill the Lion because he considered letting him die so he could take his place, which is a big part as of why him and his most loyal men were sent off to Caliban. Lion was uncertain as to Luther's motives and true desires and didn't want him to be a issue during the Crusade. Either way it was Luther's pride, arrogance and jealousy that caused the fall of Caliban. Lion could have certainly handled it better but he has always been the most anti-social Primarch, people skills are not his forte lol. Prettttty sure Luther was Chaos tainted though, sounds like some Heresy you've been listening too!
@@Watcher-in-the-Dark There was a book published they pulled. They pulled it because they'd felt they'd given too much away. I'm trying to remember all of the details but Luthur being "chaos tainted" is what the modern Dark angels have been told and is not the truth. Generations of Dark angels have tried and failed to get him to confess without success for very good reason he wasn't guilty. The truth was he had reasons to be angry and many more had reasons along with him. When the watchers first met the Lion they almost killed him. Until one said "he doesn't know what he is doing". The beasts they were so busy killing were there to keep chaos taint in check.

*Well, it seems we're about to find out. It just happened.*
I remember as a high schooler when I heard a "professional storyteller" was coming to school.
I thought "how lame is that?"
But he was captivating and in my years since I have found that the story is the most powerful force in the universe.
Those that wield it thus, should be treasured.
It is literally our oldest tradition, predating fire I conclude.
Horus feared Guilliman for his logistical talents and the Ultramarines vast support network from the 500 worlds. He feared the dogged determination and devotion of Russ and his sons. Horus feared the Lion more. Not because a vast support network of hundreds of worlds, nor because of the barely controlled fury of the his warriors, but because Horus knew in the that the Lion's instinctual battlefield acumen was far greater than his. If the position of Warmaster did not require so much politcal ability and understanding, Horus would not have been the Warmaster. Horus knew this, he knew that if he had not been the first to be reunited with the Emperor and thus was present when every other Primarch was brought back into the fold, that he would have been passed over.
Like there are some more reason on why the Lion would be like the primarch of the primarchs.
For one Malcador explained on how Lion el Johnson had a special presence ( like mortarion) which resemblemed that of the Emperor, not as mighty of the Emp. but similar.
Then he continues that he behaved and acted like an apex predator, watching everyone in the room, looking for their weaknesses , observing their movements and their gestures all kinds of stuff.
Also, when he was found by the big E and started his crusades he got close to all of the achievements Horus had when he became the warmaster. In short horus had many years for startup with his crusades and the Lion just nearly got him in the winning scores.
Otherwise the Lion can never be bargained with since a fucking fateweaver looked into his heart to see what he desires and found nothing, in the next second Lion just fucking murdered him ultra hard and later on when he confronted conrad, he stabbed him so fast his movements were not visible for someone who observed the brothers and proceeded to say : "Loyalty is it's own reward" like he is completly merciless towards any kind of traitors and perhaps Horus knew about it otherwise he would have never sended the Dark Angel legion to the edge of the galaxy just so they can not interfere in the war when the horus heresy started.
He feared the Lion because he knew how duplicitous his legion could be.
The lion had no peers militarily speaking but was uncharasmatic . All said the emperor let his emotions of finding his first son get in the way. Lion should have been 1st choice Sanguinius second

Tbh, had the position of warmaster not reauired politics, chances are Horus would propably hapoily give the honor over, before he fell, he was one of the most reasonable primarchs
Main lesson in wh30k: NEVER HESITATE to KILL the HERETIC or the galaxy gets rekted . Russ and the Emperor hesitated to kill Horus. The Lion hesitated to kill Luther. Now the galaxy is paying for that.
Don't forget about Fulgrim, he was warned about the possibility of Horus turning traitor and could have blown Horus up before he turned traitor but he hesitated.
No hesitation, no mercy. Learn from the emperor’s own mistake and destroy the enemies of his imperium the second they rear their ugly heads.

Lion is like the Primarch who is confidence incarnate. He knows he is that damn good. Does not need to boast or cry about lack or attention. He knows he is of the top 3 best Primarchs. Granted this does make him a bit worse at cooperation between his brothers(Why I would choose Sang for Warmaster). I remember I think it was Malcador talking to the Emperor about possible traitor Primarchs and the Emperor just straight up said "No the Lion is loyal" as if he never even had a doubt.
Dark Angels are my first army I started playing in 40k. I love their lore and you have once again done another great video that does them justice. "Repent! For tomorrow you die!!"

honestly if the Lion ever wakes up and returns and see's what is happening lets just say someone is going to have a very very bad day. Orks massing in a warband like never before seen, almost surrounding Terra . Guilliman making Peace Treaty's with the Eldar (Xenos red flag right their) abaddon just being abaddon going into a fight and then retreating again lol. The empreror's space marine chapters scattered all over space while terra could end up being under threat any given time, yeaah as soon as the lion wakes up he's going to be one grumpy man when he wakes up.

My enjoyment of the Dark Angels had kinda faded away recently, but this video made rekindled that enjoyment and increased it ten fold. Reading the comments I thought "surely the end speech cant be THAT good." Ho-ly shit... chills.
And this right here, is why I've been in love with the Dark Angels since I first started playing. No other Legion no other FORCE in the Galaxy can match them. I've heard seen the memes, heard the taunts and then shot stabbed and trampled my opponents under armoured green boots.
And as it should be the only ones to stop me or slow me down have been another Legion. A Black one.

@@CousinJesse1 So when I first walked into a GW store at start of 8th, I was buying a ton of guard tanks and troops for my first army. I saw the Fortress Of Redemption and thought it would be cool for my table (and it is very awesome). Over time my friends told me about Dark Angles and recommended their play style would be good for me since my Scions were all about that plasma. I grew to like their lore too. Also IF upgrade spreus were not available at the time.

Although the Crimson Fists are my favorite Chapter, Dark Angels are a very close second! You’re amazing voice does this shadowy Chapter justice

I especially loved your ending, the memes are old yet we dark angels have endured as always. They will mock us, and when the Lion returns they will run. Excellent production. I do find it funny however that the Dark Angels seem to think that their reputation within the Imperium is positive, when the reality is that most people within the Imperium dislike and/or fear them.
I view them as a whole like Godzilla.
As some giant octopus is about crush my ass I won't be complaining if a nastier bigger beast opts to join the brawl haha.
Like a child, returning to hear a retelling of his favorite story, I come to listen once again to this epic saga of the Emperors finest.
Oh Baldermort, your talent for bringing this lore to life is spectacular. And this video brings me back to my internal conflict of which legion and primarch are my favorite between the Dark Angels and the Fists. Your enthusiasm and passion are intoxicating.

@@baldermort They are The First, and I always hate playing against them even with my proud sons of Fenris, so they already command my respect. Still they missed a huge chance with the Angels and the Primaris, as like hell would they ever of accepted them and could of used that as a springboard for real conflict driven drama, you tell the Dark Angels what to do like you tell the Space Wolves what to do. Really enjoying the audio drama parts that you add though, really elevates it above the norm.
46:25 that bullpup bolter is actually really cool. Too bad they didn't use that design for the stalker pattern/occulus bolt rifle to distinguish it better.

As a Dark Angel player, who has returned after more than twenty years to the hobby (you may call it a slumber), has assembled several companies of the First and will build up a Heresy army clad in black, looking for the final appearance/release of the Fallen to crush them on the battlefields of the 41st (and if we are lucky even 31st) millennium - and as a player who back in the nineties knew the Lion is alive and will return, never doubting the truth that WE are the true loyalists - I humbly thank you for this video. And the final speech was brilliant. You might not be a Dark Angels player, but you have the heart of one and did them an honor.

There were things the emperor entrusted to the lion and his dreadwing and the ironwing that he never talked about to any other legion or Primarch because while Russ was the open violent threat the lion was the final solution because in the name of duty to his father there was nothing he would not do. The lion is the best Primarch simply because of his ability to overcome any and every obstacle no matter how tough not to mention he’s the template every other Primarch was formed from.
Quoting someone (probably Baldermort….): when the Emperor wants to make an example, he sends the Wolves, when he wants nothing left at all he sends the Lion.

Other than the Raven Guard I agree but my bird boys are the most efficient in my humble opinion. That's y the Dark Angles are my 2nd favorite tied with the Emperors Children.

I've always called The Raven guard the common-sense Marines. If you look at the way that the Raptors fight it's basically the way that are Special Forces fight the right way. The most realistic way
@@baldermort I always like The Emperor's Children because of the way they are said to work with the Imperial Army. They like to combine all the forces and make the Army run like a well-oiled machine. They also approach most things from a common sense point of view(before their corruption).
The Dark Angels seem to be the most well-rounded. I think they were meant to be the Emperor's police force

Only found your channel today and have thoroughly enjoyed the vids I’ve watched, you have the perfect gravitas in your voice for this. I am in full agreement with your off script speech on the Lion at the end!
I've never liked the Dark Angles before watching this. I knew they had operated as a legion before any other and had prototype weapons even Guilliman didn't recognise ect, but i never found their abrasive stuck up attitude, secrecy and mistrust of everyone appealing. However, i didn't know about the war against the Rangdan or their impressive clutching of it. I still don't like the shady bastards but... they've leaped over the Raven Guard and White Scars in my list of interesting loyalist legions.
I think they are all very interesting in their own way. Its a great thing about 40K that it can elicit real passion and discussion. DA can be very stuck up, but I think that is just feeling under siege. :)

I got in to 40k because of the dark angels. I thought they were the coolest thing I had ever seen and had to know more about them. Now years later I try to get in at least 2 games a week and have around 100 Warhammer books AND watch TH-cam videos about it lol. Keep up the great content Sir.
Two games a week? I am jealous! Very! I try to get to my local club on Wednesdays but its not as regular as I would like. The videos often take over all of my time. :(
Maybe one day I will get quicker at them. But then, every time I do I try to make them better. Its such a stiff learning curve. :)

@@eetuhinkkainen angels of darkness is a good one and the Horus heresy books fallen angels and decent of angels my favorite's. But I like most WH 40k and fantasy books lol. I would start with the heresy books first because it kinda lets you know why the dark angels are who they are and why they do things the way they do them. Hope this helps you out.
