    Had a Cairn for 14 years. Died this past February. Best dog I ever owned. Got along with people but some dogs he would try to bite. Depends on the approach. Walked twice a day but hated the snow and rain. Great pet smartest dog I ever owned. New how to open closet and get his cookies. Had to lock them up.

    We had a female Cairn Terrier and she was a wonderful dog that we loved very much and she gave us more love than I can even explain. She lived to a ripe old age of 14 1/2 but she did develop health problems starting about 12 years old. But we would not trade those years with her for anything in the world. What a dog!!

    I once had a pedigree Cairn. His name was Maxwell. He was my best buddy in spite of his character flaws. On the contrary, he did not like or trust young children, was indifferent towards women, and he hated anything on two wheels. He feared and hated getting bathed, getting wet. He was truly a man's dog, and fearless. I did not make him that way. That's the way he was. Cairns prefer to be outdoors. They are slightly on the wild side compared other breeds. They are natural rat hunters and killers. That's why ranchers and farmers like to have them around.

    Cairns can vary wildly in size our male was quite large and weighed 19lbs and he was NOT overweight.

    • @RushfanUK
      @RushfanUK 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, I was going to make this point that info on height, weight and feeding should not be taken as facts as Cairns can vary widely across the breed, my last boy would weigh between 9.5kg to 10kg and was never overweight, you have to be careful with some vets as they get too wired in to breed standards rather than the actuality of the dogs real condition.

      the pale doggy is a cairn, she's on instagram, I wonder if she & her human know she's in this video.
      also cairns can be light-beige to brown-black, but they are closely related to the westie (who is always white)

    Hello there, I must correct a couple of things. Cairns almost never bark, contrary to other terriers, and males, mine for instqnce, make more like 12kg, 26 pounds! And he has no fat, at all.

    These are not all Cairns. There is a one-eyed Westie featured. These dogs are often not good with very small children, and can definitely be lap dogs. Both of my Westies shed profusely. There is a lot of oft-repeated misinformation here. However Cairns are adorable.

    • @massimotrento3498
      @massimotrento3498 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @Justin Bradburn That is not at all true, a Westie was bred from Cairns although there are also blonde Cairns.

      @Justin Bradburn Actually, Westies were first bred when a fox hunter shot his red-furred Cairn and he began to breed for white fur, creating a new breed

      she is actually a cairn and she's popular on instagram, she's a light beige colour, and in some lighting she looks almost white
      my terrier is pale beige-grey, she was much much darker as a pup, but by 18 months her pale adult colouring had set in. In many photos she looks white

      That’s actually really interesting.... my Carin that we adopted from a shelter also is missing one eye. From a tussle with a bigger dog.
      Maybe it’s a common trait that this breed will find themselves in situations were their eyes are in danger! Lol he will still try to play with big dog and get in their faces... evens the ones who DON’T want to play.
