We didnt realise until the end of her life that our wonderful late sister loved this song and had it at her funeral. What a lovely song. Means so much to us who are left behind xxx
Brilliant!. One of my all time favourite songs. The guitar is awesome. I have original on vinyl and mp3. The guitar piece is pure magic. Lonnie Donegan is surely missed. Will be played at my funeral
As a child of the sixties & 70s I only associated Lonnie Donegan with silly songs and I have vivid memories and know all the words to his beautiful , soulful ballads BUT I DIDN'T KNOW HE WROTE THEM FOR OTHERS TO SING UNTIL I SAW HIS SON ON ' THE VOICE ' ..I CRIED LIKE A CHILD TO HEAR PETER DONEGAN SINGING WITH SIR TOM JONES .
extraordinary... Lonnie never really got the acclaim for such an outstanding voice. Shows up on his ballads. And I think it must be Denny Wright on guitar. Love to know who the vocal backings are...
Dear Paul ! Many thanks for this nice upload. If I am not mistake, the Lonnie's guitar is a Martin 00028 Guitar; I purchase the same model in 1974 but it's only in the 80's I discover (during Chris Barber's Jubilee concerts) that "one" (of my 14 guitars) is exactly the same model as Lonnie's guitar. The lead electric part is great; on bass, Mickey Ashman ? Best wishes from France. Jo Luttringer (for my close friend Chris Barber : "le petit detective" Chris gives me this nickname...)
+TheChristina1904 US folk group The Tarriers first released it in 1960. Many others: The Brothers Four, The Cherokees, The Mojos... lots more. But yeah, I love Lonnie's. Had it on a 45 when it came out, flipside of Have A Drink on Me.
Em - did you perhaps think to look on YT resp. googling a bit before asking around....? May have saved some time - yours and others'... PS: Yes - Donnegan does a splendid version indeed.
WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS ? WHAT'S HAPPENED TO THE PROPER TUNE ? the song I remember was a kind of 4/4 rhythm, and more folkie.. I might be 71 but sure my memory hasn't deteriorated that much.
My husband was a big fan of Lonnie and we played this at his funeral and my son leaves 7 daffodils at the crems garden of remembrance. Beautiful song.

My dad used to sing this song to my mom. It is one of the few memories I have of him because he died in Saigon. It's our song now
What can I say..my hero.. what a singer, showman, musician, stand up comedian, and a loving Dad.
RIP dear friend your music will live forever
Indee, he was a genius. As for the loving dad I don't know - I got the impression he was a man for the ladies... But so what. He is missed.

How many artists recorded seven daffodils
Has anyone ever heard any other person singing this?
Lonnie will always be my favorite but I just wondered.

There's a great version by The Limeliters, on their "Tonight: In Person" album.
The Cherokees in 1964
