Canberra in Hyperlapse

Back in April while I was in Canberra on business I set about shooting my first hyperlapse.
With only a few exceptions* I shot everything in a week between the 6th and the 14th of April. This was a period of seasonal change; It wasn't the nicest weather the capital has to offer, but it's what I had to work with.
I shot some 40 sequences and over 7872 frames. This is the end result.

I have lived all along the coast, now 7 years in Canberra. I look for entertainment and l can find it. Love the very low traffic most times. Lots of flowers now, kangeroos in local park in Latham. No snakes as yet. Pleasant lake walks. Lots of recycling goods. Cheap cars. Lovely summers. Clean streets. All the city crimes but far less. I,d recommend it to ex Sydney people as it,s part country part city.
Canberra definitely has its perks. 🙂
This is excellent. An amazing ad for Canberra.
Thanks Jennifer! ☺️
I was NOT expecting the music that came on. XD awesome work!
SnowiDragon Haha... thanks! ^_^

Thank you! 😇 Bits of this have been used by various parties from time to time and I've got a ton of stock and out-takes from this that are available for license too. 🙂
I lived in Canberra for 20 years, many thanks for the memories.
My pleasure, dude! ☺️
I dance to this song in Mooseheads !
OMG! me too!
What a great video. Thanks.
İ miss this city
A very nice video.
Ah, back when the property market was relatively sane! Great stuff btw :)
Thanks Fahim! I dunno, I couldn’t afford property then either! 😜
this is my town!!!!!
Phenomenal. Fantastic.
This is incredible and even moreso as you did this in 2014! Well done!
Thanks Steven. :)
This is so clean! Love it!
Thanks dude. :)
Really nice video!
This is amazing!
Awesome.... Spectacular work...
Thank's Arun! ^_^
It's just so damn good! I keep watching it over and over. The way you time your shots with the music, slowly ramping up from a normal timelapse to a full-blown hyperlapse as the sound grows. The switch from day to night at the Carillon as the beat drops -- then back to day again when the music transitions. It all just fits together so well!
Danielle Hunt Thanks Danielle! Historically I've been a musician first, photographer/videographer second so bringing both elements together was of great importance to me. :-) Thanks for your praise!
Your musical background shows!
^_^
Brilliant composition, and excellent music choice too :D
Thanks Jess! =)
I can see you put a truck load of work into this, love it.
Thanks Eric, really appreciate it! 🙂
Fantastic work Josh! Absolutely brilliant. Wish I knew how to make stuff like this.
Thanks Dude! ^_^

Stellar work Josh, you should be rightly chuffed.

Jesus Christ, Josh. This is incredible.
Thanks dude! Was hoping to 1-up myself this January but the weather's not really in my favour on this trip... maybe later in the year! ;-)

canberra's fkn mad aye.
Really nice. the one on 1.40 at the parliament house ise awesome!
Thanks dude! Would you believe that one is actually the very first hyperlapse sequence I shot and the 'proof of concept' I used to motivate me to make the video? :-)
세종시랑 비슷하네요. 잘보고갑니다~
This is sick
Great song choice ;)
Thanks man! ;-)
i like it
Josh Mcbride Thanks Josh! ^_^

Stay tuned! ;-)

Parluminati House Confirmed !!!
that's gud...
You just made Canberra less boring now
Lowina Blackman Hey! Don't judge until you've visited! ;-P
Wow...just wow, how the hell did you do those tracking shots over all those hours? Looks amazing!
With a great deal of patience and focus. ;-) Thanks!
Awesome work man! Such an unreal clip! How did you shoot it?
Thanks Lachie! Lots and lots and lots of time, effort and patience! I shake my head now when I look back on this! I only have a basic DSLR and an awful (and dying) cheap tripod without even having the convenience of a ball head! It's amazing what you can achieve with enough passion and enthusiasm for your end goals! ❤️
This is amazing dude. What are you up to these days?
+filbones Still shooting dude, usually too busy running between one project and next to put together another proper reel like this, but I trickle bits and pieces out onto the landscape. Follow me on instagram.com/joshchaffey or check out my profile on Nimia bit.ly/1LalMWa :-)
Part of the music is the intro to local nine news.
It’s Pendulum’s remix of the ABC News theme music, originally penned by Peter Wall and Tony Ansell. It was in use from 1986 to 2005. 😉
@@joshchaffey wow that’s so dope. Brings back a lot of nostalgia for me. Thanks and great work. ✌🏼
Wow , great work , im using a drone platform to do simular , using a go pro , trouble is i can only get it down to 30 seconds , how did u get the paning shots ?
Hey Joe! Not sure what you mean by only getting it down to 30 seconds...(?)
With respect to panning, 'keyframing' is your best friend! Just search for a keyframing tutorial here on TH-cam! :-)
Josh Chaffey
what i meant was that the go pro will only go as low as taking a pic every 30 seconds, i think yours does better then that , hence your brilliant quality .... and panning , are you using a dolly ?
Oh, I see... so you don't believe you can take a photo any more frequently than once every 30 seconds? Which model GoPro do you have?
I shot that video using nothing but a Canon 650D and a run-of-the-mill tripod. No dolly.
Josh Chaffey
actually , i got it wrong , feeling a little silly here now , i have the silver plus go pro , and yes you can get the timer down to 1 second ..... i have much to learn , anyway , love what you have done
No worries Joey. ;-) Just keep experimenting and having fun!
I live in Canberra
wow!
:D
Still think this awesome!!!!
Thanks Henry... 🥰 One day I’ll get around to topping it with something. 😅
Luke Marriott would love to see this
only here for the music :)
That's just as good an excuse as any! 😜
Hey where’s the Arboretum???
SSE of Black Mountain. 😛
Nah, you have to remember I shot this nearly 8 years ago. The arboretum wasn’t nearly as developed or impressive then as it is now. 🙂
Why would they have built a capital in the middle of nowhere. No I don't want Wikipedia answers. I want thinkers.
The horrid music ruins this... everything about the original is torn away in the remix.
