Summary best case scenarios 8GB for new to Mac or Casual users. 16 GB for coding, content creators, and 32 GB if you code for a living and movie/music industry types
I have a laptop with 8gb of ram, and it can run vs studio, vs code, virtual machines, etc pretty good. Sometimes it does max out RAM and it is noticeable, but most times I do not use that much. This laptop has a decent processor, though, making a HUGE difference. If you buy a laptop with a little processor, you will suffer while trying to run software development programs. I will probably upgrade this laptop's RAM to 16 or maybe 32GB, but it depends on the cost. But TLDR a good processor makes or breaks the experience of using a pc.
Seems like all of the components work together in concert to make a good or poor performer. Perhaps the key is to avoid a single bottle neck to slow the other components down.
You can run another Windows OS if needed from external SSD. Yet as someone said if anyone needs several VMs at the same time to recreate home network, 32GB RAM and 2TB SSD is an excellent investment (I have PC laptop, not Mac) for several years to come.
My PC is almost 8 years old and is now very slow. I will buy a new one with a better processor. Is 8 gb ram good for using the excel for work? Should I buy 16 gb laptop?
"I'm looking to upgrade the RAM in my ASUS TUF Gaming A15 laptop from 8GB to either 16GB or 24GB. Should I add 8GB more for dual-channel mode, or upgrade directly to 24GB? I'm expecting a substantial boost in performance either way. I hope to hear your thoughts. Thank you in advance! ❤"
I see this video was uploaded 15 hours ago, so it's very recent. But you are talking about 8gb of RAM. The last time any of my computers had 8gb of RAM was over 10 years ago. Around the time Windows 7 was released. My current system has 32bg of RAM, a 500gb M.2 drive and a 1tb SSD drive (for data). A system running multiple programs, at the same time, needs RAM, lots of it. IF the RAM gets full then the system will use the page file/swap file, then a very fast drive helps a lot. My M.2 drive is about 5 times faster than the SSD.
Hey Professor, it’s William from your CST-250/CST-345 class. This is an interesting video, as I was recently forced into buying a laptop with soldered ram. At least it has 16gb, but my previous I had upgraded up to 64gb from sticks I had bought online. One consideration i’d be interested in hearing from you is whether memory speed is worth the upgrade, especially considering if you are on an AMD platform or Intel platform. I’ve done tons of upgrades and have a killer machine at home, but i’ve found for ddr4, 3200 seems to be just right, and that’s particularly true for AMD cpus. Is this a consideration for you when buying a new computer, or is memory speed too fast now to matter? Thanks.
Memory needs to match the speed of the system board and the chips must match each other. If the system bus is slow, the ram will slow down to match it. Correct?
can you also make a video explaining how apple can charge $200 for 8 gb of ram while it costs around 20 usd for the laptops you actually have control on. dont let apple to change your thoughts on ram. 8 gb is literally bare minimum lol
since u have 4GB RAM then ur PC must be having HDD, if your laptop/PC has disk drive then replace it with SSD and if it has 2 RAM slots then add more than too.
Open the case by taking out the screws. You will see inside the ram slots. You likely can replace them with newer modules with more capacity. You could spend $30 to do the upgrade. Like the previous comment says, if you have an old hard disk, replace that with an SSD. With a new disk and more memory, your computer will easily run 200% faster.
Buying a whole new computer, because of too little RAM? Man, that soldered-on-board-RAM really makes peoples minds go bonkers. YOU DONT BUY COMPUTERS WITH SOLDERED, NON UPGRADABLE RAM! Sorry for shouting. Soldered RAM is no feature, it is the biggest bug / flaw / misdesign you can have in a computer!
yup unless u r runing lots of VMS RAM is even more important than cpu let alone HDD low ram put everything on hold like tons of trucks in single line in TOLL checking in boarders... =_= oh and if you are VStudio user make sure u get SSD the faster the better, dont use HDD or u gonna go bald before your project finishes!
With 8gb ram, i had like 5gb idle most of the time, and thats not even doing any heavy tasks. 16gb is just the minimum these days
But still there are systems for sale with 8. Seems like they are setting people up for failure. Why does Apple sell 8 as the default Macbook air?

Seems like it is impossible to have too much ram.

I have a question about your SQL Database App playlist. How can I contact you?

8 gb is still for sale today. There are students in my classroom who struggle with low ram problems.
Your room acoustics sound nice

Apple charging $200 for 8 more Gigs of RAM is obscene!!! It's price gouging at its worst.
So dont buy an Apple laptop. Most laptops can physically update the rams easily.
Seems like a poor design on apple's part. It wasn't always this way.

My laptop has 4Gbhertz ram and my vscode terminal is very slow when I am running react native project. How I fix that sir
If you can, buy a more capable computer.
Just upgrade Ram if possible instead of buying a whole new computer

@@gradientO my pc has core I processor, I don't know if it will be upgradeable to 8Gb or higher size

Or you could just buy a laptop that has an easy way of upgrading ram.
Seems like Apple should take your advice.

I agree. Apple seems to like the pre-installed option

Excellent information!
