    Great to see Certina bring on these classics. The vintage ones from the 70s is built like a tank, there is no thin metal in these movements, it's thick pieces of metal so they will run forever if you service them.

    As a watch collector over 20 years, I started with the brand Certina and still love this brand. This model looks stunning! Maybe I buy it. Sadly the silver version are not on mesh bracelet. Black my color, but I have enough black in the collection.
    Thanks for showing us.

      When I started reading your comment I thought I was reading what I was thinking. (Crazy) now I have to do some research. I hope it is as tough as they claim because I am hard on everything. I have had 21 surgeries in the past 27 years. I always say I’m gonna take it easy ( until I heal ) then I find something to fix or work on because I’m not a tv guy. It’s in the shop or the motorcycle. Also I accidentally found a new favorite channel.

    Hiya Andrei.
    This is *by far* the *best* Certina review I've ever seen in video format. You show a real knowledge of and passion for the brand. And it's as infectious A.F. 😊
    Certina are coming a long way with these heritage re-releases. They're so strong in Northern Europe and and (I reckon this says a lot) Switzerland already but Hodinkee becoming the US AD for the brand as gonna see them grow in that and other markets...finally! I've heard Eric Wind mention them as 'a best kept secret in vintage watches' more than once and a heap of watchmakers routinely compare the Certina 25/6XX mov'ts to the famous Omega 5XX mov'ts in quality.
    So yeah, this DS-2 is an important release. It's the real deal and a true GADA sports watch suitable for...pretty much anything! And it looks great. All the stuff you've already said in your review.
    The enthusiast community just needs to embrace the brand.
    That vintage DS-2 is great by the way! I just bought a '64 DS manual with the same 25/611 mov't and flat turtle caseback. It's freshly serviced (+4spd & 292 amp). The silver dial is mint and the baton hands are great and still have the original orange tips. And the case is in really good shape. Those subtle Bombay lugs are *so* cool! I love it. It's a 60 yr old "civilian" version (i.e. manually wound) of a genuine expedition watch (see the Dhaulagiri Expedition) in *Incredible* condition - and it cost next to nothing! Waaay less than $1K! Almost too good to be true! 🤷🏻
    I'm going to pick up the DS-2 re-issue next and then probably a vintage Argonaut 280! I'm all in on Certina!
    Such great watches. Such a great brand.
    Hey btw, your uploads haven’t been appearing in my feed?
    I'd been waiting for your take on the DS-2!, and I find out you did it 3 months ago! 😂
    Anyway, I'm caught up now.
    Cheers Andrei.

    Ah yes you did a nice introduction with the history part, well done! I'm sitting at home right now waiting for the retailer store to open, I got notification that I can pick up my order: the blue dial DS-2. I have to say I'm rarely this exited for a new watch but this is a bit a dream come true. I hoped for years they would re-issue this model. Great review. great warch!

    Although it looks great under macro I'd also have preferred a no-date version and I like the 68's caseback better. All in all it really is an attractive watch. Great review, I appreciate showing both versions for comparison.

    • @BraveBeaters
      @BraveBeaters  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you Andrei. Indeed, I would also prefer a no date with the turtle on the caseback :)

    • @anthonysmith2982
      @anthonysmith2982 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Certina would use the “flat” caseback with the Turtle (like the '68 DS-2) for manually wound pieces and the fuller "embossed" caseback with the Turtle (like the DS PH200-M re-issue) on its automatic watches.
      Shame they broke that tradition with the DS-2 re-issue.
      I get why the date is there; it's going to be a daily for most non-watch guys and a date is good on a daily. Vintage DS-2's did come with a date or even day-date as well as no date. But I'm with you guys: no date is better. Better still? There's a relatively rare vintage dial with arabics at the 4 cardinal points. I'd like to see them re-issue that for us enthusiasts.

    @squinkygordon1322 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great review, thanks! Your channel is one of my favorites. I've watched this particular video a few times now.
    The Certina website states that the black dial version on mesh bracelet has a lacquered dial, which would be my choice. The other models (including the matte black version on strap) do not feature it. It must be a pricier way to manufacture a dial...
    I love also that Certina didn't go "on the cheap" and gave the exhibition caseback a Sapphire Crystal, as well. Many other brands would have used a mineral crystal display back to cut costs. Plus, it has 200m water resistance and a screwdown crown...
    What an absolute home run for Certina and a worthy successor to carry the mantle of the original one.
    I can't think of a better value for an all around, do anything, EDC watch.
    (I would definitely purchase this before I would buy a Seiko Alpinist).
    I'll bet this would be really sharp on a Bond Nato strap!

      I really like this model but i think that it would look better if they scaled down the font of the certina wording

      for some reason, I always forget to add the prices in the watches briefs. This is around: $960 according to my math :D

    the watch is very nice... to bad they did not add a splash of red on that second dial.... it would have made a big difference. Longines added the minutes dial in red on the new ultra-chron - it looks outstanding...

      Salut! Indeed, however they did a red dial version :D and something cool is coming up very soon :D

    Does the new Certina DS-2 still have the same o-ring shock system inside it to protect the movement?

  • @robkeeling7001

    Personally I believe certina watches being so well made many other brands around several times more expensive are just over priced. I own the quartz ds trust square model though I must say the ds 2 is really nice.

    The DS-2 somehow manages to combine elegance and toughness but how does it wear on a 6.5 inch wrist?

    The lug to lug is 38 or 46? In the video you say 46 but in their website they say 38. Am I missing something?

    I would like a model of this Certina watch for everyone. One no date version, one date version, one day-date version and, wait for it!, one hand wind version. God bless you all!

    In the dark, if you have no difference between lum at 12 and others, you often have an erroneous reading of the time. That's why I bought an Alpinist SPB243, clearer at night.

    It's a great watch for sure, but a "field watch"?? Cue debate, but I suggest the dial treatment puts this more on the sports/dress spectrum than the field/military. As you say, it's an ideal daily beater.
