Thank you for posting this video! Yesterday, I was Seriously considering buying one of the "DR" string trimmers, and you have changed my mind on that. I have been using my "hand held" "Black & Decker "Grass Hog" string trimmer for the past few years on my 'somewhat flat' and slightly rocky (small rocks) 1/2 acre of open ground near my home (there are 1.7 Acres total on my parcel of land) here in the foothills of The Sierra Nevada foothills. At 74 years of age, my back no longer appreciates my efforts to clear the weeds with the "Grass Hog". I will say that the Grass Hog" has held up to the task in an admirable manner. From what you have said, it sounds like a commercial hand-held string trimmer will be a much better choice for me. May God continue to Bless you and your loved ones!
Damn the luck. I've had my DR for about 12 years and never had a problem. It still has the original Belt. I've had to adjust the belt a few times but it tells you when ti needs adjusted. When the belt squeals while being engaged it needs adjusted. I've never used it in rough terrain, it's not designed for that. You can tell by looking at it. I use it Spring, Summer, and fall. It's always cleaned before putting it away. After watching your video I agree with you. You need a hand trimmer.
I bought one of these from the local tractor supply store. Worked awesome, was super light, and the blue cord lasts ages. Had to return it though because it kept throwing off the belt. Need to redesign that part of this thing and it would be the best.
I saw this review the same day that I bought one, and.considered returning it. I’m glad I didn’t! It eats through tough, 6 foot tall grass. No problem with the belt, cord is easy to install.
The belt on yours was definitely to big or you never adjusted the belt tesion because I have the same exact DR trimmer and I can rip threw 2 or 3 inch thick brush and small trees. Mine absolutely tears threw everything I through at it. Awesome trimmer.
I'm happy with my dr trimmer it goes through a lot of work it will outlast hand held trimmers when Maintained one of my neighbors has a Dr 10+ years old just basic wear and has original engine and he used it all the time mine has been reliable The dr is a good machine in my opinion just take good care of it and study the machine you'll be happy for years to come a lot of people like em around where I live that's just from me experience
I like this machine I have had it for 2 years and no issues at all. It is alot easier for.me rather than the ones you hold no.matter.what type strap you buy. Like a lawn mower over uneven terrain easy to put string on. For me
Of course they say the oil lasts the life of the engine, if you never change it the engine blows up before the oil can "go bad" Is it even possible to change the oil on those?
@@douglaslawncare2843 Yes, we ditched a basic, older self propelled push mower and used trimmer. It’s a terrible amount of work. The profit is there but the body abuse from the slopes is significant.
You should just delete your review. You're a commercial guy and you're complaining that a residential weedwacker doesn't operate as well. I love my Premier. I pair it with the Oregon 0.170 filaments and it just tears through weeds and small Thorn brush. It's easy to start and lightweight. Changing the filament is no more difficult than changing it on a regular weed wacker. This walk behind string trimmer has allowed me to take back some overgrowth from all the rain we had last year, and in a surprisingly short amount of time. I did notice that the engine wanted to stall during heavy use. But I found out why. The air filter was Caked Up with small debris so I cleaned it and re-oiled the outer sponge and we're good to go again. The one thing that I would recommend with the heavier string filament is hearing protection. The Oregon 0.170 is much louder than the sample that came with the Premiere(0.150). If you want to address a Dr product that is not as good as commercial accessories we would need to talk about the Duro Blades the are offered as a enhancement for the DR Trimmer. For 50 bucks you get a different cutting head with an adapter plate and six pieces of plastic that flail about and do nothing except chip and break at the first sight of heavy vegetation. Their own website claims that these blades are supposed to be capable of chewing through "bramble". I tried to cut through broomweed and small thorn brush. In 10 minutes the flail blades were completely useless. Don't spend your money on the Duro blades.

Briggs and Stratton is one of the best small engines you can get! Yes Honda is a top of the line but Briggs will not let you down

The belt was too long on mine and was very poor quality. I'm 70 years old and no problem on very rough ground.
I worked on one and all it needs was carb cleaning and flushing fuel tank

Would it work? Sure. Would I recommend it? No. Spend half that on a commercial trimmer. It will be more versatile and faster. Just my opinion.
