  • Robert Maryks, a visiting scholar at the Jesuit Institute at Boston College, gave a public lecture at Holy Cross on March 13, 2014 on the Jesuit suppression. Holy Cross joined Jesuit institutions around the globe in marking the 200th anniversary of the restoration of the Society of Jesus. This lecture breaks down the immediate and long-run causes for the 18th-century suppression. Maryks focuses specifically on the suppression in Portugal and how the Lisbon earthquake of 1755 contributed to Jesuits' exile.
Maryks is editor-in-chief of the Journal of Jesuit Studies and of Brill’s Series of Jesuit Studies, and he is co-editor with Jonathan Wright of "Jesuit Survival and Restoration."

The role of merchant conglomerates like fuggers ,lombard merchants and east india compqnies etc in movement of power should also be studied in conjunction with the study of jesuit...for it was the venetian merchant families like contarini and collona that initiated the licence of the company of jesus
