  • In this episode, the interior of the S10 gets stripped so that the heater core can be removed. What a serious pain!! Lots of work just to access the heater core!

    So when i was young with my first truck 95 gmc 1500, I took the dash completely out and all the trim to paint it.
    Now I drive a 95 s10, just bought 3 cans of black paint bc I wanna do this again, specially since I have tint now the black interior will make the tint darker, already got the headliner black and the seats, idk what imma do for the carpet but that’s not big of a deal. But yea I’m just commenting to help ur video, gonna help me pull this out, idk bout today tho bc I’m hungover smh. Last time drinking that’s for sure

    i have a RHD Version of the Suburban (Holden Suburban Australia) This dashboard is literally a mirror image of this setup right down to the heater core. I lowered steering column and tilted the dash. That gave me enough room to get to the Heater core. Just swap the pipes on the LHD Heater core and you are good to go! (that's the plan)

    I hope you have something else to drive. Just in case you can't get it all back together within a few days. My ex father in law decided to fix his heater core in his 87 jeep Cherokee one time. Took him about 2 weeks to still not get it fixed. I tried to help him,but I didn't know what to do. I'm not the one who took it apart. I would have took pictures and I'd have probably bought the repair manual too.. If you're replacing the heater Core in one of these S-10's or Blazers I'd change the blend door actuator too,those are notorious for going bad. On 96 & 97 you're sposta pull the dash to replace it. I know a faster way,but it involves cutting the glove box. And if you have big hands,forget it.If it blows hot or cold air all the time,or the A/C works,but blows lukewarm air all the time. It's probably the blend door actuator or the vacuum switch behind the dials on the dash. There's also a round gold colored ballast resistor behind the dials next to the vacuum switch plug. You can test that with a voltmeter. It should start with low voltage,almost zero voltage turn the dial up and the voltage should go all the way up to battery voltage,about 12 volts +. Hopefully that helps somebody because pulling these dashboards are a B. Sometimes,probably most of the time it costs more to fix,than the truck is even worth,if you take it to a shop. If you don't really GAF about the heater working. You can always take the big 3/4 in heater hose and run it back into the water pump where the other heater hose goes. Use 2 clamps because that hose is smaller it's 5/8. You won't have heat,but at least you'll be able to drive it. Sometimes the blend door itself breaks. Its inside the A/C dryer box connected to the firewall. There's an access panel on top. Take it off to see if the door itself is broken. Its down and to the left. Turn the heat on and off turn the A/C on/off see if it moves. If it doesn't,it's probably the blend door actuator. Probably... maybe a rodent nest is blocking it? I've seen that happen too. Peace out and good luck.

    • @MartyUlrich
      @MartyUlrich  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the advice, but it all came back together just fine, worked for a while until the chick who owned the truck rolled it off a cliff... it was still driveable after that, but she sold it to a dude that took it to a demo-derby... sad

    • @rolandoperez8445
      @rolandoperez8445 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow so I was assuming correct. I have a 97 Chevy S-10 pickup I believe my actuator isn’t working for the vents/modes. It’s suck on window defrost and feet and blows warm and coolish air, a/c doesn’t work.

The orange antifreeze from Preston is the only one I would use in a GM vehicle. Entire body came off the frame so the frame got stripped down and repainted as well as the bottom side of the cab and bed. Brown rust spots from the coolent shows up big time on a Frost White truck.

    I came across this video, and all that work of removing the seats and the whole dash isn't really necessary, heater core can be replaced with just pivoting the dash at the bottom of itself after removing the top screws and steering column nuts, and undoing the main harness just to the left of the steering column.

    • @MartyUlrich
      @MartyUlrich  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      OH it was certainly necessary in this case. I have yet to post other videos, but the floor was nasty and saturated with dexcool... it all had to come out, be thoroughly cleaned, new carpet installed, and everything else put back. I never rush dash jobs - I figured might as well address everything else that's an issue... And also for someone who has never done a heater core before, it would be very difficult to do it with only the dash pivoting. It's hard enough to find all the screws that need removed as it is. I could see doing it your way if you've done it a few times and know fairly well the procedure and nothing else needed to be addressed. I spent two months essentially rebuilding this truck - the heater core was just one part.

      No, turns out it was perfectly fine - it was leaking at the hose connections... of course I had to get this far to learn that... that's why when I do these kind of things to just address everything along the way.
