Also, Denny always been truthful about NASCAR and calls it how he sees it. Meanwhile Chase hasn’t said shit his whole career and just wants to get that check deposited and dip lol.
And Chase is way overrated, mainly because of his last name. If he was in Larson's first Cup ride, I doubt he would still be in Cup today.
That’s part of the reason people like Chase. He keeps his mouth shut. Michael Jordan never talked much, neither did Tiger Woods. People love them. I’m not really a Chase fan, but people always want to know more about people who keep to themselves.

His run-ins with popular drivers definitely don't help. Spinning Elliott from the lead at Martinsville, confronting Bowman during his burnout at Martinsville in 2021, and the multiple incidents he's had with Larson in the past year or two. People just love to hate Hamlin right now. He's what Kyle Busch was pre-RCR.

Denny is one of the most important drivers in the sport. He is the one guy who actually stands up against nascars bullshit. He’s become one of my favorite drivers in recent years. The only guy who can make me hate Hamlin is Blaney because he’s my #1 guy.

I used to hate him, and he's still not my favorite driver. However he is my girls favorite driver. And he stopped and took a picture with them after qualifying at the Chicago Street Course and was very friendly. So respect 1000%
I'd ask myself, "Where did I go wrong as a parent?" I know having a child liking Scamlin is nowhere near as bad as getting zee/zir pronouns or becoming trans. But if I had a kid who wanted to become an M-22 Rockcrusher, I might have to rethink hating the trans-movement. But seriously, maybe your girl is getting back at you for something you didn't know you did. When I was a kid, riding in a friend's Ford or drinking a Coke was criminal enough to get you grounded for a week.

But I’ve seen what these dorks say about bubba and it’s gross. While also supporting a guy who actively used the “n” word. Now I didn’t care either way about Denny but the fact so many people hate him makes me like him. Same reason I like logano Busch Stewart basically everyone the brain Ritter fan base hates. I'm not a Denny fan by any means, but people don't realise how important a driver like Denny is for the sport. I say that because in a sport where most of the athletes don't express their personality he's not afraid to speak his mind.
Denny just. His altercations with Hendrick is a main reason. 2017 (Elliott) 2021 (Bowman) 2023-24 (Larson) it’s just fuel to the fire on why people hate Denny.
It's really just the Chase thing. Chase has some fans that get butt-hurt really easily. Case in point, they all flipped at Auto Club after Larson blocked Chase, and those same people still don't like Larson. It doens't help that Larson took over the #1 spot at Hendrick.

the obnoxious rhetoric from those fans in past decades-- whether it be in small numbers like keyboard warriors in 2003 when kenseth obliterated everyone, or large numbers like in 2010 when jimmie won 5-straight-- infiltrated nascar so much that it feels like nascar felt like they tried too hard to listen to people specifically. they've done it in recent years but that's in a different fashion because it's been productive (austin dillon penalty & bringing back north wilkesboro, to name a couple), but what went down in the 2000s & 2010s was nothing more than a kneejerk dose of desperation. i think nascar and its fans should think long & hard about that era because it was very influential into producing a lot of *even more* stupid crap like the playoff format we have today.
parity & unpredictability is really nice, and happens more in nascar naturally than other motorsports, but don't bait yourselves into doing whatever it takes to fix the issue. parity isn't a big problem in nascar these days, and probably will be improved upon more once the next-gen car is fixed.
there are ways for people to solve big problems like them but not go at them at once in a repulsive manner, and those who run and/or support nascar have to realize that if diligent change is be achieved

There is exactly one reason I don't like Hamlin. It's the same reason I'm not a Logano fan. He complains about drivers doing the exact same things he does. Hamlin makes a lot of good points and offers a lot of great insight into how to improve the sport, but I feel like it's hard to take him seriously because his on-track behavior doesn't command respect. He's not like Mark Martin who everyone respected because he respected them. He [and Logano] will dump someone for a win and say, "We did what we had to do." then act like a martyr and disrespect other drivers for doing it to him. It really just comes across as childish and smells like main character syndrome.

I feel like the hatred for Denny really started at that 2017 Martinsville race. That was the turning point, and I think it’s fair to say it was the turning point for both drivers.

DH is my favorite driver. Literally for 1 main reason, funny fedex commercials from when he started out. I was 20 back in 2006 and it got me. I saw his talent blossom on superspeedways, I saw him win in pocono as that was my local track. Love the attitude, he's not always right but nobody always is. Him racing in the retirement home, racing his lawnmower, fedex wrote in his personality, and it translated to what we want to see in a nascar driver.
Because Denny is one of the few drivers in today’s era that has a personality, came from an era where respect had to be shown in order to get respect(being 2006), he’s easily a top 5-10 driver of the millennium, and today’s generation of fans hate people that are outspoken (AKA Hamlin, Kyle Busch, Bubba Wallace, and a retired Kevin Harvick). Instead people like drivers that is more boring than a blank sheet of paper(Elliott,Bowman,Blaney).

I'm personally not Hamlin fan on track at all, but I love his podcast, he keeps it real on any topic about the sport, and he has very similar ambitions as fans do on where he thinks the sport should go, I respect him in that regard, but as a diehard Larson fan it's not hard to wonder why I'm not a hamlin fan on track
Denny is the villain for JGR right now. That's probably why people hate him. Kyle, when he was racing for JGR, was the villain and everyone hated. Now with RCR he kinda lost that status. It's just a theory and personally we need hero vs. villain. That's what creates the drama this sport thrives on.

Denny says a lot of what he says because he's the only driver that can. He's been around for 2 decades. FedEx and JGR won't stop backing him. He won't lose his ride, he won't get canceled. He owns a competitive team, so he represents the teams AND drivers. Every driver in the field has similar opinions most likely, but they don't have the national presence and foothold to be open about them, without risk of sponsors distancing themselves and losing chances at rides. Other drivers have to tow the line and say the thing that makes NASCAR happy in order to stick around and further their career
There's 2 sides to Denny Hamlin- The on track one who's taken the crown of the biggest hothead from Busch and can't keep his cool to save his life, and the off track one who's not afraid to call Nascar our on their charades and is one of the smartest people in the sport in that regard. For the latter I respect the hell out of him, but given how much crap he stirs when he's in a car I cannot bring myself to actually support the guy

I grew up a Jeff Gordon fan. Once he retired, I really haven't had a driver. I've only been a Hendrick guy.
With the Hendrick guys, I've found myself liking Larson and Byron more out of the 4. Maybe there's bias for Byron because he's in the 24. I never thought I'd be a fan of Denny Hamlin, but IRONICALLY, I've found myself becoming a fan of his recently. Maybe it's because of his podcast that I've been listening to for a while. It's strange liking Hendrick and Hamlin, given his run-ins with the entire Hendrick team.
Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson are loveable drivers. Dale Earnhardt and Kyle Busch are hated drivers.

It's funny, because Denny Hamlin and Brad Keselowski have had like a complete role reversal in the last 4-5 years. Denny is kinda what Brad was in the mid 2010s, pretty despised by many fans, and now Brad has become the driver that fans kinda like now that see a lot of truths he talked about the racing and early era Gen 6 car, and gained a lot of respect from fans and now is kinda rooted for in many scenarios.
Brad was only despised by Gordon and Busch fans which isn't really the majority.
Denny is one of those drivers who I went from liking, to not caring about. I don’t hate him, he’s just not not my favorite driver. I do like that he’s not scared to call nascar out on their BS.

Also, I never really got the Hamlin hate aside from him occasionally knocking people out of the way and not being ok with having it happen to him. He’s a really good driver and has a personality, which apparently a lot of NASCAR fans (looking at a lot of Hendrick fans with this) don’t like.
Hamlin has grown on me a lot the past few years. Especially since my favorite driver now drives for him. My dad doesn't like him but he's a Truex fan. I wonder if his opinion will change when Truex (likely) races for Hamlin next year lmao. I think a lot of it stems from 2017

It’s the fact that he has ruffled feathers of Hendrick drivers. You mess with a popular driver, you’re public enemy number 1. But he’s extremely important to the sport. Obviously a great driver and now owner, but beyond that, there’s nobody else consistently calling nascar on their bullshit. I feel like Denny is a huge hypocrite when it comes to on track incidents. He has a lot of good things to say on his podcast, but in his own words he thinks hes “passive” when it comes to on track etiquette. Very much an opinion not grounded in reality. He wants to be the good guy, while also being an ass on track when it’s convenient to him. Never heard him once hold himself accountable.

You forgot to mention that he says the right stuff but he doesn't do those things on the track. When he's talking about overly aggressive young drivers. He's at fault for that as well as the other drivers over the years who are overly aggressive because kids ses it and think. "Denny Hamlin drives this way so why cant I." Plus how NASCAR themselves and how he himself cover him. Every yeat its apparently his year. The reason why a lot of people don't like The cowboys and Arsenal is because no matter the year its always the year.

In other sports there is a popular player because of their success. People like Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes, Lebron James, Micheal Jordan to name a few. Chase Elliott and Dale Jr is only popular because of their dad’s last name.
I don’t hate Denny, but you can’t say people hate him because he drives a Gibbs Toyota. Nobody hates MTJ, people didn’t hate Carl or Kenseth. It’s not because he didn’t win a championship, because Mark Martin is beloved and Edwards is well liked as well as many others. Dennys podcast has made him more likeable for sure. People just don’t like Denny because of the way he drives. He’s always gonna push people wide or try to loosen them up instead of passing clean when it’s possible. He just takes the easy way out, and that’s why people don’t like him. Every time people start to like him, he’ll pull some on-track weasel-like move and make everyone hate him again.
To reference All Gas No Brakes at talladega when asking a fan why everyone hates Kyle Busch, “it’s because the internet said so.” I tend to think that your average nascar fan doesn’t do much thinking for themselves. I believe this whole controversy with Austin Dillon very loudly is showing that they don’t understand how these cars drive, nor do they understand the politics behind nascar. I’m not a Denny fan, but he’s also far from my least favorite driver.

I'm only less than a minute into the video and I'm already happy to see you talk about this. There are true reasons to dislike him, but hate is a big word. I know you are a Gordon/Elliott fan but with that being said you are not fully biased and I find you are closer to being neutral.
A bit of a back story to start my opinion : I started watching Nascar in mid-2001 when I started learning and understanding the English language. From the get-go I was a fan of Mark Martin and Matt Kenseth. It then evolved into being a Roush fan and becoming a big fan of Carl Edwards.Carl went to JGR, so I followed him along with Kenseth. Then they both retired and I had postive feelings of Denny's style.
The pure fact that a lot of people associate every single Toyota team to being trash is insulting. Funny how so many people seemed to despise Kyle Busch, and as soon as he went to RCR he becomes the "good guy". Now I'm not saying Hamlin is a perfect driver and human being, he had his moments and incidents, but all the big names (the ones that often make the Playoffs) have some drama attached to them in some way or another. Hamlin has wrecked people, but it stays that many other people have done much worse things.
The fact that he speaks out the facts and what fans want, yet many of those fans hate him makes no sense. I was never a fan of Dale Jr nor hated him but I did feel he was overhyped. A few years ago when I started watching his podcast I realized I was pretty blind to the fact that Dale Jr deserves all the positive comments he gets based on who he is, the driving skill is unfortunate but it stays that he was not a terrible driver nor anything close to it.
Love it or hate it, Denny Hamlin and Dale Jr speak facts and what the fans want to hear.

Most recent example-Hamlin racing his team owner teammate for stage points at Michigan only to spin himself out. Bubba finished fifth I believe after the restart.

Denny the driver is different than Denny the owner and advocate for the sport, Denny the driver is often hypocritical and Denny the owner/advocate actually usually has good things to say
I have drivers I like more than others but I don’t have one single favorite. I love all of motor racing and like most drivers. Denny has been a great driver since he started whether you like him or not. I get why some hate him I disagree with a lot of things he has done but most drivers have done stupid things. Brad has won a championship and carries himself very well. after his first win this season Hamlin obviously insinuated that Keselowski ordered the 17 car to wreck out the leader so BK could get the win. so yeah I don't like that jealous little choke artist who thinks he's better than everyone else yet has nothing to show for it.
I became a nascar fan when o was young because the first 2 cars movies in 2015 I followed a season of nascar for the first time. I am now a Byron fan but still love the 3 I liked first

He has wrecked people's favorite driver, and Joe Gibbs is a hypocrite. But since Denny started with his podcast, I've started liking him more. He is damn good at what he does on track, and he has common sense about racing on his podcast.
11:09 as well, there's an account on Twitter that calculates modern Nascar into the Winston cup format, and Hamlin still hasn't won a championship with that format either.
I liked Denny at his beginning of his career. He's a winner and is a future Hall-of-Famer. His run-ins with drivers over the years has made him unlikable
I'm a fan of Denny and way more of a fan of his than any of the Hendrick drivers. My favorite group is 23XI. I'm also a Kyle Busch fan
I kinda always viewed Denny as a rejected babyface until 2022 when he got his lick back on Chastain. At THAT point, is when he turned heel in my eyes. But even then, he's still mostly justified. When you think about it, the last few years, he was actually done dirty so many times by his competitors, that I'm sure he decided that enough was enough and started punching back on the racetrack.
And as far as people saying that he's a hypocrite on the track: Guess what? Every driver is. 🤷🏿
I think the reason most people don't like joe Gibbs racing is because most of the drivers for him complain a lot

Harvick was right about what he said about Dale Jr in 2017. The sport can’t grow when 90 percent of the fans like 3 drivers. A name can only make you so popular until you have to show the talent to back it up. It also doesn’t help when your most popular driver goes 4 straight years without winning with one of the most accomplished teams in motorsports history.

2018 Denny Hamlin takes Kurt Busch out of the playoffs by pinching him in the wall at Phoenix. Kurt could have won that race and got to the championship round. Ended his season and his time with in the 41.
I grew up watching nascar then stopped watching when i got older and my motorsports interest changed but i never really hated him hell hes one of the drivers that deserves a championship bad
