They won't it's making me want to pick it up and research it in depth. Not everyone is that ignorant and simple minded that a thorough lecture would put them off from reading the Qur'an. We should be grateful for people challenging our concepts and understanding of the Qur'an. We need reading for analysis and interpretation not just for the sake of it.

Whenever you're down to learn something, you study it in depth rather than shelfing it. The deep studying of Quran can only be done by getting close to the Ahlul bayt. As Rasool SAW said " I'm leaving two precious things behind amongst you 1. Quran 2. Ahlul babyt".
Learning about Quran has depths you can read it’s translation (the first layer) you can read tafseer (second) tafseer of tafseer and then comes the one words cannot describe which is only for the very special ones. Different minds have different depths of understanding the Quran. Maybe start with a little general information about Islam and Quran then try to understand it. He is not complicating Quran instead he’s going into depths. Not something he made but something Allah created. He’s only telling it.
