Fallout 76 is a 2018 online action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is an installment in the Fallout series and a prequel to previous entries. - เกม
*2024 Update* Feel free to keep your monitor refresh rate set to your monitor's refresh rate that it is rated at. There was an update that allowed the higher fps to work better so 120, 240, or whatever hz you run at just cap your fps to the number that your monitor is rated for.
Thanks a lot! I was wondering if I could do that hehe.
It's kinda crazy that this stuff is still so janky that we have to go to the .ini files to fix it still. Bethesda jank at its finest.
Still, hopping back into the game, hope I can stick with it this time.
So, basically in the second step of this video, in nvidia control panel, you put the max frame rate the same as your monitor's refresh rate? So if I have a 144hz monitor, I put it at 144 instead of 72, is that correct?
That is correct set it to your monitors refresh rate 🤟☢️
Welcome back to the wasteland and the joys of pc gaming of having to do stuff like this. 🤟🏻☢️
I litteraly went from having 55 fps on the lowest possible settings to over 100 with every setting maxed out. I have no idea why or how this happened but I am eternally grateful for your help. Thank you
Glad that this could help you out bud 🤘
55fps is a dream for me
How is that even possible lmao?
Thanks alot helped me a ton, FPS are way better now on my i7-4790K and GTX 1070 Ti. I didnt change any other settings ingame. I have run the game on 2K with 144Hz
I miss my ol’4790k that thing is an absolute beast of a processor. I am glad this helped you. 🎉
Absolutely ridiculous we have to do this in the first place. Great video man, thank you!
I am used to it at this point in a lot of PC games. I swear sometimes in gaming on PC you have to be an IT technician to figure some stuff out. I am glad that this could help you out bud. 🤘
Thank you for the video I finally came back to 76 on PC after a couple years on console.
I would get constant 14fps in certain areas and now the same areas are 45-60 and make the game more enjoyable rather than frustrating trying to hit enemies at 14 fps.
I can’t thank you enough 🎉🎉🎉
Glad to help bud and welcome back to the wasteland on the PC side. Feel free to add me bud and see you out there 🤘
Dunno what that setting changed but it totally improved the fps, thank you
Glad that it helped you bud 🤘💙
Thank you so much for this, I have a fairly beefy rig and this sorted the issues out perfectly!
Glad to help out bud 🤘
can't believe it was this simple, thank you dude i went from low fps to buttery smooth
Glad this helped you out bud 🤘
Works a treat, went from around 40 fps to a solid 72, thanks man.
Glad to help bud 🤘
Just wanted to say this works for AMD as well without capping the frames. The one step you showed with changing it to 0 changed everything. Thank you for this video very helpful and informative!
Thankfully no matter if you are Nvidia, AMD, or Intel this will work. The only difference is how we limit frames. We do that because of how many frames get generated during the load screens and while looking at the map 🤘
Helped a lot man! Very cool seeing you help out literally everyone in the comments too
I am super glad that it helped you. I have worked in IT now for 19 years and really care about the community so I respond to everyone and try to help out as much as I can.
Yes man! Thanks a ton, this really worked for me. Quick, easy, and to the point! 👍
I am so glad this helped bud. I try to keep everything to the point as I know we all have so much going on. 🤘💙
Dude thank you. I went from 48 to 130 average. 3080ti with a 7800x3d and 32 gb of ram. Awesome awesome awesome video!!!
Glad to help bud 🤘 I was on a similar system when I made the video
This vid works! a friend of mine gifted me F76 after having to just play it via gamepass and were having a blast! Tysm for this
Glad this video helped you out bud 🤘
i only changed the interval to 0 and went from 30-35 fps to 100-120 fps lol, amazing that it still works, and why its done this way
I wish they would allow you to turn off v-sync in the game settings.
This was great! Thank you!!!
Glad that this was able to help you bud 🤘
Hey man, seriously THANK YOU. I went from a miserable 30fps (and very unstable) to 150-200fps and buttery smooth! I can finally play this game now. Thanks again!
Glad to have helped bud 🤘
still works, thank you sir!
Glad this worked for you and was able to help out bud.
I only changed my IpresentInterval and it made the game actually playable I was getting tons of stuttering on low settings now its running fine on ultra settings I did not have to cap my frames thx for the help!
You will want to cap the fps to at least what your monitor is because it will cause some really high fps in loading and when looking at the map which could put strain on the gpu. Glad to help bud 🤘
This helped a little still getting mad drops when I get to combat I can't seem to figure out why it only happens then
What setup are you running? Resizable bar can help a little in this game if you have Nvidia and are still getting drops. Also, depending on your settings and resolution that you are running. I can try to help as much as possible bud.
@@Fargassier hello Bud, im having problems on a 3080 ti ryzen 5900x 32mb ddr4 3600hz .. drops to 50s in places playing in 3440 x 1440p . cheers
@@HijakMC Have you tried taking it out of that resolution to see how the game plays? I know the game should support Ultrawide but you may need to change some of the ini files to make it better. I know in the recent updates there have been some issues with fps. I am on a 5950x, 3080, 64gb of ram and sometimes I will dip down to 40-50 in certain scenarios.
Absolutely amazing! Such a huge difference! Thank you so much!
Glad this was able to help you out bud 🤘
Thank you so much for this! I was enjoying fallout 76, but after this fix it really feels like playing the game as it was intended.
Glad to help 🤘
I wanted to start this game again after played it last on 14. April of 2020 exactly 4 years ago but i instantly got this weird "i have 80 fps but it still feels clunky effect". Did the first change and went on 100-120 fps, and it feels super smooth and not clunky anymore! My tech brain is not understanding how this isnt deactivated by default, and how a game with 80fps feel laggy but yeah... thank you so much!
Glad to help bud and it is crazy what our eyes get used to right 🤘 Trust me as a tech myself I really wish there were options to not have to go into the config to do this. 🤘
Thank you so much! It worked perfectly well. My game went from 35 fps to over 100fps, a completely different experience. Cheers from Brazil!
Glad to help bud 🤘
Thanks alot! :) was wondering why i was a bit on the low side, nice background music
So glad that this helped you out. If you ever want to play feel free to send me a friend request. I am on almost each night but def. play for about 6 or more hours on Saturday while streaming it. Thanks so much for the compliment on the music.
This helped so much! Runs so much smoother
Glad to help bud 🤘
Thanks you sooo much !!! u saved me !!! now i can play it well with my RTX 3060, it was working sooo laggy and now it runs very smooth !! thanks

i7 13700F, 32GB 5200mhz RAM, RTX 4070 @ 1440p with 144hz monitor, without this guide i was getting locked 72fps, with this guide i get 144fps (capping fps in the control panel to 144) but screen tearing without or without vsync so i went back to default.
UPDATE: weird after returning file to default and control panel to my previous settings, I now get 144fps and no tearing lol
Glad to hear that the screen tearing fixed itself and it worked for you 🤘
Guys... if you are on 144hz monitor, put the fucking frame cap to 144fps otherwise you are going to get some pacing issues. This game does not have issues with high frame rates. I've been playing this game for years with 144fps. Also, make sure to enable vsync in Nvidia Control Panel. You want vsync on due to the horrendous screen tearing in game. This all should of been explained in the video but you know, can't get a complete guide and we gotta refer to the comments...
While yes I run mine at my monitor cap limit of 165hz in the game and tell people there is no problem doing that but you will experience some issues on both sides. Telling people to limit to 72 for 144hz means I don't get the quality issue questions that would come from telling them the opposite. I don't get screen tearing issues in my game that I have noticed with the setting off. You don't have to curse in the comments and as someone who works in tech it is best sometimes best to keep the users from experiencing problems even though most won't have issues.
@@Fargassier Most people do not know that going over 60 fps does not cause engine issues as they would expect from the previous Fallout titles. And again you will have pacing issues with halved the framerate on a 144hz monitor, which you will have to set your monitor to a lower hz in display settings to compensate. All in all, I do not know of any issues in game that come from over 72 fps as you claim. I've been playing this game for years with 144fps. So do you have any specific mentions of these issues that happen with above 72 fps?
@@christodd5012 I like wise have been playing the game for years now at 165hz with no problem. Though at launch if I was to try and run the game over 60 or 72 I seemed to have issues with graphics and what I equated to at the time some physics/performance issues so I went with the method from older Fallout titles and locked it to 72 and had no more issues. Now this could've been launch time bugs from the older days but this is why I suggested people to limit their fps to 72 even though 9/10 people won't have an issue of going as high as their system will push the game to their monitors spec. I can only speculate on what fixed my issues years ago when I came back to the game.
@@Fargassier Ok so you are assuming that these old issues from a time where Fallout 76 was one of the buggiest games on the market. You've done no testing nor heard any reports of this being an issue recently and yet you tell people to limit the framerate as if you know it is still an issue. This is how misinformation is spread around. If you have no evidence of an issue occurring, do not tell people to try and avoid it. You know when the time is that you do tell people to avoid it and limit their frame rate? When people report it. That's when you make a follow up video stating "If you are having this issue, then follow said instructions to fix it". That is the whole point of these videos and why you failed in your video tutorial that is supposed to be informational.
@@christodd5012 If you listen in the video I say that I was still having issues but for awhile now I haven't had those issues. This video was done in July 2022 before a rather large update to the game that seemed to fix a lot of issues for players and high fps. If you google fps problems you will see many people still complaining in 2022 about those issues running at high fps so that is why I said to limit the fps like I said in the last comment. So yes I saw a problem, my limit fixed my issue, and I reported that this helped me and might help you as well. I don't see how that is misinformation and this video is still helpful to folks though as you can tell I have instructed people to not worry about the limit in recent comments.
in case you were wondering yes this still works and thank you for fast tutorial
Glad you found it helpful bud and I try to be straight to the point in my content 🤘
This is what tutorials should be like!! Straight to the point and HELPFUL!!

quick and straightforward loved it very helpful my bro
Glad to help bud 🤘
From 25 to 60-80 FPS. Cool vid, keep it up. 🤠
Glad to help bud 🤘
I knew about the ini file but not the nvidia stuff, that would explain the sudden crashing as Im overclocking my cpu and its trying to run frames higher then the game was ready for. This will be a great workaround!
Glad to help bud and you can put the limit to your frames to the monitor refresh rate now. Hopefully this makes your time in the wasteland fun 🤘
This has basically increased my max FPS, but the parts where my FPS drops still persist. Thanks!
are you useing sata or nvme
The frame drops can come from shadow distance or just the fact that sometimes when there is a lot going on in the world it will bug out just a little bit. In bigger towns like Watoga things tend to load in slightly so you might notice a bit of frame drop.
Straight to the point, and it worked wonderfully. Thank you very much.
Glad to help bud 🤘
actually insane how it fixed the stuttering mess it was before. Thanks!
Glad that this helped you out bud 🤘
❤ Or if you use Afterburner you can do the second step directly from RivaTuner. Thanks a lot mate!! I use the same trick on Fallout4 but had no idea it could be used on 76 to smoothen performance. Cheers!
You can def. do that but some users find it easier to limit straight from the nvidia control panel so I went with that. I used to use Afterburner a lot back in the day though.
Thanks a lot, I can’t believe that it’s running so well now, done doubting my laptop lol
Glad to help out bud 🤟🏻
12/26/2023 Updated info: Working for players who don't care about visual bugs (Textures in sky sometimes flicker black if you have Snow, Casino Fog in your C.A.M.P This really breaks immersion.
FPS did increase! PLEASE KEEP IN MIND but this isnt for me sadly I do have a 144hz monitor but my issue is Fallout is strictly changing inputs from 144hz to whatever it uses therefor my screen flip is longer than should be what is quite annoying lol.
If your monitor is 144 you can set the frame limit to 144 and have no problems but for some it can cause issues so that is why I said split it. I don't experience the flickering that you are talking about or any of those visual bugs. You should look into the mod video that I put up to use the 76 quick configuration mod to change some of the settings because they have a bunch of tweaks that you can do with that program for the game. th-cam.com/video/6NW03-iU75w/w-d-xo.html

@Fargassier Even though this video is kinda old at this point, I wanted to let you know that you absolutely helped me with it! I have a decently good computer (i7 12700KF, 32gb 1600mhz DDR4 RAM and a RTX4080) and even though I got great FPS (80-90) I was could see a slight stutter / vibration in the image quality while playing and it sometimes bothered my eyes. I found a different, but not very good guide and got the VSync part disabled which much improved my game; 180-200 FPS and smooth as butter! But! When I entered interior spaces my FPS would jump to 250+ and when it got to 280 or 300 I would get stuck and unable to move. The second half of your video (the NVidia Control Panel settings) is what really saved my bacon, so THANK YOU!
Glad to help bud and glad you got it working bud 🤘

Glad to help 🤘
Thank you for the very succinct, cut-to-the chase video! As a long-time FO76 player (been playing since it first came out), I should have made it myself, instead of posting replies to innumerable players asking about this. Just one quick thing: you don't have to reduce the max frame rate in the nVidia (or AMD) control panel down to 72 or 60. I've been running my max frame rate at 165Hz without any issues. You just can't let the frame rate get above, say, 200fps, or you'll get glitching/possible crashes.
I appreciate the kind words bud 🤘💙 I started playing during the beta as well but took a long break from the game. You should do some videos bud 🤘
works perfect for me, man. Thank you very much
Glad to help bud 🤘
still works perfectly, and an extremely effective tip, thank you 🤟
Glad to help bud 🤘
It is important to use driver control panel to limit the framerate to 190fps as of this comment. If you don't want to get stuck with power armor. Because I have tried it with indoor buildings with desktop RTX 3060 (which it can easily go to 300 depending on the view) and managed to get under 300fps, which that had caused my power armor to be stuck in place. It is important to wait until there's a patch that will allow your character to move around with power armor at higher framerates.
Getting stuck in the power armor is a bug that will happen whether it is at low or high framerates. I tell people just to stick to 72 if they are on a 144 because of the way the engine for Fallout is designed. For me I keep mine locked to the screen's refresh rate which is 165. Glad you found a solution that works for you though bud.
@@Fargassier I did not know that. But it appears for me that 190 was the limit.

Glad to help and I pinned a comment saying you can go with your monitor's refresh rate now because it was an issue back in the day but isn't an issue anymore. 🤘
Question about the NVIDIA part, do I have to set the frame cap on the global settings or can I just set that for FO76 itself?
As the pinned comment says you don't have to worry about making it 72 anymore you can go with what your monitor is set at. 🤘 You would set this up globally
I can tell just from the way my mouse moves 20x better on the home screen this 100% fixed it.
Glad to help bud and feel free to lock the fps to your monitor refresh as I mentioned in the pinned comment. 🤘
Dead on!! now a completely stable 72fps. Thank you so much man !!
Wondering, why not lock it to 144? Clearly my 3080 could take it but maybe it has something to do with something else tied to it ?
The reason to keep it at 72fps is just because the game can have some visual bugs happen randomly but I will say that I have tested my 3080 at 144 and haven't had any issues. I am glad this helped you out bud. Feel free to add me on the pc my in game name is the same as on here.
@@Fargassier using RTX3080 but it capped at 84 fps how can I make it to 165hz?

thx for the tutorial will try it later on my gamepass version of the game. That stutters like hell on a amd radeon 9 3900x and 64gb ram ddr4 3200mhz and a amd rx6700xt gpu. XD
never had in any game even the newest ones so less fps then in fallout 76 average of 15 fps and felt like minus 100 fps...
for those looking with amd gpu the amd radeon software adrenalin has settings for the games that can be applied where you can also set the framerate. you have to select the game then in the settings of the selected game you can then select the target fps for that specific game. i hope that helps.
Since you are doing it on the Gamepass version look for a folder called Project76 if you can't find the Fallout 76 cause of how it is named on the Gamepass side 🤘 Someone mentioned it in the comment section the other day.
@Fargassier it worked like a charm :3, but i didn't have to set a max framerate in the amd software. Just changing that one thing in the ini did the trick. Do you know by any chance where i can turn off motion blurr?
this works for amd cards too! for whatever reason though it kept crashing my game when i had it set to fullscreen. it works with borderless though
You might crash if you don't limit the FPS and worth a shot. Glad this helped and as the pinned comment says feel free to limit your fps to your monitor refresh rate 🤘
Hey I’m on a 6600 xt which is an amd card, do you by any chance know how I can achieve the same results? I’m able to hit upwards to 165 (my monitors cap) on high settings in interiors but once I go to outside areas I average 30-40
So what you are going to be looking for is Frame Rate Target Control since you are using an AMD card. You should be able to do all the steps with the ini file but look for the FRTC on your AMD software. Let me know if you have any more questions 🤘
@@Fargassier I appreciate you for all your help and fast response, I think it’s something with my cpu maybe and I understand if you wouldn’t be able to help with all that. It’s with this game and games like fortnite that for some reason run horribly but at the same time I can run cyberpunk so idk I think I should upgrade that
So one thing is to make sure your ram is running at least at 3200 for speed with games like this the ram has a big impact. What cpu and such do you have? I run a ryzen setup but a nvidia gpu.

Well that helped a lot thank you, but is there a fix for the god awful TAA? It's so blurry it hurts my eyes and gives me a headache. I know you can turn it off, but I'd rather some form of AA at least. Can you force it through Nvidia control panel?

@@Fargassier I decided not to limit it because I didn't see the point as long as things are running smoothly, unless I'm missing something?
This game chokes my CPU, especially in Atlantic City. All my cores goes to 100% for a second, then it's smooth again. Just randomly when running around. This has been a problem elsewhere in the past, but seems worse in expedition areas.

It does but as the pinned comment says you don't have to put it too 72 anymore 🤘 Limit it to your monitor refresh rate
omg its WORKING
no more pain
thank you
Glad that it is working for you bud. If you ever want to play feel free to add me. See you in the wasteland bud.
it very much still works and the 72 limit is perfect
Oh yeah this method should work for years and glad that it is working for you. If you ever want to play feel free to send me a friend request.
The game does run a lot smoother and with better FPS when doing this! But I get a bit of screentearing. Can I enable Nvidia V-sync for that or how do I get rid of it?
You can try the vsync in Nvidia but for me I don't get tearing a lot.
The ONE "supposed" fix EVER to actually work. My God. They screwed up the game so bad. THANK YOU, BUDDY! May you have a fucking wonderful Christmas.
Glad to help bud and feel free to add me on 76 🤘

Hi there! Would it be the same for the Xbox PC gamepass version ?
Look for a folder called Project76. I never knew until someone said it in the comments that it was called that for the Gamepass App on the PC 🤘
From 34 to 90 fps. Thank you!
Glad to help bud 🤘
Wonderfull tip! Thank you very much bro !
Glad this helped you out 🤘
What about turning on vSync through the Nvidia control panel? Does that even matter?
I usually leave vSync off and tune it myself with frame limit to my monitor at 144.
@@Fargassier okay I might have to turn it on. Getting some pretty noticeable screen tearing
Didn't expect it to work but it did thank you very much. I didn't have a fps counter but I can just feel that my fps is higher.
Glad this could help you out bud and see you out in the wasteland. Feel free to add me if you ever want to play.
