Paul accounts for 5 of those PS5 sales just by himself.
He also single handedly caused console shortages in all the stores in his area back when the Xbox 360 launched
Also also, he bought an unspecified number of Xbox Series X. @@ASpaceOstrich
If I remember correctly, he actually bought 7 because of shipping delays or something.
That feeling when the episode ends and there's over 12 minutes of extra chatting (positive). Also I don't think the Xbox podcast was supposed to excite reasonable people, I think it was to try and calm down unreasonable people who legit think Microsoft is going to become Sega (and those are the people they were listening to).
Wait, Microsoft isn't the modern day Sega?
I do think Microsoft will leave the console in industry sooner or later, but I look at it more like them turning into Netflix than Sega.
@@KirbytronicWouldLiketoBattle No, becuase the xbox is not the dreamcast
(at time of recording)
Man, Graham's "no shit!" delivery was just... *Chef's kiss*
Beej's delivery of "arsonist!" was exquisite. 10/10 good sir
"When Ian says words" is certainly one of the most difficult to parse things to continue appearing in LRR content. Also
"When you say you've heard us, who were you listening to?" is such a great summation of both this announcement and so many prior "we've heard you..." announcements in the past.
The PS5 console sales in 2023 was less about doubling their current lifetime sales and more about it being the first year they really had the supply to meet demand.
All the previous years you had to fight scalpers and bots due to the extremely limited supply coming from manufacturers. Now I could stroll into any of my local spots and find at least one available in a physical storefront.
I saw that Fucking FFX-2 joke from a mile away. Stop making fun of my pretty pretty princess dress up game.
Hey, I love that game. -Graham
Hmmm I thought of that scam game Balan Wonderworld/land/place(?). It had a lot of costumes. But nothing else of value.
@@LRRVG the math minigame kept me from getting 100% completion.
I really need to go back and play X-2 again.
I even picked up the remaster for the PS3 (and later PC) and still haven't played it beyond briefly checking out how it performed on the latter.
@@LRRVGFFX-2 play it forward when?
As opposed to “Console Boers”: British consoles in Africa that were handed over to the Dutch during the era of Napoleon.
The Dutch! Again!
And now I return to pun time out.
As per Paul's request: I want more Little Big Planet games! Those are Sony owned and I adored every entry into the franchise.
LBP was vastly underappreciated and mishandled. 1& 2 were amazing and 3 was bungled.
The wreck that was LBP3 has reduced my hopes from 'new littlebigplanet game' to 'please put the servers back up so my years of creations aren't lost forever'
We got the sackboy game that was a PS5 launch title, I dunno how well it sold but if it was decent I imagine that will be the future of lbp.
thisss!!! i loved those games! i wish it made a comeback, would love it if it came to the switch or pc. T_T so many memories of making my own levels and going to other players
Each time Ian opens his mouth Mods are just reaching for the delay button while sobbing uncontrollably. If it's from sadness or laughter depends on the time
Cool fact related to Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. There is a Sega Genesis game, Alisia Dragoon. Made by Game Arts with Gainax. Gainax’s writers and artists worked on Nausicaa, and shortly after, the same people made Alisia Dragoon. Game Arts took all the art and story and wrote the code. Cool piece of history and for those of who played it realized the game was special. You get pets that fight with you.
Oh, lawd, that golden bikini for the western release of the game.
Still, though... I'm gonna have to take a look. Maybe at both the western and Japanese versions of the game.
I couldn't think of anything Sony needs to make until Beej said Gwen Stacy. Spider-Gwen would e a rare day one sale for me.
According to Wikipedia, there are actually 3 Nausicaä games, all developed by Technopolis Soft and released in 1984.
And those Nausicaä games are the reason why we didn't get any more Nausicaä games. 😅
@@JediMB They do look like buttgarbage. That may or may not be a consequence of when they were made, never played them myself, but just a glance makes me go “ew”
The biggest thing about the Satellaview was Radical Dreamers, which was essentially the basis for Chrono Cross (and, until recently, just as lost to time).
Was it ever actually lost to time? It came out in 1996, there are some remixes from 2001, and I played a copy back in 2009.
*Long-suffering moderator sigh*
I appreciate how Graham so accurately described the particular combination of delight and horror that ripples out through the staff and the audience whenever Ian Says Words.
Beej almost eye-rolling himself inside-out is a moment.
"To be let down I would have had to have had some specific expectation" Ah, my father said this at my graduation party.
Having Patrick Stewart's character riding the Nausicaa bug like a sandworm makes total sense.
Broke: using machine learning to put creative professionals out of work
Woke: using machine learning to generate entirely new video games out of random VHS tapes
This is why I don’t fully hate Ai/machine learning. There’s great applications out there, it’s just getting used for the most disruptive, harmful stuff first.
I grew up on "Warriors of the Wind" recorded to VHS off Canadian Superchannel back in the late 80's. I didn't see the cover for the VHS version until 2000 and had the exact same reaction.
Why yes, someone already did the Ballad of Buster Scruggs "First time?" meme with SEGA saying it to Xbox
Hold on, the 2009 Ghostbusters game was actually pretty good, and it stars the original cast and is effectively the third movie.
That "No shit?!" was _powerful._
Gotta love when the news coverage is 7 minutes and it's a 20 minute long video.
Yeah, I was wondering, is this the highest post-credits to news ratio yet?
I think not doing big numbers on the shared games is the point. That way the next time the fcc et al makes the “no you can’t because it’s a monopoly” argument they can point to the lousy numbers and lie saying “we tried that in 2024 and it turns out there isn’t a market for shared games. “
Oh heck, that’s smart.
Frankly the fact that the previously Satellaview exclusive “Chrono” game, “Radical Dreamers”, was released on modern systems *and* localized outside of Japan is just mind boggling on multiple levels. Personally my fingers are crossed that the Satellaview exclusive “Famicom Detective Club” game gets an updated release à la the recent remakes the original games received a couple years ago.
Speaking of mind boggling: Princess Peach getting a second shot at a solo game, and with a rather good marketing push behind it at that, *especially* considering how her first game fared.
The Xbox announcement was mentioned on the national broadcaster in Australia for their afternoon news.
…why??
Satellaview is extremely interesting, alongside that F-Zero stuff and BS Zelda there was also (as I understand it) a Fire Emblem game and also an entire Famicom Detective Club game as well. I hope those can get the same treatment as Zelda and F-Zero one day, but who knows. Sadly that really cool technology came with the consequence of being even more of a preservation nightmare than Nintendo's usual stuff.
I'm very much enjoying beej's forays into gaming history
No shit? I guess beejs get degreejs
Incredible when the 'end credits' play and you're not even halfway through the video.
As a veteran Sea of Thieves player this is huge news. Imagine tossing thousands of newly minted pirates into the chipper shredder, we are so excited :)
i'm happy that The Longest John's might have more people to randomly sing shanties to over voice chat
As someone for whom Sea of Thieves was a moderately interesting late summer pickup with friends last year, it'll be interesting to see how much worse the netcode handles players from the Switch edition, lol
Have fun jankstabbing them over and over while they don't rage at you in voice chat they don't have!
Sony actually only owns the spiderman rights for film (and maybe television). For games, Marvel still owns the IP and the developers of the new spiderman games just needed someone to fund the development. It has been alleged that Microsoft turned down the opportunity to fund them and have them exclusively so Sony snatched it up.
Sony still has a Life insurance division.
I still have that Donkey Kong tape! And the Starfox 64 one they came out with later!
Same! I'm not sure where in the house they're packed away, but I'm pretty sure I still have them.
I don't even know if I want another Legend of Dragoon game now.
Still want more Patapon, to the point I backed a Kickstarter for a 3rd party one.
20 minutes of checkpoint! A blessing!
SOMEONE SAID IT SOMEONE FINALLY MENTIONED A NAUSICAÄ VIDEO GAMES
My wife and I really enjoyed Pentiment! Her minor was in medieval studies and there were a lot of great book references. Honestly, a perfect stream game for Kathleen or Cameron to be tagalongs for.
Also Hi-Fi rush is definitely gem for fans of that genre.
Cameron did Pentiment for talking simulator last year.
@@rorythomas9469 LOL. Thanks! Going to add a view to that.
Graham's delivery on the final line of the first segment was perfect.
"I have a Bachelor's of Commerce" I like to imagine College Beej going "Man, I really like doing comedy, but that'll never get off the ground so I need a real job, I'll become a Chief Financial Officer instead!" and just...
Ended up being the CFO of a comedy company that he just GETS to be funny at and respected at too.
Ian makes comedic factual misstatements.
Ian sure says words.
20 minute checkpoint?! We EATING GOOD this week!
I'd have to say that Bloodborne is the most neglected Sony IP.
The kerning on the first story's lower third concerns me. (Hi Graham!)
Oh come on Beej, there's lots of Donkey Kong sequels. I mean Tropical Freeze came out just...ten years ago... Huh.
Thanks Paul, you let me reference: RIIIIIIDDGGE RACEEEERRR!
Graham saying beej is just some guy made me think of Lrr from futurama xD
Holy hell the anvil to the face of nostalgia about that DKC VHS. I think I still have a bunch of those old Nintendo promo tapes packed up somewhere. I watched the *hell* out of the Starfox 64 one.
It's Donkey Kong Country's 30th Anniversary
Yes, Sony still has Insurance in Japan. Sony Sompo is a car insurance company I believe, though it could be more. It's advertised regularly on Japanese TV Kanto region at least. Idol band Hinatazaka46 has two members appearing in their adverts regularly, Kamimura Hinano and Kosakana Nao.
WELL, FIRST OF ALL a big thanks for the Nausicaä talk. As a big fan of Nausicaä for basically my entire life, I've wanted a good game adaptation for a long, long time. (Not so much one extrapolated from the Warriors of the Wind version.)
5:00 I like how the obvious choices like Dr. Mario are ignored. Intentionally, I assume.
Also, I was under the impression that BS Zelda, while it may have used the AlttP engine, was kind of a remake of the original NES game but featuring a new set of player characters.
Pentiment and Hi-Fi Rush! No way! I'm so excited! (Seriously though those are both games I'm keen to play).
I got one of those VHS promo tapes for Donkey Kong Country. No clue what qualified me for that list, or where it is now.
to answer Paul, Days Gone.... a sequel got canceled so that dev team could make DLC for the Horizon Zero sequel
I think it's a fair hedge to say any random thing that fits a qualifier like "mobile version" might not be a scam -- there's just too much in the universe of what goes on with games... like every lo fi fan remake somebody posted for tips on itch is unauthorized and technically illegal but it's not literally a scam the way keyword trolling on paid mobile app stores is a scam
We were promised Graham covering Final fantasy news!
I always felt like fire Mario looks like a baker
BS Zelda is such a wild concept and I wish Nintendo (and companies in general) put some amount of effort into archiving these things.
If we’re getting costume based gameplay as a thing now, can I request a Cutie Honey game? That anime was a silly good time and I would totally play it.
Woah woah woah now
Ghostbusters The Video Game (2009) Its a banger!
👻
Weird, I was re-reading about Satellaview only yesterday. Coincidence?! Absolutely yes.
On the pricing, I *think* users had to subscribe to the St. GIGA satellite radio service Satellaview used? But once they did, and bought the hardware, all the Nintendo content was at no additional cost.
Incredible system for the mid-90s for sure, back when tech felt more interesting (and dare I say it, optimistic).
It is, as usual, a weird week in gaming.
Does Sony own the Mr Pigglesworth’s investor Simulator? If so we need more of that
I *felt* Beej's eyeroll.
It's good to know mu clicks are valued.
Oh heck I ALSO got two of that tape! High five, Beej!
"We value your clicks" should be a Nsberg town motto joke on Qwerpline.
Thanks guys! Love your vids
@LRRVG Hey Graham, was the Warriors of the Wind poster bugging you the way it was bugging me? Cause it was, when suddenly I realized “hey wait, that’s just the Wrath of Khan poster font!” And it is. Legally distinct I’m sure, but near as makes no difference 😝👌💯.
I hope the princess peach game is good. And that the AI who retroextrapolates my existence from social media after my death gives me nicer hair.
A the Satellaview, partially responsible for the insanity of the Chrono Trigger/Radical Dreamers/Chrono Cross cannon/continuity discussions.
I have been watching this show for a huge chunk of my life. The algorithm would introduce more people to this show if you had a dedicated channel for it. People watch checkpoint 10x more than other videos on your channel. It hurts your algo to do that. Checkpoint as a dedicated channel would perform waaay better.
Ghostbusters got a good game for the PS3 add Xbox 360 I think I think it got re released for PS4 too.
Funny enough Ghostbusters and Batman were the first 2 games my parents bought me on the C64, it's a good game but does have the same beat
I believe The Last of Us/Naughty Dog is same situation as Spiderman/Insomniac Games. Sony bought them, making them Playstation Studios to make Playstation games.
Princess Peach had to put her Vibe Sceptre away for this new employment opportunity because credit card companies threatened to stop letting her accept payment for her freelancing.
I'm sure Sony will be announcing Gravity Rush 3 any day now.
Competitive Katamari would be neat
Beej, I have an original copy of Ghostbusters for MSX on cassette tape, if that helps. Or at least I probably do, I haven't tried to load it for a few decades...
Algorithmic punch
New Beej lore unlocked.
Wait, does Beej really have a Bachelor’s in Commerce?
I don't like the plagiarism that AI is based on, but damn is the tech cool. I love that story.
I was definitely among those who cancelled various subscription services due to increasing costs, particularly Sony's.
I'm sorry but the Ghostbusters game on PS3 was AMAZING
I thought Beej was an engineer. Not that they are mutually exclusive.
wow holy shit, Beej is right, that is some Star Trek level cool stuff
"arsonist!" lol
SONY, RELEASE A NEW GODDAMN WIPEOUT GAME ALREADY!
The Hi Fi Rush news is good!
Huh, Sony Life - part of Sony Financial - does still exist as a thing in Japan
The Legend of the Dragoon should get a remake.
As a Brit I want to say “Lemmings”. Lemmings as loud as I can. My avatar for PSN has been a lemming for about a decade now I want to make it clear to Sony they have to build a new one, which they did, a good one which they did, and then not fill it with micro transactions which alas they also did.
PoPoLoCrois, which has never had an actual complete English release, just 2 of the games cut and fused together incompletely.
@@bungiefan Not the same but it’s good fun, got for my PS3 and loved it.
Vib Ribbon needs a new gane
Somehow I had never known about Warriors of the Air until today. Thanks I hate it. :-P
Another piece of old tech before its time? Sega Channel. I loved Sega Channel
Is Ratchet and Clank a Sony IP?
Hi-Fi Rush is excellent, do play it!
Pentiment is very good… but I dunno that it NEEDS to be on console.
Wait Beej screw you. Ghostbusters the Video Game is one of the best licensed games of all time.
“no shit”
