      The spare tire does fit in the Golf/GTI with the Helix sub. I may even have a photo of that in this video. Thanks for writing. -Scott

    I read in the forums you can install the Helix ON TOP OF the spare tire (just order the $7 longer stem holding the spare). So, my dealership did just that a few weeks ago. My dealership was freaking out how clean it looked, and how the bass was even BETTER sitting higher in the trunk. This isn't just a subwoofer, it's a crossover. It brings out the awesomeness of the sound. SO CLEAN. Sounds like butter. You want to thump when the bass drops? This WILL do it. Want to rock? This will do it. Sounds AMAZING.

      Vicky - Thanks for the note. The Helix system really is a good upgrade for the money. I'm not sure if it's worth full retail plus VW installation, but it's certainly worth what I shared in the video. Time will tell if I add Helix to my wife's new Jetta SE. Thanks for visiting! -Scott

      I also rented a dongle and it made an instant difference. I had to flatten my equalisers and remove audio enhancements on my phone to make it all sound perfect. 57 was the much better tune as you hear vocals from the A pillar tweeters on the mib2. But you know all this already 😂

      Glad I could help! Ironically, I removed my Helix to make room for more ham radio equipment. I can put it back since the wiring harness is still in the car. But, to be honest, the louder exhaust note makes it difficult to hear a huge difference at my current listening levels. Thanks for visiting!

    I swapped the helix subwoofers with two JL Audio 6w3v3-4, wired in parallel, powered by an alpine MRV-M500 that’s receiving its signal from the helix unit. I was completely blown away by the amount of clean bass these things produce, almost on par with the two JL Audio 10w3v2-d4’s that I’ve had in my other car for about a decade. Sadly, this makes it even more noticeable how dull the rest of the speakers in my 2018 gti sound.

    • @StealthGTI

      Chris - I need to sit in a car with a crisp sound stage. Otherwise, it's hard for me to know if my stereo is dull or if my old hearing is culprit. Someone recently sat in my car and said it sounded very detailed and bright. I'll have to try another car to be certain. Thanks for visiting. -Scott

    Getting this programmed by my dealer was a nightmare. I got them to throw this in with the deal when I bought a new 2017 Jetta SEL which was nice! I think off the bat I had a faulty Helix amplifier and the subwoofer didn’t produce bass. I found someone local to me on VWVortex with the same Jetta and a Helix to come to the dealer with me to demonstrate to service how it was supposed to sound. Sure enough mine was not putting out bass from the subs. They replaced my Helix amp but still could not figure out the DSP presets. The service guy was convinced the higher the number on the programming dongle, the more bass, lol. I also found out they wired the left and right channels backwards which they also had to fix. No idea how they did that when it is a plug and play harness. I ended up going to a different VW dealer that had the Helix dongle and they happily programmed my Helix to the correct Jetta Mk6 DSP. Very pleased with this setup, huge improvement over stock audio and overall soundstage. It is super important the correct DSP is programmed into the amp via the dongle or else your audio will sound wacky. ALSO REMOVE THE RJ-45 JUMPER PRE-INSTALLED ON AMP. It sets the sound stage for right-hand drive cars. Highly recommend this for non-Fender or non-Dynaudio Volkswagens!!

    • @StealthGTI
      @StealthGTI  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That first dealer you dealt with was staffed by buffoons! I just flashed another GTI owner's car this week. It took less than a minute. I had him sit inside the car as I flashed his amp so that he could hear the immediate difference. Glad you got it sorted.

    I have the Fender Premium Audio in GSW from '15.
    Very happy with it and better imaging than my old 3500 thousand custom system in my Saab 900T coupe.
    I had a fosgate 360.6 under back seat, 8" mbquart mids, 4.25 mbq highs and sealed jL audio 12" sub, audio control preamp, pioneer 12 CD changer under trunk. It was amazing!
    I would crank up Pink Floyd or Tool and people would come around and listen.
    Could do a concert from the car with Optima jumbo yellow top deep cycle batt. The alternator was only 115amps.
    One ticket for excessive sound amplification playing Rush one time..lol
    I still have my hearing but it can be dangerous, the amount of times you have ringing in your ears.
    Cheers

      Good stuff! I had shared a review on my website that features this quote from a VWVortex user:
      “All of you should be VERY happy with what you got for the money. Especially those that paid $250. Yes, certain aspects of the Helix could be better, but now that I have perspective on the sound of the Helix compared with the system I just installed that cost 4 times more, I really appreciate the work and engineering that went into this bespoke sound upgrade solution for our vehicles. Helix is an award-winning company renowned for its super high sound quality and they have packed a lot of their intellectual property into this amp. The value is especially surprising when you look at how small the amp is and realize there is a built-in DSP with EQ, time alignment, etc!”

    Bought one of these many months ago and after unsuccessfully searching for someone local with the dongle, I ordered one of those also and then finally found a free day for the install. Unfortunately I hit a rub right away. My car doesn't have the unit in the glove box that all of the install videos show the Helix plugging into. I did call a local shop that specializes in European cars like mine, in fact they've done some great work on my car in the past and I trust them, but even they told me they couldn't install this unit. I'm not sure what to do at this point.

    • @StealthGTI
      @StealthGTI  ปีที่แล้ว

      Does VW's website show it as being compatible with your vehicle? If yes, then it's likely that the back of your head unit has the same connector(s) as the glovebox unit on other cars, except for the remote display. If that's true, then I see little reason why Helix would not work. You just have a different degree of work to do to get the job done since (I think) you'd have to disassemble parts of the center console to access the back of the stereo. Good Luck!

I was just very confused with the wiring until I finally just made up my mind to watch LHG's video over and over and over, even though I can't stand watching videos when people hand hold their cameras/phones. It disturbs me. Hah. But I soldiered through, cussed a bit, made a quick trip to the auto parts place for a de-pinning tool, and got it done. The only thing I was unable to do was update the dongle. I just used the 57 code that came programmed on the card with the dongle I bought. My 2016 GTI volume stops going up at about 60-70% of max volume. It seems like there’s some type of limiter on it. Do you know if this will fix that or do you know another fix for that problem?

    • @StealthGTI
      @StealthGTI  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello - I think that's somewhat normal behavior for a lot of lower power head units. They do that to get more "oomph" in the early movement of the volume dial... "WOW" factor for the owner, right? ;-) The Helix upgrade will not resolve that; it will only increase overall volume. As a result, "70%" is quite loud. In fact I tried to follow all video I found and the documentation of the DSP to active the sound but (after the setting program "57") when I power off the discovery pro, the amplifier cut too and no sound in all system anymore. To discover the sound I have to unplug the power of the amplifier and plug it again until the time I power off the discovery again... If anybody can help me. Thank you very much.

      WOW! That's an interesting problem. Is this on a North American car? I don't know if it matters. Also, you re-pinned the power cable, right? You said you followed all directions, but I still have to ask since your problem reads like a power issue. -Scott

    Hi Stealth... I have a 2019 SEL Tiguan, and the stock 6 speaker system... really missing the Fender that was in my older SEL... torn between the Helix ($560 plus install is basically $800, don't feel confident installing myself)... or spending a little more on a 10" and a separate amp... thoughts?

    • @StealthGTI
      @StealthGTI  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Blaise - It depends on your preferences. Are you happy with your mids/highs and looking for just a boost of bass? If just a bass boost, the 300-watt subwoofer system I first installed could be done for $450 in parts, plus installation and box. Just tap into the speaker outputs at the head unit. That was Rockford Fosgate Punch stuff. I now have a 500-watt Rockford Fosgate Power setup that is about double the cost. If you're looking for improvement all around (highs, mids, and lows), then the $800 installed price of Helix isn't bad at all, especially if you like the MIB2 interface. Check out my Helix long-term review, which includes a good quote from a 3rd party: stealthgti.com/2018/10/04/long-term-review-helix-sound-upgrade/. If you require professional installation, then it's going to cost whether it's done by your VW dealer or another shop. "Pay to Play," right? ;-) Thanks for visiting! -Scott

      @@StealthGTI Thanks Scott... The Mids / Highs are ok... could be clearer but don't suck... I have been turning the bass down and highs up and its much more clear, just then lacking bass... I guess the thing is if i put in just a sub, I'm gonna have ok clarity and more bass... if I go Helix, its more clarity, but much less bass than like a stand alone 10" sub, right? ... so that is helix vs just sub... do you have any thoughts on running a different 4 channel amp for all the speakers? or is that just too messy?.... by MIB2 interface do you just mean the stock screen interface? I know if I run a different amp I may lose my fader etc... Thanks Blaise

      I guess my last question is... can you install the Helix and then later add an additional sub? is there roomy to hook up both? would that work? I know I like good sound and I have never installed or added anything myself. Thanks again.

      @@blaisedelacroix1832 - Sorry for the delay. I've had a busy few days. Unless you play your music quite loudly, I don't think you'll need a 4-channel amp over a Helix upgrade. I've never felt the need to go beyond 50 watts per channel, except for the sub. Also, I think you'll be surprised by Helix's bass output. I know I was. Yes, MIB2 = stock screen. I'll answer your other questions in your other post.

      @@blaisedelacroix1832 - I'm sure anything is possible, but I wouldn't do both. Check out other videos in my channel and my blog entry at stealthgti.com/electronics-suite/ to see how I added a 500W subwoofer system to my Helix setup. In my case, I REPLACED the Helix subwoofer with a larger sub and added a dedicated amp for the new sub. I still enjoy Helix's DSP and front imaging, but have added deeper, more powerful bass. See my blog for details.

    Hello, do you know if the helix subwoofer will work on the 2019 GTI SE? Thanks in advance.

    • @StealthGTI
      @StealthGTI  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Assuming that any 2019 GTI SE will come with an "available" Fender premium audio system, the Helix upgrade will NOT work since Fender already includes an external amp and subwoofer. Thanks for visiting! -Scott

      @@josephbrenyah4910 - According to VW's website, Fender is an option on the SE. It seems to me that dealers will order their SEs loaded to maximize profit. However, if your SE does not have Fender, then Helix will work. Fair enough?

    I have this setup in my MK7. For some reason, my subwoofer doesn’t work when I want it to. It gradually comes when it wants about 15-30 min after driving. Anyone having the same issue? It works when it wants to but when it does, it kicks pretty hard.

      Jesse - Have you ever adjusted the potentiometer (tiny screw), often referred to as a "gain" screw? I'm not suggesting that anyone touch this. BUT, if you've ever touched it, then it may be out of alignment and worth fiddling with. Thanks for visiting! -Scott

      StealthGTI Hello Scott! I have not adjusted the gain screw though I have taken a look at the subwoofer to inspect if any wires may have been lose or frayed. It didn’t appear to have any malfunctioning from the wires. I have been looking for a solution to this issue for months now !

    Stealth I have the fender audio system in my 15 gti se. I would really like to go active with pro mids and super tweeters and go high end on a 8 inch sundown with a close to 3000 rms 5 channel amp. Do I need anything to hook up to the fender amp or is there a way to use the fiber optic?

    • @StealthGTI
      @StealthGTI  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have not studied the Fender system to that degree. I had a subwoofer upgrade in my Mk6 Jetta TDI with Fender. But I was completely unaware of any fiber in the system. I recommend a visit to GolfMk7.com and checking out their Infotainment section. Good Luck!
