Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit New York - 299 South St Pier 36, New York, 10002 - www.vangoghnyc.com/
I can only speak to Pier 36, but it was amazing. I’ve been a Van Gogh fan my entire life; there’s something about his art, from what he painted to how he painted it, that has always just connected with me. I think this exhibit did him justice. I was surprised at how much I actually enjoyed the musical selection, and how it seemed to fit the visuals. I highly recommend it.
Agreed. She could have quietly taken footage and narrated it later on, which would have sounded better anyways. Seems rude and inconsiderate of other people. I can’t imagine being comfortable doing something like that.
@@rubberducky19 well you went during peak days or holidays so that’s why you paid that much because it does cost only $35-$40 each for the basic entry unless you paid vip package or something or got screwed over
Go to his museum in Amsterdam! It is so cool!!!! The last painting is so sad though. It is the last painting that he did and has black ravens over a field.
@@MitchikosUNIVERSE I agree! To see the last painting, and to know he killed himself, and that the world did not understand him, and that he just wanted to help the poor people caused me to walk around Amsterdam with a heavy soul.
@@cherylkeller5181 Wow! THanks for that information. Once I was with a crowd in France and one guy from Tennesee asked everyone if they had been to the Dolly musuem in Florida. I was with some other Americans from New YOrk and they started laughing saying, "Nobody in Paris wants to see Dolly Parton's museum". Well, the guy from Tennessee was talking about the Salvadore Dali museum that is in FLorida!
So . . . the second one you went to has a 12-minute preshow audio they recommend you listen to beforehand. It gives a bunch of information about him so that you go into the show without having it interrupted by drab narration. The man who wrote it spent 30 years working on it, and rather than showing the paintings in chronological order of when they were painted, is meant to show the different stages of Van Gogh’s life through grouping the subjects and themes. Half of the music is original compositions specifically written for the show, too, and yes, it is all synced and carefully chosen to evoke the mood. Meanwhile the first one you went to ripped off the idea because of how successful the original was in Europe. I’m not saying it’s bad because of that, and any exposure to such wonderful art is fantastic, but its existence is very underhanded and kind of steals business from a true passion project. The “VR” section seems like a cheap cash grab, the animations are much simpler, and the narration is a not-so-sneaky way to make up for the lack of good audio. It’s a hastily-thrown together imitation. So to anyone who has the luxury of being able to choose between “the Experience” and “the Exhibit,” I definitely urge you to go to “the Exhibit.” It’s so much more moving.
I'm so glad I saw this comment! We currently have "the Exhibit" coming to Kansas City, but there's another interactive Van Gogh exhibit here as well ("Van Gogh Alive"). I actually found a Better Business Bureau article warning consumers that there are actually FOUR different exhibits currently touring the U.S. with very similar names, so just to make sure they're booking with the one they actually want. Super shady...thank you for sharing the origins of the Exhibit. Now that I know, I will definitely be going to that one.
The exhibits look pretty cool although they do look rater pricey! I would prefer the first one (Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience) because it has a mix of everything including some historical information on Van Gogh and the artwork. I'm glad Bella had such a great time!
good video, as an aesthetic person the ceilings tend to break the immersion tho its prolly diff in person. Also in 20 years the kid is gonna have reoccurring dreams thinking this building was some sort of alternate dimension
3:19 "Vincents artistic career spanned cities and villages in Belgium and France". What? They forgot that Vincent was Dutch and painted the entire first half of his career in The Netherlands? Why did they not even mention his native country where it all started for him?
Not forgotten. If you see the whole Van Gogh: Immersive show there is no skimping on the first half of Vincent's life and his Dutch upbringing. That one display seen for a split second in the video shows his travels but there are many other displays. But be aware -- there is almost no biographical information in the second exhibit, Immersive Van Gogh.
Thank you! I saw there are two different experiences and was wondering what the differences were. They are both booked pretty heavy until September though.
I went to NYC for the first time a few weeks ago and it was amazing. Thank you for your guides. I am planning another trip for September. I am in love with the city and wish I could live there now. The first one is in Seattle also. There were dozens of chairs, and carpet with extra carpet circles to sit on. The VR was awesome! Portland had a much more scaled down version, different brand, cement floors and 4 benches only! Not recommended.
Sarah, you know you have a little star in your arms, I’m sure; Bella is adorable!!! My favorite part of the video was the one she obviously enjoyed the most, looking at the “other“ baby in the mirror. ❤️ I apologize for not watching the video in detail, scrubbing through it, but it’s only because I didn’t want to many spoilers before I see it myself. I’ll go back and watch it later after I have seen them.
I tried to sit down at the one in Buffalo and the security guard yelled at us. There were only about 3 seats available, many old people had no where to rest. Just awful. It's good to see that seating was available in other cities. There were no VRs and only one immersive room, there were no real paintings on display, but there was his history listed before the room.
I went to pier 36, if I wanted a history lesson, I could google the info. When I wanted to see the paintings I went to the museums. From this video I can see I made the right choice ( inadvertently). It was a great experience & very well done. Also, in my opinion it’s always better to see the original.
It looks like cheap video production with washed out colors. But I didn't pay for this. People who paid so much for I just trying to justify paying so much for it.
I can promise you the second one is neither washed out nor cheaply made video production. The guy who wrote it put 30 years of work into it. The camera in this video is just bad, and I don’t think a camera exists that can capture the vibrancy of it. Definitely worth the money if you have a chance. If I could afford it I’d go every week.

I was googling reviews because I just went to the second one in another city and was pretty underwhelmed, so wanted to see what others thought. So this is my first visit to your channel. Your reviews of both exhibits were great, your daughter is so, so cute, and the captions you wrote of her thoughts were precious! I think the quality of the exhibition space may have some impact on enjoyment. It was all one room in the city that I saw it in, and there were minimal mirrors. Also, the floor was brick or cobblestone, so the projections on the floor were not that vivid. I didn’t feel that “immersed” as a result 🤷♀️ The reviews I’ve read are pretty positive to super positive, though, so I guess I’m just an outlier. Anyway, great reviews, thanks!
The first exhibit looks much different than I envisioned it. What an experience!! This looks amazing!! Sure I love seeing Van Gogh's work in museums, but this immersive experience is one that I would absolutely love to take in!! Your little one is so adorable! I think little Bella has a thumbs up, overall, to this immersive art experience!! I'd love the VR experience! Both exhibits are terrific, but my favourite is the first experience. It just had a different intensity for me. This was so fabulous!! Thank you so much!! :-)
Well that was interesting. Being a non-NYer I think I would find them interesting. However the viewers looked quit intense and immersed in what they were viewing. I’m not surprised someone disrupted your commentary on the event. Thank you for reviewing these and posting.
Bella reminds me of my eldest niece so much, my niece is half Italian and half English. She’s now in her mid thirties and a lawyer and I’ve arranged to bring her along with my family and my favourite wife, should Covid allow us.😖🙄. I was hoping to book flights for this year but, it looks like late September 22 now however, the Joy of my life will be sixty then.😍🥳🤞🏻. Thanks again for your time guys from this side of the pond here in England (Brexitland 🇪🇺🤭).
I went to the Pier 36 Immersive van Gogh Experience and it was massively disappointing at least. Its a bunch of repeating projectors that high-schoolers can put together using video editing software. It is NOT worth the price of admission. Seriously, I expected a LOT more…oh and remember to exhit through the Gift Store; what else.
Let's just Van Gogh! 😂😂 I can't. Anyways, I love the first one since I went and it made me appreciate his art more and learn about his life. Thank you for this wonderful tour for both of these exhibits Sarah! It is so ridiculously silly that there are two Van Gogh exhibits currently. How the hell did that happen? After watching your video I think I have made my decision, not to go to either of them, haha! Thank you very much for another great video and I can't wait for the next one!
I know this is an old comment but I can answer your question as to why there are two: the second one in this video is the original that opened in France. The man who wrote on it worked on it for 30 years. It was a smashing success there, so some other company swooped in, cheaply copied the idea and threw in some VR for extra pull and started opening them in the States quicker.
If you don’t know who Vincent Van Gogh was, and what kind of paintings he did, then go to this exhibition. But, if you know Vincent van gogh then you will be far better off using the money to buy a couple of art books and If you don’t need the books then donate them to a school or library
Bella is soooooo cutttte!!!! That ribbon on her head?!! So adorable. And I'm loving your mask!!! Fun video to watch - loving your reactions. I hope that this immersive experience happens all over the world, too. Van Gogh deserves all the honor for his amazing works!! The Starry Night is something I would love to experience. (I sell some really affordable low content books with this theme).
I would be so pissed off after paying the money I did for a ticket if there is a wailing baby the whole time. I am upset that this experience allows babies or small children to attend when people pay good money to be immersed in the paintings and music.
@@SarahFunky That's good. I'm sorry if that came off as really rude or aggressive. I just have to hear crying babies a lot because I work retail and I've had movies ruined by them, etc. When my sister was a baby she had colic and screamed for hours on end. I'm also really sound sensitive... so babies and small children bother me a bit. Your baby is lovely though and I don't mean any ill will toward you or them. I'm sorry my reply sounded so harsh.
11.14.21,Hi Sarah: will u b chkin out SF CA Immersive Exp? To enjoy the art shows, I heard it’s Advisable to pre-view his masterpieces in the free TH-cam etc videos especially of his Life. I did this. I learned his impoverished life of self abuse & sickness his incredible talent & vision & death by gunshot at 37 yrs. He completed over 800paintings plus 1,000’s works in 16 yrs. The most famous sold for +$82 million. 150 were painted in his last 2 years in an asylum.
I just went to see the so call "Exhibition" . Its not worth it . To really appreciate Van Gogh's art you must see in a museum , this is just like seen it a movie in 3D with animation . NO. The animation has to come from your mind and get into Van Gogh.s art, thats how you appreciate art! I paid as a VIP , for what ? No parking available , have to wait in line , I have to pay $16.00 dollars for parking space , the only difference between VIP and general admission, was that I paid more ! Not to mention time and gas money to get there , 6400 Sunset Blv. Los Angeles California . If i would know this , I would'nt spend a single penny on thisi!

You are a Great mum this was the best.. showing IsaBella the important stuff in life 🌏 Art is everything
The most mediocre exhibit ive ever been to
I’ve been wanting to try this place it looks so cool!!!
You should!
Actually, I take back what I said in my previous comment, I think that I will go to the one with the bar, haha!
Hi Sarah. Could you do a tour of Pier 76😊
Wow! Beautiful thank you for video showing! Nice and smile Bella so cute have a great enjoy! God bless! ❤💖💕👍
Hi Elizabeth, thank you so much 🤗
Bella is gorgeous! She looks like a doll. She is so tiny. Beautiful!
Thanks Sarah God bless you, Bella she is gorgeous.
District park location for earth employees experience
I love Thom Yorke but Dawn Chorus is so damn depressing. Surprised to hear that in a Van Gogh exhibition.
OMG She looks just like Louie
your daughter is sooo precious
I appreciate this. This really helped me plus you have the cutest baby ever. Love the bow. Im going to the better one
Isabella looks awesome, se might bien thinking like i dont know stuff and things and colors
Went to the vancouver exhibit yesterday. Art is brilliant but the presentation was alright.
Couldn't count how many hundred 'Oh my God' ' she said!
very good video, thank you, yes i want more activity to do NYC...Bella very sweet and cute baby ...sh's never cried and happy to watch everything.
Thank you! 😀
I would be so pissed off after paying the money I did for a ticket if there is a wailing baby the whole time. I am upset that this experience allows babies or small children to attend when people pay good money to be immersed in the paintings and music.
My baby didn't cry at all when we were there lol
Awe my sweet Bella! So little
Isabella is so adorable! Great places to take kids to!
oh my God what an adorable baby!
It seems worth to at least go once and experience it
This was great! Thanks, if I go to one I'll go to the first one
Such a precious baby!
