I read this book in 2011 and it is just as gripping to read in 2021. Mrs. Song, Jun-Sang, Kim Hyuck... Individuals like these displayed such fortitude in the face of the world's most extreme oppression. They teach us to be grateful for every comfort we have in life. *Every one.*
I read her book back in '12 and loved it. It deserved all the accolades it received. It points the finger at the real story of Socialism, taken to its natural essence. This includes ole Bernie's brand.
"What good book doesn't deserve being plagiarized" she tells an audience of Mormons who believe in The Book of Mormon, arguably the greatest work of biblical plagiarism and fan-fiction in history.
Capitalism isn't especially worth fighting for either. I don't know what people see in capitalism. If you're the average Joe you must work just to make ends meet. I don't know why Americans always make such a drama about North Korea. I'm sure in many ways their socialism is better than this wild sociopathic capitalism with Protestant roots. Truely asked, what do you see in American society that is so great, that is so worth fighting for, that makes you think "Oh my God, we're so much better than them"? I've been living in the US for 15 years and I still can't see what's so great about the US. I don't know what freedoms you're talking about or what's so special about the US. How could they plagiarize the Bible? What is this lady talking about? What do these people have in their brains that this conference is somehow so interesting and appealing to them? Do all these people think the US is a model society? What if you get robbed or stabbed when you leave the conference room where you've been criticizing North Korea so much? Have you checked the criminality rate or the education level of the United States lately? We shouldn't be pointing fingers.
Hello. Not sure if you are from Russia or N Korea, but if you have to ask "what freedoms you're talking about", then I doubt you have lived in America for 15 days let alone 15 years. First of all we have electricity. Only a small percentage of out population (less than 5%) cannot afford electricity. I work in a restaurant and I live about an hour from Pittsburgh, PA. I have never met someone who does not have electricity in their home or apartment 24 hours a day. If an American community looses electricity for more than a day or two (which has never happened to me) that is a once in a lifetime event usually due to an extreme storm or hurricane. We also have food in America. I live less than half an hours drive from 8 supermarkets, each of which has more food in it than most N Koreans will see in a year. Except of course of Kim Jong Un who looks like he has not missed many meals in his life. Genuine hunger is a rarity in America. We have the freedom to speak our minds. Out loud, in public, on TV, on the internet, in magazines. No one here goes to jail for criticizing the government, or suggesting that some part of our government is mismanaged. I have had good things and bad things to say about Presidents Clinton, Bush, Obama and Trump ( mostly good about Obama and mostly bad about Trump). I don't have to fear someone from the government coming for me to arrest me or interrogate me. I also have the freedom to worship as I want. I can follow any religion, any denomination of Christianity and I can own and read a Bible, Koran, Buddhist Sutras or any other book I want. Or I can not follow a religion if I so desire. I follow a religion that is a minority religion, and I don't have to worry about the government interfering. I don't need permission to travel in my own country. I can leave my country if I wish. I don't have to try to escape over a river into the next country if I want to leave, frightened that I might be caught and thrown into prison for years. If an American wants to move to another country, they can. We are citizens, not prisoners. We have television, movies, magazines and the internet that is not monitored by the government. We are free to learn about other countries, get news from anywhere in the world. We can travel to those countries if we wish. Our government does not have to block out any information from the outside world so we can't compare our lives to those of people in other countries. We do have to work to make ends meet, but making ends meet in America is better than what the vast majority of N Koreans will ever know. 88% of Americans own a car. I own a car. About 95% of homes here own a television. About 77% of US homes have a computer with internet connection. I am far from rich but I have more luxuries than the vast majority of N Koreans. Yes, I have seen the education level in America, it could be better. But I also see people coming here for all over the world to study in our universities and colleges. And we have heard from N Korean defectors how their education is useless to them when they leave because it is so far behind the rest of the world. They have to get retrained before they can continue their profession. Do you think we don't know about the thousands of people who defect and try to defect from N Korea? Do you think we have not heard their stories? N Korea is basically a prison. They live at the level of a poor third world country. That is why there are not thousands of people trying to sneak in. We know that American tourists there are shown only certain places and have government escorts where ever they go. They are shown the locations that have been staged to try to demonstrate how good life is in N Korea. But they also are not allowed to go anywhere off the designated areas arrainged for tourists because then the tourists would see what poor and desperate country the Kim dynasty has made. Socialism does not work. It does not work anywhere. It has kept N Korea a poor, backwards country and has only ever benefitted a handful of people like Kim Jong Un and his closest allies.
@@Degan1000 "Socialism does not work" maybe if it didnt work then the US gov wouldnt be sanctioning countries like the DPRK, Cuba, Iran and etc, but go ahead and blame it on Socialism/Communism. Maybe you should learn from history which It seems a lot of you in US dont learn a damn thing from it and continue with the same ignorance, over and over. You should look at the root of the problem and that is the US gov and sanctioning these countries. Your gov is not the world police, but go ahead and keep supporting their bs and crimes. One day it will be the rest of you finally paying for it and the world will be a better place.
Jeff Foehringer thank you for your articulation & for taking the time to educate this fellow. It’s really sad what a lack of nutrition accompanied by personality cult brainwashing does to the mind. I couldn’t have explained it better myself! I look forward to the North Korean population being educated about the truth.
