I'm impressed with what Microtech is putting out lately. All the new gen 3 models habe been simply fantastic. Super happy with my new combat troodon, scarab and ludt.
Carrying mine for the first day today. So far I love most things about it. Really miss the S/N I actually liked that. Also I 100% agree something to distinguish them as the first production run would’ve been awesome and it’s really surprising not to have that. Blade play is not an issue for me but overall really cool knife.
I recently bought two OTF knives, a Guardian Tactical 035, and a Microtech Ultratech ZBT. Aside from the ZBT having absolutely no blade wiggle and the 035 having a little bit. The Guardian Tactical 035 is a better product all around. The 035 has a better action, better ergonomics, is made from better components and overall more visually appealing (just my opinion). Also you can buy two Guardian Tactical 035s for the same price as one microtech ultratech ZBT
also i’ll add… i’m super bummed about the button play!! that’s honestly almost bothered me more than the blade play… i hate that double clicky clacky button sound every time i actuate my microtechs
These are cool. But the 1st one scratched my otf itch. Don’t use it at all after it hitting the ground and being returned, twice…on the same day. Mess with it occasionally. Sure like the arrow head sticker. As far as stickers go. Have a good weekend
I’m pretty underwhelmed. I am a total Microtech geek, and I have been super impressed with the dual fuel system since it was released. My Scarab and my Troodons are amazing. This is a good knife, but I was expecting the same smooth and easy action as the others. This knife, other than the zero blade play, isn’t any improvement over my OG Ultratechs. Not only is it just as stiff as the other Ultratechs, I had deployment issues the first day I had it. It’s gotten a little better as I’ve played with it over the past few days, but the Troodon, the Hera, and the Scarab beat this knife out.
Its funny with all the fuss about the rattles and blade play. It does not effect it as far as not being reliable. There are plenty of tests that prove it doesn't make the knife fail, unlike a folder if it has blade play. My glocks rattle like crazy but they are super reliable.
Does the dual action feel the same on your Ultratech and Combat Troodon? I just received my Ultratech ZBT today and feels like the gen 2 action. I also have the gen 3 Troodon and the action feels smoother
Just had a misfire with mine. Blade doesn’t get pulled out to be set back on track u have to fling the blade downward back into the handle and then it’s good.
I just picked one up from my LGS and have had the same issue out of the box. After playing with it a little haven't had any more miss fires but I still have to do the same thing to reset it. Did you ever find a solution to this?
@ it’s funny you should ask that. I used it to open a geode chipping the tip. Also failed on one of the hits with the hammer. But after that it’s been flawless. So beat the shit out of it and it will figure itself out
Actually kinda disappointing they didn’t put a first production run serial number or something on it. I remember I ordered the Malibu when it first came out and it was #298.
@ I’ve held that one multiple times and every time I do I’m jealous that mine is the aluminum version lol. The heft really does make it feel much nicer in hand and the action feels much better too.
1. Having that little bit of blade play was never an issue. 2. Hardness test the steel before stating how it’s “the best M390” I doubt it’s in the range of maximum efficiency for edge retention
I’m sending mine back. The zero play is as advertised but I don’t like the rattling wiggling switch. It cheapens the knife in my opinion. Most of my other OTFs have solid switches. Not impressed.
To the button play complainers, If you tighten the button tolerance like axial does, the button gets fouled much much much easier. Relax with the button play - you are getting a titanium pocket clip, silicon carbide ball, gen III easy deploy dual fuel action, zero blade play that can also be adjusted down the line for $50 bucks more. This level of value in the knife world is unprecedented - No one is giving more for less money now than Microtech.
why do they use that finish? I don't see the benefits of using a matte/porous finish, it would just collect more gunk and bacteria if you were using it out in the bush or for camping and food, looks like a nice knife though otherwise
I have two MT otf's, 1 was hard to open and close. The second one was so hard to open it started to rip my nail from my finger. Don't buy Microtech otf's, cost to much and they suck.
just got mine today and it feels wicked! cant wait to use her everyday LIKE SHE WAS MADE FOR

you’re like the first reviewer on this piece of history!! kinda cool 😉
I can’t wait for the special editions
Me too 💯
do they normally do special editions? what kinda release timeline are they known for for this?
Saw 1 other video of Melissa at shot show with that knife. No button play. But you know how the demo models of anything is perfect as possible
I carry that same CT everyday. It's an amazing knife

What is S/N
Series number?
Serial number. All the ultratechs had them until now.
I picked up one also. My first OTF and my first Microtech. I'm impressed.
Where'd you get one? I cant find any online
@@ThePorkchop1787 I picked it up from "microtech gear" on the day it went live.
Dlt trading is releasing one every few hours

So impressive! so the question is when will the others OTF be updated to ZBT

Never owned one. No way to some of the rattle with some light grease? I guess it would be a dirt magnet
I agree 100%
I have 10 4 do that and 6 don't so I dont really care anymore
@@justinhorn2864 you’re better off than i am.. i’ve been through about 10 of them… only my mini hera has almost no rattle
@@billscott6819 unfortunately not… it just fits in there so loosely….
I want one just a tad smaller for edc awesome knife

Can I get one with a black blade are they available buddy.
Does your Ultratech have spring sing? Mine seems to make that annoying “ting” sound that the cheaper otf knives make.
A little fluoridated grease on the springs will get rid of that
I hope yhe do a combat troodon zbt...
I had a Socom Elite. But, the lock faied under MINIMAL spine wacks. My Kershaws don't do that. So much for a hard use folder.

Yeah right ! Speaking of Protech I just got myself finally found one. The custom Mordax with stainless steel handles and gridlock pattern. Can’t wait

Probably gonna sell my 2012 one. If I can get decent $ out of it. These are cool though. Enjoy

Wait until it breaks and it will break their customer service is the worst in the KNIFE business
I appreciate the video, but how could you in good conscience not open it up and let us see the guts? That's where the real excitement is
CBRx did a disassembly vid showing it
