Peterbilt 320 Maxon Legal One - Semi Automated Garbage Collection

- After Waste Expo, Alex and I were heading to Oregon to spend a week there and on the way I knew we had to stop here and at least make an attempt to film these trucks. Having no clue if they had any of these left or not, it was a shot in the dark. Turns out they have this late 1996 Peterbilt 320 Maxon still running residential as well as a 310 Maxon. That truck however had a mount for the fork cylinder sheer off that morning so it was out of service for the day before we could go find it. Their newer trucks consist of one or two second-hand Peterbilt 320 Heil front loader with a Curotto Can, a 320 STS FL and a Heil retriever. I wasn't able to see what else they may have ran.
And if you are paying close attention (especially in the first clip) you''ll notice that this truck does actually have a manual transmission. Hearing it run through the gears was pretty neat since that's not something you often hear from a garbage truck, much less a residential front loader. Overall a visually appealing truck to look at and a great sound to go with it. The custom carry can is also pretty sweet too
Huge thanks to an awesome crew who gives me the impression that this company overall is just a real friendly environment to work. The helper you see through most of the video appeared to have been being trained, likely one of his first few days on the truck so please, no rude comments.

Great great catch. That Peterbilt is awesome revving for everything then with its transmission and all. Plus that cool carry can with the tipper was very entertaining to watch. If that young guy was training he was doing a good job and it looks like he picked a good company to do it with. Those 2 other guys seemed very laid back and helpful. I wonder if they also do commercial waste with that truck? Good work with the video brother thanks.
Maybe you guys will be able to capture the Maxon sometime too.

Wow awesome vid Mike! I absolutely love this truck! Got a nice throaty growl from that engine! Cummins L10, right? Do you know what transmission it has? What company is this? That guy who was training did an outstanding job! Please get this truck again, along with the 310 Maxon! I wonder if that truck has a mean growl to it?

amazing truck! Great find, too bad the 310 was down. This one Is pretty badass too, love the growls of it! Manual transmission is cool too! Pretty cool to see guys riding the fork holes. Doesn't really make sense to have two helpers on a route like this. Carry can is pretty interesting, don't really see too many tippers on the front, and you never see a tipper like this one on a carry can. That helper looks exactly like me too! Kinda freaky lol. How far is this from Vegas? I might be attending the Waste Expo next year, so I'd like to possibly film in cities nearby. Did you get any other footage from this company or any others in Vegas? Much enjoyed, great video!
The classic east coast resi rear load paradigm (3 man crew, manual trans) applied to front load, and a Legal One at that. Coolest damn truck ever. Sounds great, a healthy amount of smoke, and painted a proper hue of garbage truck orange. Just imagine a brand new version of this with the newest 320 grille and a nice FF Gomez body. Amazing catch and great vid.
1996 garbage truck with manual sounds strange.. but this video makes it sound awesome. I love the belching smoke and the awesome sound. I enjoyed it when he revved it while tipping. Also nice to see a 3 man crew, made the process faster.
Something I love about all the videos from up your way is that you guys always manage to find something different; the variety is always there to keep the entertainment flowing =] This truck and system combined is awesome! Love the full on orange colour, with that little bit of faded appearance for that old truck look, then that bit of chugging smoke from the exhaust and you can't go past that awesome old diesel growling roar. It's twice as awesome with the manual gearbox, indeed not something common for this garbage application - loved hearing it get through the gears, made for a sweet intro. Now to the general collection system, awesome seeing a big heavy duty truck like an FL emptying household carts, let alone into a carry can with a tipper... and offsiders riding on that carry can. Still reckon that's awesome where the steps are on the can itself and the fact loaders can ride an FL haha Guys down here would trip out if they saw this kind of stuff... would make for some good screwing around lifting your runners up and down while you're driving along lol In fact I totally forgot I was watching an FL, saw 2:43 came as a bit of a shock when he starting dumping :P I noticed the dump cycle wasn't anything overly quick with this truck, but saying that it allowed plenty of time to take in all the action and prolong that awesome enjoyable revving. Definitely refreshing seeing residential work like this instead of another ASL or an RL doing the job, keeps it interesting for sure. Just when I was thinking all this video was missing was some manual for the proper old school scene... there were two manual bins halfway through the video! Bravo to their front door service, getting the carts right off the street for a nicer look I guess, a local service going out of their way. Would this normally be a two man crew, given the exception that young bloke was being trained up? If it's normally three, I'm sure none of them go home tired hehe

Little odd that the bucket has custom handholds, but no step... lol.
I know it’s a little late to comment but never scene a helper riding on a front load bucket don’t seem safe I know wear I work they would never allow this lol
Lol you’re not Old school that’s why it used to be done everywhere we still do it in some places out in Cali
