  • I have a large number of petrol powered garden machine tools and rather than destroying them with ethanol based fuel I remove the ethanol from the fuel before I use it. You should Not do this for a vehicle you intend to use on a public highway.

    Nice lab. You may want to be extra careful with gasoline or ethanol around switches, panel markings, controls, etc. It will destroy most of them. Even vapors will cause fogging of plastics that are so inclined.

    What Additives do you put in for anti-knocking or even lubrication can you discuss that

    Why not drain generators of water and the ethanol would be sticking with the drain water.

    Removing the ethanol also drops the octane rating, which leads me to realize they are just adding ethanol to 87 octane to get the 92/93 rating of “super”.

    Very interesting, i wonder if distilled water would be better or worse.
    An upside down demijohn with a tap in the cork could help decant the rubbish out of it.
    The ethanol/water volume will be small in comparison to the petrol so the vaccume should not get high enough to stop the bottom rubbish being decanted.
    Sorry typing while thinking lol.

      I normally use a 5 gallon container with a tap at the bottom and then drain off the 'water' by opening the tap. The video was really just to show the process. You can of course recycle the 'water' to avoid losing any of the fuel. You can use distilled water if you prefer but as the water is not retained it makes little difference.

    I know unit conversions can be tough, but when portioning alcohol here in the states Friday is always closer to the bottom of the bottle (for large measurements, sometimes even early Saturday). Sharp of you not to include Sunday though - that is illegal in many counties across the southeast.

    Hej from an ex pat. what anti knock addatives do you have to add back into the petrol to use in the car ? Also can i use the ethanol in my home burner to heat my home ? Thanx

    Clever way to avoid unit conversion. Now, can you do it for gasoline instead of petrol? 😁😁😁

      Gasoline is so cheap compared to petrol that it is not worth the effort :)

      @@JerryWalker001 Very clever process, however, Mar 24, 2022, I'm paying $5 USD for gasoline per gallon, expected to be $11 by end of May so I heard. Will do this process to store the gas adding an additive to preserve it longer and a bit of octane booster. Thank you

      @@pedromartinez1165 You are lucky, Fuel has been the equivalent of around $11 per gallon here for decades and the price is rising at the same rate as gas in the US so we will be at $20.00 per gallon by mid year.

    I had to watch this twice to get my head around the day measurements, and I still don’t understand why there are two Fridays 🤷‍♂️ but anyway, I think I get the gist. Yes this is useful, I’ll give it a go, thanks 🙂

      The measurements can be ignored as they are not important (They are just a bit of humour and I did not want to confuse things with figures). It is more the process I was trying to describe.

    What is your ratio? About 10% water added?

    • @Snakebloke
      @Snakebloke 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Supposedly, according to what I've read elsewhere, you need double the ethanol volume, in water.
      DO NOT TAKE THIS AS ADVICE
      100 litres of 10% ethanol, would make about 10 litres of ethanol, so you'd need to add 20 litres of water and let it sit for 24h at least.
      I'm not an expert and I know very little about this, so do with that information as you will, at your own risk 😂

    Any additives needed for 2 stroke engines, generators etc after alcohol is removed?

    • @JerryWalker001
      @JerryWalker001  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You use it just like normal fuel so for a 2 stroke it needs oil. For older 4 stroke engines it needs the same additives that would normally be used to increase the octane etc but less than when the ethanol is there.. The process in this video only removes the harmful ethanol. It is also worth nothing that ethanol has very little energy so 1 gallon of ethanol free fuel will get further than 1 gallon of ethanol fuel which is another reason why adding ethanol is so pointless.

    The exact opposite process we would use 30 years ago to remove water from gasoline or at least check for water contamination.
    Take 100 mL of petrol and add 100% pure dry alcohol shake it up let it sit and read the extra percentage the next morning to prove that the gasoline was saturated with water
    Used to work at Honda back in the days of carburetors they had itthree port carburetor that was extremely sensitive to excessive water continent in gasoline and this is how we proved it was contaminated gas.
    Back in the days where they never even dreamed of adding alcohol to gasoline

    • @JerryWalker001

      In the medical industry alcohol is used to remove water from tissue as the first step of an embedding process. This general technique is used very widely but adding ethanol to fuel will never end well.

    Why can’t you in vehicle if no ethanol that makes no sense. Unless it’s the food coloring
