Also have to pay my respects to director William Friedkin who just recently passed away and who brought a documentary style realism that had not been seen in horror movies at that time. RIP.
That scene that you're talking about ,,, near the beginning her possession when she was flopping around. Scared the living daylights out of me also. It's the scariest scene in the whole movie in my opinion.
I agree. I saw this movie in the theater back in 1973 (the first hour of it anyway lol) and I was too young to be there. Back then, we had never seen anything like this. Eventually, I did go back and make it through the film, but "The Sow is Mine" scene was enough for me to bail out on my first attempt lol. Thanks for watching and commenting.

I think it shows how conditioned we are today to violence, swearing, sexual content compared to 1973 when they found these things in the Exorcist shocking. Today those things are quite normal. Watch out for the 2023 remake.

The Exorcist seemed to open a portal of tolerance to what you accurately describe here, and it has certainly worsened. Physical violence is rampant.

It's never explained why Dennings was killed, it's a bit of hole in the story. Other characters who had more interaction with Regan were spared.
