And thank YOU for bringing these stories home,Mr. Larry--I`ve listened to hundreds of Nam vet interviews and am so glad to have come across yours....you are definitely among the best at doing this and we`re lucky to have the opportunity to hear these stories now, before these men leave us...My father was a submariner during the war and I miss him everyday...again,thank you....

Not a very good interviewer. Too much leading, questions of minutia that don't matter and wrong assumptions. Not listening well. Should let the man have a chance to tell his own story his own way. When vets listen to buddies' stories, that's how we do it. When one is just answering questions, thoughts and personal points don't come out as much.

@@morganlewis2667 I'll agree with some of your comments. I'll never be Larry Cappetto or the guy from the American Veterans Center channel for sure. This was my first time interviewing someone and Davids first interview. We were both really nervous. The most important thing for me was that David was comfortable.
To some of your comments; Questions of minutia and allowing David to tell his story in his own way. I don't know what kind of questions anyone was expecting, but I wasn't going to ask any questions about the brutality of war. David and I went over the questions prior to the interview. Like I said, I wanted him to be comfortable and not be blind sided by anything I was going to ask. He had the right to refuse any question I had. He felt alright and didn't refuse any. I told him that I would ask a question and he could answer and take as long as he wanted and go in any direction he wanted to go. I feel that he did that and told the story he wanted to tell.
Not listening well. I will say that the interview was harder than I expected. Trying to listen, maybe taking a note or two, asking a question from something David said while at the same time monitoring audio, lighting and video equipment, making sure the levels were good and preparing for the next question. I was multi tasking on several levels. Add to that being nervous as this was my first time doing this and yeah, it was harder than I thought.
The most important for me, is that David is happy with what we did. This was a big deal for him. It took a lot for him to sit in front of my camera knowing that I had never interviewed anyone. He trusted me and I think we did alright together.
I hope you enjoyed some of the video. Thank you for your comment and for watching, sir.

Thank you sir for your service to our country especially at such a young age and for sharing your story, your experience in the service in Vietnam. After all of these years one can see the impact that your time there still has on you…let us never forget any of the veterans, those still with us and those who lost their lives…giving the ultimate sacrifice…they who have so courageously served our nation need the very best in care that can be offered and most of all our deep gratitude and respect for their courage. Very impactful interview…thanks Tom for sharing his story with us…beseeching us to remember or to learn from those who were there how it changed their lives forever. We’re deeply grateful. Proud of you for doing this…❤🙏🏼

We all probably know a Vietnam vet that could be interviewed who has some amazing stories to tell. I know of one from Hawaii. A full blooded Hawaiian named Roger Kepo who served with the 5th marines and has 27 confirmed kills. He spent nearly his entire tour in the field. He told me a couple of hair raising stories I'll never forget. I was surprised to find out that a large majority of Vietnam vets actually saw no combat at all. That's the reason the Vietnamese called the U.S. forces 'a tiger with a long tail'. My thanks to all vets who served.

My brother was a radio man in the Marines in 1968 his whole platoon got wiped out when they were overrun he was the only serviver he had to throw one of his dead buddies over the top of him so the nva didn't see him took him 4 days before another unit found him.

He’s talking about the Happy Heaven Leprosarium and they got wiped out there
I was with Mike company 3/1 and we followed them in
They hadn’t patrolled at and just partied. Their platoon at one out post maybe 1 guy out of 30 survived
    They tunneled under their wire
We dug trenches and proper wire and patrolled
For my first 25:55 Purple Heart there on 4th of July ‘69

I remember that one guy survived the attack being buried in his bunker, Sob it was him
We went out there days later and they had tunneled under the wire
There company commander was replaced and we sent volunteers to head squads of new replacements. K company got wiped out several times in my tour of 1969
They had just partied and did not patrol

Noncoms are the same the world over - they disparage those who where in the thick of it because they have no personal skin in that "game". You never know who is who until the heat comes down. I had 7 relatives in World War II. When they came home, they were welcomed. What became of soldiers from Nam is a disgrace, all around this world. If and when you meet a Veteran, for the Love of God thank them for their service.

I thanked him for his service and we had a quick conversation. I gave him my number and a week later he called. He and his wife are super nice people. Thanks for watching and for the comment.
