My sister makes avocado toast at home and puts bacon, cheese and even fried eggs on it. It’s super affordable this way. You only need about $5 and you’ll be able to have it 6 times
Great list! Unique list, compared to others on youtube. All recommendations make sense. And remember, every $500 spent to help build a well for a village in Zimbabwe will provide drinking & sanitation water for 250 people, permanently.
I'm personally not a fan of sit down restaurants; the *bill adds up so quickly* especially with the appetizer and dessert. Sure we go for special events, but I can't justify going on a weekly basis. Overall great list.
Love it all but I've saved a lot on extended warranties.. seems like all the appliances etc are made to fall apart within just 1 year.. but I love all the other tips
Also! If you rent a storage space, car, truck, always deny the insurance. I worked at a storage company for two years. We were told that we had to sell the insurance to customers to “protect their belongings”. The insurance was a subliterary of the storage company itself. It was 100% profit for the storage company.
We only order water with our meals at restaurants, but we have also started carrying water bottles with us on trips. That way, when we stop at a gas station to fill up, we are not tempted to get a soda. Also, all of the gas stations that we have asked have allowed us to fill up our cups with ice water from their drink stations for free :)
I noticed that when I pay phone in cash up front instead of doing the monthly payments, I tend to keep the phone for a long time. I have a galaxy note 8 that I bought new when it came out and am still using it, still runs fine, won't upgrade till this one goes dead.
slhines7 that’s like saying going to jail for committing a crime is a ripoff. If you try to spend money you don’t have in your account, there should be a penalty for it
I agreed on getting new phones. I have a LG and I've been using it for almost 2 years. Meanwhile, other phones has come out with a 7 or 8. I'm lucky my LG is still staying strong. You don't need to get a $800 phone.
I need to address the AVOCADO TOAST. I am of Peruvian decent. Avocado toast is what we eat on the daily. Carts go by on the streets of Peru, ringing a bell, selling the most delicious ripe avocados. They’re cheap and healthy. Here in the States, my mom fed our family this all the time. I feel like I’m watching everyone being taken advantage of when they pay 💰 for this cheap and simple meal. My thing with restaurants - I only order food I don’t cook at home. I love to cook and prefer my homemade recipes to restaurant food. BUT I don’t make the best Japanese food, so on the rare occasion I do dine out, I prefer to go outside my repertoire.
Susan Freeland I’m Peruvian too we grew up with avocado toast it was one of my cravings when I was pregnant when it wasn’t popular at work people would look at me weird lol 😂
Ok I understand not buying the extended warranty for the typical household. However, I was so glad that I had the warranty on a MacBook Pro when my autistic son put it along with his iPad, DVD player & all our DVD’s in the bathtub and flooded the bathroom 😣. All of the electronics were turned on when he did it. The babysitter felt horrible
Chili's has really upped their game on driving the bill up at their restaurants. They have a great little marketing scheme that seemingly gives out pretty good discounts, buy one get one offers, kids eat free type of discounts. Yet, by the time my family of 4 leaves the restaurant, it's a $30+ dinner. That's not a lot in the grand scheme of things but for someone who is trying to budget and feel like I'm winning with food coupons / discounts Chili's leaves me feeling used by the end of dinner. So...careful with Chilis
Credit cards can benefit you. I got groceries as my cash back reward last year (by choice). The key to credit cards is not to max your card out and set a budget on it. Use it for utilities or things that you would pay anyway if you had the cash. No spontaneous spending. Set a limit for yourself and always pay off the bill every month. It requires discipline and focus. Because of a credit card my bills are paid on time and I don't get charged late fees, because I got paid late and missed my utilities bill due date. Lastly, you only need one. Shop around for the one with the best interest rate and application of the interest on late payments/non payment because sometimes things happen and also find one with a great cash back system.
Previously spent so much money on coffee but for the past year I have been really good about making my own coffee at home every morning! Saving so much $$ Also canceled monthly subscriptions :)
I never thought people fell for the extended warranty things but... I recently watched someone in front of me spend $3 for an extended warranty on a $25 item. No I'm not joking or exaggerating. It was all I could do to keep my mouth shut.
I bought a top of the line Maytag washer a few years ago. I did not get the extended warranty. The washer's electrical panel died when the washer was 18 months old! A washer that only did laundry for one person. It cost more to fix the washer than to buy a new one. I now buy extended warranties on some appliances. I also don't buy Maytag or any top of the line appliances. I try to buy American made appliances with the bells and whistle's I would use but not the top on the line.
Went to Kroger a day ago and while putting gas in my car I realized I didn't have a 10 cents off per gallon. I had mixed feelings! Disappointment at first, but then realized I have not been wasting money on vegetables which get mold in the fridge or dry food cluttering up my cabinets...im getting better😀 at buying what I need vs. what I think I might want to eat...and never do.
Basically, don't spend money you do not have. Overdraft, paying credit card interest only... those are money you technically do not have. Suggesting appetizers mean that you are eating out a lot. Lessen the eating out. Do more cooking at home. Eat out only during special occasions and if you must have an appetizer for that special occasion dinner, then make it to share :). In Europe, we only round off the bill (less than 5%), so no excessive tipping. To be aware of what you're spending is a change in lifestyle and priorities. It doesn't happen overnight. You need to have a drive, a reason, a plan, a goal.
Although the extended warranty on your vehicle is a good deal. My dealership had a full lifetime warranty they sold for like $2500 when I bought my car. Which most people they think they never will use it cause they will get rid of their cars. But people like me who keep the car for ever they loose. I have already gotten way over the $2,500 in services free because I bought it. And my car is still great condition and I’ll keep it probably another 10 years and keep using their warranty.
AT&T wouldn't let me exchange an LG phone ihe following day due to poor speaker now I am done after being a customer for 16 years. No customer service or loyalty. Please do a segment on how to save on cell phone service.
Buy phones that work on multiple carriers so you can switch whenever you want. As an AT&T customer, you can probably switch to a T-Mobile based carrier like Ting or T-Mobile itself. T-Mobile has a prepaid plan with 100 minutes and unlimited text and data for $30 out the door. Google Fi is a great option if you have or can buy a phone that works on the network. $20 plus $1 for each 100 MB used. It uses T-Mobile and Sprint simultaneously.
Annette DeMary same happened to us and we were customers for 17 years. We switched to xfinity mobile. We pay 7.50/month for the phone and 12/gig of data monthly. Unlimited is like 45. We love it.
I'd say: - Non-essential Insurance - Eating out - Any designer/brand items - new cars - anything from Starbucks _ Subscriptions to - magazines - streaming services and other - online services
Credit cards are convenient but carrying a balance from month to month is a waste of money, pay your credit card off and if you charge so much you can’t pay it off when the statement arrives then You Can’t Afford It. Pay off your credit cards!
Several years ago I read that Best Buy made most of their profits by selling protection plans/extended warranties. After I'd read that, I haven't bought that garbage since.
Recently my husband bought a 'new to us' car that was 2 years old. We didn't get the warranty and the salesman was horrified!! Well...that was after how upset he was after finding out we were paying cash for the car lol
We have used our extended warranty on our kitchen appliances so many times it’s crazy. We never skip the extended warranty on those items any more. TVs we do not.
Amen ! and No Thank You to the door-to-door solicitation. i’ve even said no to the parent/dad who followed the kid onto the top of my driveway to ask again for me to buy his sons coupon book after i gently told the sweet little boy no thanks.
Going out to eat is a minefield. Cocktails $$, appetizers $$, desserts $$. So much temptation. If you have a problem with temptation, don’t go to restaurants.
Each time I purchase a pre-owned luxury vehicle, I purchase an extended warranty. And each time it has paid for itself. I don't do many of the things that you've mentioned here; I don't even drink or smoke. As s result, I'm freely able to secure around $800-$900 monthly, into a savings account.
Actually, I go to restaurants by myself and check out the appetizers for "healthy" ones. Then I order 1 or 2 of them instead of an entree. Often, I can still take some home.
I love you but you can't tell people from Washington not to go out for coffee. It just doesn't work! Your so great love your personality your so fun to watch!!! Keep doing you. (And I'll do me with my fancy coffee)
Thanks for the great video! I actually make tastier (and WAY less expensive) lattes than that place with the green and white logo. They are so easy! Strong coffee, caramel or hazelnut syrup from the store and frothy milk (little whisks are awesome). Boom! Saved $4.00 right there.
For the little guy from the band: "I don't buy things from fundraisers, but I'd love to make a donation! Can I make a check out to your school with your name and trip on the subject line?" Most of the time, half of that coupon book cost doesn't go to the band, so you can save 50% by just making a donation!
I don't have a gym membership, I have chickens-rabbits-cats a yard to care for and a garden. I don't buy pop I can get 100 bags of good green tea for the same price, lasts longer. I don't eat out, I take my lunch with to town shopping or errand days. I don't make extra trips to town, it's30 miles round trip NO waste. No tv, only have Netflix on the computer and use it most nights.I have a basic phone not into bell and whistles. I think I do good.
I never order appetizers or deserts, I cant eat all that food is either or but I do love going out for a drink like once a week or twice, lol I never buy the latest phone, i buy the cheapest one which gives me the best service.
Avocado Toast comes in at #8... that is hilarious! We have some millennials watching. I'm 50 and we started making our own at home. LOTS of avocados every week.
I always ask the little band kid how much money that they make from the coupon books (it’s usually 50% around here) and just make the donation to the kid. So if the coupon book is $20 I give him $10.
Number nine ... totally agree! I’m still on the six (regular, not Plus) for almost three years ...still works, so why upgrade? P.S. I’m 46 ... maybe that has something to do with it?
Here's another tip: Log into your PayPal account and look under pre-approved payments. You might be surprised at how many online monthly subscriptions you forgot to cancel.
They have extended warranties on toys. really toys they are going to play with for 1 week if I am lucky. no I am not paying 9.99 for a year warranty. amazing.
Daily Starbucks coffee... paying bank interest (go to the people's Credit Union). I REFUSE to pay a bank to keep MY money in MY savings account - I mean get real!
I will have to disagree on the coffee thing, now I do make good money but I also work a lot, and going to Starbucks is an experience not just the coffee itself, the Keurig Starbucks is okay but it doesn't beat going to Starbucks getting my cinnamon dolce latte and a sausage sandwich....I don't go on vacation very often That's like a little vacation for me, and if I have to spend $10 every morning for it, I will...
idk if its just me but i rather buy an appetizer and just eat that rather than a full meal. just saying, its cheaper you get it quicker and you're not waiting there filling up on bread or lots more drinks.
I'd add not just baby clothes but clothes in general adults and kids. There's local d.a.v thrift stores ( disabled veterans) and the proceeds go to them and we get discounted clothes toys household items etc. Another tip - avoid anything that says "for just 1$ more you can...." 1$ here 3$ there really adds up. 😃
You left out the Big Three, lottery tickets, tobacco, and alcohol. Wasteful, expensive, and unnecessary.
"I'll be praying for your trip..." LOL Love it!
You are just adorable! I love that you admit your own mistakes too! Great video!! 😊
I usually get the appetizer as my meal, they are usually cheaper than the entrees.
layman75 I've done that. Add a salad and it's a meal.
And it just as filling. And drinks are a killer.
I cook most all my meals, I don't go out.
Genius. Who can eat that much food anyway?
I will have paid off all my credit card debt by July. Then we will pay down our 15 year 🏡 mortgage.
Rachel communicates so much like her father - it's awesome!
My sister makes avocado toast at home and puts bacon, cheese and even fried eggs on it. It’s super affordable this way. You only need about $5 and you’ll be able to have it 6 times
Sound advice. The only thing I ever buy warranty on is tires from discount tire. I've lost count of how many times I've used it.
Great list! Unique list, compared to others on youtube. All recommendations make sense. And remember, every $500 spent to help build a well for a village in Zimbabwe will provide drinking & sanitation water for 250 people, permanently.

Monthly and overdraft fees are one of the *biggest* *RIPOFFS* .
slhines7 that’s like saying going to jail for committing a crime is a ripoff. If you try to spend money you don’t have in your account, there should be a penalty for it
Okay then, monthly fees bank are the biggest *RIPOFF*
InDatParish one shouldn’t blame the bank for that lol. I’ve heard it multiple times, but one agrees to it
Love your personality. Great post...i used to do all of these until I started following your father's plan. Now, I do all that you suggest!
Elizabeth Salih i
I agree! Dave has a great plan and Rachel makes the money stuff feel more fun!
I agreed on getting new phones. I have a LG and I've been using it for almost 2 years. Meanwhile, other phones has come out with a 7 or 8. I'm lucky my LG is still staying strong. You don't need to get a $800 phone.

I still have a iPhone 5s I am keeping it until it dies!!
Nicole Brasel I still have iPhone 6 lol FYI my name is nicole too! High five ✋🏼🙌🏼

You are correct about coffee buying..adds up to approximately 600 a year per household.
Credit cards can benefit you. I got groceries as my cash back reward last year (by choice). The key to credit cards is not to max your card out and set a budget on it. OMG, I'm so cheap that I don't do any of these.
greyhk2 wish I could relate 😅
Lol same. 😂
Same. But I am happy I'm that way lol
Great tips, thanks Rachel! A couple of these things I’d gotten lax about, gotta fine tune my spending a little.

Annette DeMary go with a provider like straight talk. Way cheaper and the price never changes and you get unlimited everything

T-Mobile doesn't work in our area. We only have versions or Att.
Hey, Rachel thanks for updating our brains for this year. Yessss 👏 great video.
I'd say:
- Non-essential Insurance
- Eating out
- Any designer/brand items
- new cars
- anything from Starbucks
_ Subscriptions to
- magazines
- streaming services and other
- online services
Do you know how much I love that avocado toast made the list.😍
Credit cards are convenient but carrying a balance from month to month is a waste of money, pay your credit card off and if you charge so much you can’t pay it off when the statement arrives then You Can’t Afford It. Pay off your credit cards!

Avocado toast!!!! I love it!!! And I love your expressions!
Yummmmm avocado toast! I’ve never had it at a restaurant before, only made it myself!
Kylie Eats I wanna know where you can get an avocado for 64 cents
We have used our extended warranty on our kitchen appliances so many times it’s crazy. We never skip the extended warranty on those items any more. TVs we do not.
Great video as always, Rachel.
Awesome tips 👏👏👏
Every dollar app is not available in some countries (West Africa)Please address it.Thanks
Amen ! and No Thank You to the door-to-door solicitation. i’ve even said no to the parent/dad who followed the kid onto the top of my driveway to ask again for me to buy his sons coupon book after i gently told the sweet little boy no thanks.
Nothing is free. NOTHING. Even if you get something without paying for it, I promise you, someone, somewhere, somehow paid for it.
Not being born is free though.
Sane thing with "free" college. It's not free
I love appetizers!!! But you're right...and much prettier than your Dad. Love him, too, though. You're both amazing.
K Manwarren - some restaurants will bring a free appetizer - just have to ask if they offer one!
I love your sweater!! Where is it from?
Laura Beverley it from the 70s 😀
When is every dollar going to be available in Ireland you could call it Every Euro 🤣
There is a website that is called exactly like that and it's Dave Ramsey plan for UK&Ireland.
I agree with most of those except for the food ones. Drinks other than water at a restuarant are a waste of money to.
Yup. The only time I'll get a drink at a restaurant is when my company pays for it.
For the little guy from the band: "I don't buy things from fundraisers, but I'd love to make a donation! Can I make a check out to your school with your name and trip on the subject line?" Most of the time, half of that coupon book cost doesn't go to the band, so you can save 50% by just making a donation!
Agree!
Just gave my wife a fist bump because none of those applied to us. :-D
How are you not using Hulu?? Best streaming service ever!
I knew the coffee trip would be on there.
I’ll subscribe once Rachel releases an avocado toast recipe
I don't have a gym membership, I have chickens-rabbits-cats a yard to care for and a garden. I don't buy pop I can get 100 bags of good green tea for the same price, lasts longer. I don't eat out, I take my lunch with to town shopping or errand days. I don't make extra trips to town, it's30 miles round trip NO waste. No tv, only have Netflix on the computer and use it most nights.I have a basic phone not into bell and whistles. I think I do good.
How about just getting appetizers. I like them better than entrees anyway. :-)
The Frugal Five i do that. I can never finish a huge entree as it is. Trying to finish the leftovers the next day doesnt help lol
Me too. We don't go out that much. So sometimes this is my one spurge.
OH my gosh, this is HILARIOUS!!
I never order appetizers or deserts, I cant eat all that food is either or but I do love going out for a drink like once a week or twice, lol I never buy the latest phone, i buy the cheapest one which gives me the best service.
just for saying Avacado toast, I am subscribing.
Same!
Great advice. My GF "always" orders an appetizer and eats one freaking bite of it and wants me to finish it. It drives me nuts.
Could you make every dollar available to australian itunes
can you guys make the every dollar app for the UK and other countries too? it's only available if you live in America :(
Number nine ... totally agree! I’m still on the six (regular, not Plus) for almost three years ...still works, so why upgrade? P.S. I’m 46 ... maybe that has something to do with it?
Great ones! I want some Avocado Toast. :)
Here's another tip: Log into your PayPal account and look under pre-approved payments. You might be surprised at how many online monthly subscriptions you forgot to cancel.
Even better to only order the appetizers and skip the expensive meals entirely if the appetizers are filling enough.
They have extended warranties on toys. really toys they are going to play with for 1 week if I am lucky. no I am not paying 9.99 for a year warranty. amazing.
Love the sweater!! Great tips!
Daily Starbucks coffee... paying bank interest (go to the people's Credit Union). I REFUSE to pay a bank to keep MY money in MY savings account - I mean get real!
Please support the band kids!!
psst....coupon books save money at restaurants!
Sincerely,
A Band Mom.
Great video Rachel
33 billion on overdraft fees. But how much is spent on credit card interest a year to the banks?
I still have my iPhone 6 for like 3 years
I will have to disagree on the coffee thing, now I do make good money but I also work a lot, and going to Starbucks is an experience not just the coffee itself, the Keurig Starbucks is okay but it doesn't beat going to Starbucks getting my cinnamon dolce latte and a sausage sandwich....I don't go on vacation very often That's like a little vacation for me, and if I have to spend $10 every morning for it, I will...
Avocados are so expensive they’re not even part of the GROCERY budget!
Just looks for the Dollar’cados. They’re out there!
You just gotta do it. I had my fight about it lol. The health benefits outweigh the sacrifices to keep them in, so....yeah, avocado toast!!!! Lol
idk if its just me but i rather buy an appetizer and just eat that rather than a full meal. just saying, its cheaper you get it quicker and you're not waiting there filling up on bread or lots more drinks.
Interest! Makes me cringe too!! Can’t wait to get going on paying off the house- we start this month making extra payments.
The aprtizier thing. I get lucky some how. The meal is free plus with Conpom 2 dollars profit. 10 from the free meal + 2 from conpom = 12
Never even heard of avocado toast. Isn't that just part of "avoid appetizers" bit?
Avocado toast!!!!! Hilarious, but SO TRUE! I
“Winston Cruze is frothing just own milk,,,”, say what, player?! Is dat a euphemism, dawg? 😅🙋🏻♂️
Overdraft fees
Credit Card Interest
Appetizers
Daily trips to a coffee shop
I only have a $1000 credit card, and I'll pay it out this summer ;)
Awesome video !
every dollar app. not available in asia?.
I say the same thing about the warranty and the TV haha
I'd add not just baby clothes but clothes in general adults and kids. There's local d.a.v thrift stores ( disabled veterans) and the proceeds go to them and we get discounted clothes toys household items etc. Another tip - avoid anything that says "for just 1$ more you can...." 1$ here 3$ there really adds up. 😃
The only thing I use Groupon for is a $30 massage like twice a year.
