Hello David, thank you for this video. During my deployment to Iraq (Royal Danish Army), when we where in "Tent City", the temporary camp when teams overlapped, we used the British bathing facilities. Hot, sorry warm, sorry lukewarm, sorry not-too-cold, sorry that-or-nothing clean, sorry dont-drink-the-water was rationed so we learned how to have a 90 second shower: 30 seconds to wash off the dirt, 30 seconds to soap in and clean yourself and 30 seconds to wash it all out. When we moved into Camp Danevang a three minute shower felt like ages and pure luxury 😀 I imagine that filling that bag and laying it out in the Iraqi sun (We measured 65c in august) for just a few minutes would be a huge bonus for us. But hey, since it was light, functional, usefull and packed down to practically nothing we wasn issued it... We had issued Scandinavian/Danish winter sleepingbag for those 30c+ Iraqi nights... yay.....
I have been living in Ghana for about 4 months, i'm going to be here for another 5 months at least. I've lost count of the number of times I have had to use a bucket and sponge to 'shower' with. This looks like something I could really use - thanks for the review!
I’ve used the pocket shower out in the wilderness in Montana and it works great. I use my Jetboil to heat up my water fast and have a nice hot shower out on the trail
I've used this in Africa, Asia, and south America and would recommend using two s-biners- or small carabiners to clip the cord onto and off of the D-Rings. Makes for a much easier setup. In colder climates you can fill 3/4 with cold water and then heat a liter or two on your cook stove. Just don't over heat!!! I now keep one in my Motorcycle box where ever I go.

Snap a ballon over the outlet and sawyer filter on the other end, instant gravity water filter. Emergency dry back. Emergency floatation device. You could just start off as a dry bag in your pack and once camp is setup use as a shower or gravity filter system. I'm going to get one and see what else I could use it for.
hulahoop with a shower curtain (poncho) works as a screen... basically bring shower curtain loops to rig your poncho up to a couple lashed twigs (or wire coat hangers) and suspend them. if you can get a pallet to stand on then you're really set.
i use this shower all the time when we do rustic camping along a river in WI and have used it for about 5 summers now with hardly any problems. It works GREAT! we can get it shower height easily if one person holds the bag while the other tosses the line over a good branch and pull strung while the other lifts the bag, also no need to tie knots, you just give it a fee quick wraps around a broken tree branch nub thay most trees have on them. We found that if we add some cold water first and then add hot water off the fire we can have a hot shower anytime we want, also if wet up and then shut off during scrubbing you can get two people clean with one fill up. I would highly recommend this product and it fills wonderful to go to bed without layers of bug dope and sunscreen on me. I probably wouldnt take it backpacking since i wouldnt care what i smelled like out there, but for the 4 day trips we take where i can pack more gear i love it.

I am going to get this because I have the coleman and it is too big and bulky. I have used the solar shower where there is camping without electricity, but water is supplied. Plus often there are streams out in the wilderness to supply water. It also I nice thing to have when you want to give your dog a shower without spraying her down with cold water from the hose. Lastly, whatever solar shower you use, be mindful of the water temperature, as it can get too hot!
I think I am going to invest in one of these. There was a time when I was in Iraq and my unit did not get to bathe for 52 days. When I finally got to shower I remember that for like 2 hours the water running off of me looked like chocolate milk. It took a while to get all the dirt out, but the ability to take a shower was still a good morale booster. To me, having the ability to boost morale and help stay clean is worth the added weight of this gear. It also appears as if there are a few added survival applications of this that make it worth having as well. Thanks for another great gear review brother. I enjoy watching and learning from them.
Works great as a backwoods laundry machine too. Just fill it with water and a little soap and put the clothes in. Let out as much air as you can and shake/scrub it up. Make sure you rinse it well before using it as a shower later

the biggest thing about it is that you're not going to keep this running for 7 minutes, you're going to get yourself wet, wash your hair(and possibly rinse it first and shut off), then wash your body, rinse it and shut it off. you might need half of the water to do all this, especially if you're efficient with your rinsing.
The best route is denture cleansing tablets. Especially if you can leave them for a few hours/overnight. Safe enough for your mouth, safe enough for your kit. It’s what I use for canteens, water bladders and the like. Why pay for Camelbak’s tablets? Efferdent is basically the same.
I know it is up to the number of hours and the sunshine out, but could you give us a rough idea of the water temperature? It is the whole purpose of this product.
So far it's held up well. I don't personally use it much because I just cloth wash when I'm on trips, but it's the only way I can convince my wife to come with me :-) I didn't hang it higher in the video for production/filming reasons, not because I wasn't confident in the product. If you need a camp shower, this is a great option.
Carl Michael - I got an £8 one off amazon, think 5litres it holds. I read some reviews & I think i saw 5litres is a few showers. So would that be more practical for you & your girlfriend? As one that holds too much water would probably take longer to fill, heat up & carry/store, wouldn't it!? Do you know why it says to put some bicarbonate of soda in the bottom & water to rinse it out before use?
This is the best one i've seen so far!!! 7mintues to shower is enough time compared to others ive seen so thats a bonus!! not to mention the built in shower cap is pretty great the other shower kits although very good suck cause you have to buy add ons likes hoses ect this is literally the best for the simple reason it's heated water your going to shower with and everything as a add on you would consider buying is already perfectly built into this system whoever was responsible for this beautiful creation thank you!! I have been looking for something practical and compact like this for a while obviously based on the date of this video but I am a survivalist and this is perfect for my survival pack.
For backpacking, leaving it in the sun for a few HOURS is not practical. I'm going to get one and figure how much cold water to have in the bag before adding heated water to get the perfect temperature quick. Great review.
I wish they would make the showerhead removable so it can be replaced with a hydration line for gravity filters, or simply a plug to turn it into a pail that has the ability to stand upright. It bothers me to be carrying so many water containment devices in a pack. They should modify their ultra-sil pail for this (10L). Nice video.

You could put some cold water in, boil a kettle of water, let kettle water cool a bit, then add that to the cold water you put in there. I read somewhere adding boiled water could melt the bag!

Sorry I couldn't think of a solution to the actual water issue. Suppose you meant couldn't get water!? Well, what about two two litres of bottled water, without fluoride in!? One two litre bottle would prob get you a decent shower, if ya wash quick:) Could tha be a possibility? Bu can bottled water be put in a kettle n boiled!?(My Evian water has some odd ingredients if you look, & I'm saying because I'm concerned what they are)! As I wonder if they'd explode a kettle lol?🤣🙈 So research before you boil bottled waters I mean🥰

I did notice that you could make the shower long if you had too,by washing first water off than rinse probably be a 2 minute shower. With the amount of water saved you could probably a total 3 using shower. Hygiene is important to our state of mine and those your around.Thanks for the video.
If, as some have commented, there may be an issue getting the water heated from the sun alone, would it be possible to put maybe 4 liters of filtered water into it and then another liter (or close to it) from a stove heated pot, which would raise the temp about one fifth of the way between whatever temp it is (that is too cold) and boiling? E.g., if the "too cold" water is say 50 F and boiling is 210 F (round down a little -- it's going to be cooling off quickly after removing from heat) a 160 F difference, it would raise the temp about 32 degrees (160/5), which would make the shower water temp about 82 F = pretty decent (though not 'hot shower at home' warm). Worse scenario: source temp = 33 F you would end up with ~69 F -- about ocean temp at beach in So Cal at the end of summer, for comparison. And, of course you could use less unheated water to begin with, say 3 liters, so that the amount you heat and add would be a bigger proportion overall, and you would still end up with about a 4 minute warm/hot shower. My usual titanium pot & pan/lid combo is 1.1 liter and weighs 6.5 ounces (though I use a .7 liter when going 'super light'). Using the shower bag as a dual purpose dry bag, especially is there are two or more using it for a shower, then makes it pretty reasonable, weight-conscious wise -- one of the other backpackers could carry a different 'luxury' maybe a titanium keurig K-cup coffee maker (lol). Hey, saw a video you made about the Dakota fire hole and heard a concern about pot falling due to logs burning and falling. Just carry a small steel grill so that it stayed above the whole at all times. Regardless of the actions of burning wood below. Nice video.
I have their folding bucket and did a review of it a while back. Love it too for certain purposes. Almost wish they would make a combo item that did both (shower and bucket).
Tip :D having it inside a clear bag with CO2 inside the bag will increase the green house effect while lowering heat lost to wind. Doubles as a solar still if done right. ( might be more difficult with this one)
Great review, you've definitely convinced me to buy one. I was just going to buy a cheap solar shower for £5 but you can't dry the inside of the cheap ones and I didn't even think about the kind of smell it would create after long term use until you said so in this video. I need a solar shower that will last 6 months so it's definitely better to buy a slightly more expensive one that'll last longer. Thanks for the informative review!

Interesting. Not as bad as envisioned. Compared to the 5 gal shower bags, there's a plus with this. While the price is a tad high, it beats that Helio and isn't too badly overpriced.
3 hours in 90deg sun will render that water boiling!! I have had the water be TOO hot, so make sure to check every 10 or 15 minutes until it's a reasonable temp.
Ryan Brooks You should. If there is any threatening bacteria in the water then you are allowing for the possibility of them absorbing through cuts or eyes. Obviously the environment you are in will weigh on your decision
Advisable! Use water purification tablets, or half an ammonia / chlorine bleach tablet tablet . If you're using chlorine, let it sit for about an hour before using to make sure it's ok to use.
I’ve used these kinds of travel showers extensively over ten year continual travel period and they are ok in Warmer climes .. however there is a major weakness in the material used to manufacture the plastic nozzle head .. that is the plastic shower head which is NOT robust and easily cracks/ breaks after some usage. So they need cautious handling and guess what, long periods in the sun heating the bag/water degrades the viability of the plastic shower head and makes it sunweakened and brittle .. who knew?
I had bought the bigger MSR one a few years back. Disappointed... Even if left on the beach in the scorching sun all day, the water would barely be warm. Still cold. In ontarios lakes I believe it's just too cold of water for the sun to do anything. So what I do now is boil a liter of water and add it to 2-3 liters of cold. Gives me a 3-4 minutes hot shower at the expense of a little fuel.
David, first off, nicely done. I have a question, does the shower head screw off? if so can the bag be used as a water holder for a gravity filtering system? I've been looking for a bag that will hold a larger amount of water for this purpose. Thanks.

Open the mind... If it already has a working valve that shuts off... How super easy would it be to make something that simply sinches around the perfectly good valve... It already has EVERYTHING... It is already gravity fed too.
Nice review. It could be used as a drybag for something you normally would unpack and use in camp. Then it would have a higher degree of usability and not only a luxury item. You don't need to pack it into that small back, either... ;-) Maybe add a carabiner to the line. It might be easier to hook it, when fully loaded with water (10 kg) then trying to tie a knot. ;-)
You missed a step...Once you have the bag filled and properly closed; sit the bag on the ground with the shower head pointing up, then open the shower head and press down on the bag to push out all the air so that the inside of the bag is in contact with the water. Then lay the bag out in the sun for about an hour, then hang the bag.
Very nice indeed. I guess I could shower in less than 3 min using 1 gal water when boondocking. 2.5 gal or 10 lt = 7 min. 1 gal = 3 min. Never tried but this could be interesting for boondockers ! What do you think? Thank you so much for the video, good info ! Cheers, Roger.

No doubt Tom. I honestly wouldn't take this on my usual trips, simply because I just sponge bathe and am not a die-hard shower(er) in the woods. :-) It works great though, and I'm thinking it might just be the thing to get my wife in the woods overnight some time this year :-)
This is a good idea if, on a specific day, you are only going to hike for 4 - 6 hours, which would leave another 4 - 6 hours to heat the bag, and you found a large body of water where you can replenish.
Here is the formula when you mix hot water from your stove and cold water: (quantity1 * Temperature1 + quantity2*temperature2) / (quantity1+quantity2) for example if you use 6 Liters of cold water at 15°C, add 2 Liters of 100°C, you will obtain a superb 36,25 °C shower. (1,59 gallons at 59°F + 0,53 gallons at 212°F = a 97°F shower) You can use Excel instead of your stove, but the water may cool faster...
Thanks for weighing in grammes, I have no idea about imperial measurements. Good demo. I think (forgive me if incorrect) that one litre of water weighs a kg roughly so that's a manageable weight to lift up even for me. (4.4 pounds per kg according to a web search). Thanks for the drying tips etc.
Great observation! That was a black squirrel. They are rampant here where I live. I could probably survive off of squirrel meat if my wife would go for it :-) We have 3-4 black walnut trees in our back yard, and they go crazy over them.
Not trying to be negative whatsoever. Just watched the Dakota fire pit video. FYI - Walmart sells literally everything that you use, maybe not the name brand but a variation of all of your tools and equipment. The boy was right.
The problem with these type of showers is that you need a ladder to get the water supply and showerhead high enough - unless you shower sitting down or are 3 ft tall
It seems a little bit stupid to have the shower head connected directly to the bag. Some other shower bugs I've seen have at least a 3 to 4 foot hose you can connect. With this product there's bound to be body parts you can't get all the soap off of and a few hours later you start itching your butt off.

Yea which is perfect if you're more than one person. That way you don't have to wait for the bag to heat twice. :D
I use mouthwash (antibacterial type) to rinse water containers.

I think that's very handy. Most available locally are not very large or bulky, but this one can fit in a small pouch for a very compact kit.

A good thing to do if you have any water holders, even the ones you drink from if you have a spare freezer just put them in there as no mild will grow

Is it watertight when you close it? Like if you lay it in the sun to warm up, isn't the water gonna run out?

I did notice that you could make the shower long if you had too,by washing first water off than rinse probably be a 2 minute shower. With the amount of water saved you could probably a total 3 using shower. Hygiene is important to our state of mine and those your around.Thanks for the video.
If, as some have commented, there may be an issue getting the water heated from the sun alone, would it be possible to put maybe 4 liters of filtered water into it and then another liter (or close to it) from a stove heated pot, which would raise the temp about one fifth of the way between whatever temp it is (that is too cold) and boiling? E.g., if the "too cold" water is say 50 F and boiling is 210 F (round down a little -- it's going to be cooling off quickly after removing from heat) a 160 F difference, it would raise the temp about 32 degrees (160/5), which would make the shower water temp about 82 F = pretty decent (though not 'hot shower at home' warm).
Worse scenario: source temp = 33 F you would end up with ~69 F -- about ocean temp at beach in So Cal at the end of summer, for comparison.
And, of course you could use less unheated water to begin with, say 3 liters, so that the amount you heat and add would be a bigger proportion overall, and you would still end up with about a 4 minute warm/hot shower.
My usual titanium pot & pan/lid combo is 1.1 liter and weighs 6.5 ounces (though I use a .7 liter when going 'super light').
Using the shower bag as a dual purpose dry bag, especially is there are two or more using it for a shower, then makes it pretty reasonable, weight-conscious wise -- one of the other backpackers could carry a different 'luxury' maybe a titanium keurig K-cup coffee maker (lol).

Hey, saw a video you made about the Dakota fire hole and heard a concern about pot falling due to logs burning and falling. Just carry a small steel grill so that it stayed above the whole at all times. Regardless of the actions of burning wood below. Nice video.
I've seen someone update one of these with a metal shower head. Think it was Ray mears, can't seem to find the metal shower head anywhere!
Hope someone combines this with the Scrubba, they look pretty much the same.

having it inside a clear bag with CO2 inside the bag will increase the green house effect while lowering heat lost to wind. Doubles as a solar still if done right. ( might be more difficult with this one)
Great review, you've definitely convinced me to buy one. I was just going to buy a cheap solar shower for £5 but you can't dry the inside of the cheap ones and I didn't even think about the kind of smell it would create after long term use until you said so in this video. I need a solar shower that will last 6 months so it's definitely better to buy a slightly more expensive one that'll last longer. Thanks for the informative review!

I got an £8 solar shower one off amazon. It says to put some bicarbonate of soda in & rinse it out before use. Why is that please? Could it be to prevent a nasty smell occurring, after each use, as the person at top was talking about?

Interesting. Not as bad as envisioned. Compared to the 5 gal shower bags, there's a plus with this. While the price is a tad high, it beats that Helio and isn't too badly overpriced.
3 hours in 90deg sun will render that water boiling!! I have had the water be TOO hot, so make sure to check every 10 or 15 minutes until it's a reasonable temp.

Ryan Brooks You should. If there is any threatening bacteria in the water then you are allowing for the possibility of them absorbing through cuts or eyes. Obviously the environment you are in will weigh on your decision
Advisable! Use water purification tablets, or half an ammonia / chlorine bleach tablet tablet . If you're using chlorine, let it sit for about an hour before using to make sure it's ok to use.
Great review . Just one question. Can this shower be attached to the Wolfwise shower tent ?
I’ve used these kinds of travel showers extensively over ten year continual travel period and they are ok in Warmer climes .. however there is a major weakness in the material used to manufacture the plastic nozzle head .. that is the plastic shower head which is NOT robust and easily cracks/ breaks after some usage. So they need cautious handling and guess what, long periods in the sun heating the bag/water degrades the viability of the plastic shower head and makes it sunweakened and brittle .. who knew?
So can you leave the water in the shower out for a while for the water to get warm in the sun before use?
So how long did it Actually last for minute wise ?, If you came back from Kenya alive that is !!!
I had bought the bigger MSR one a few years back. Disappointed... Even if left on the beach in the scorching sun all day, the water would barely be warm. Still cold. In ontarios lakes I believe it's just too cold of water for the sun to do anything. So what I do now is boil a liter of water and add it to 2-3 liters of cold. Gives me a 3-4 minutes hot shower at the expense of a little fuel.

Nice review. It could be used as a drybag for something you normally would unpack and use in camp. Then it would have a higher degree of usability and not only a luxury item. You don't need to pack it into that small back, either... ;-)
Maybe add a carabiner to the line. It might be easier to hook it, when fully loaded with water (10 kg) then trying to tie a knot. ;-)

You missed a step...Once you have the bag filled and properly closed; sit the bag on the ground with the shower head pointing up, then open the shower head and press down on the bag to push out all the air so that the inside of the bag is in contact with the water. Then lay the bag out in the sun for about an hour, then hang the bag.

2.5 gal or 10 lt = 7 min.
1 gal = 3 min.

No doubt Tom. I honestly wouldn't take this on my usual trips, simply because I just sponge bathe and am not a die-hard shower(er) in the woods. :-) It works great though, and I'm thinking it might just be the thing to get my wife in the woods overnight some time this year :-)

This is a good idea if, on a specific day, you are only going to hike for 4 - 6 hours, which would leave another 4 - 6 hours to heat the bag, and you found a large body of water where you can replenish.

You can't definitely get it hot if you leave it in the sun long enough and if the outside temps aren't too cold.
you could always just boil some water and mix it with cold water and put it in there for a warmer shower during cloudy days, right?

Here is the formula when you mix hot water from your stove and cold water:
(quantity1 * Temperature1 + quantity2*temperature2) / (quantity1+quantity2)
for example if you use 6 Liters of cold water at 15°C, add 2 Liters of 100°C, you will obtain a superb 36,25 °C shower.
(1,59 gallons at 59°F + 0,53 gallons at 212°F = a 97°F shower)
You can use Excel instead of your stove, but the water may cool faster...
Thanks for weighing in grammes, I have no idea about imperial measurements. Good demo. I think (forgive me if incorrect) that one litre of water weighs a kg roughly so that's a manageable weight to lift up even for me. (4.4 pounds per kg according to a web search). Thanks for the drying tips etc.

Great observation! That was a black squirrel. They are rampant here where I live. I could probably survive off of squirrel meat if my wife would go for it :-) We have 3-4 black walnut trees in our back yard, and they go crazy over them.

The problem with these type of showers is that you need a ladder to get the water supply and showerhead high enough - unless you shower sitting down or are 3 ft tall
It seems a little bit stupid to have the shower head connected directly to the bag. Some other shower bugs I've seen have at least a 3 to 4 foot hose you can connect. With this product there's bound to be body parts you can't get all the soap off of and a few hours later you start itching your butt off.
