I am here 10 years later, in 2024. I remember when this came out. It turned my attention to the East when it came to music. I was already into Japanese deejays and beat makers and some hip hop artists like Arata of Living Legends. This track really helped shape my musical senses. This era of music was so dope.
I THINK I FIGURED THIS OUT First bar is a 9/8(3+3+3) bar followed by another 9/8 bar of silence. Then it starts to switch between bars of 6/4(regular counting yay) and 9/8(3+3+3) bars. This happens four times. In the next measure vocals come in, and the pattern of 9/8(3+3+3) switching to 6/4 is repeated four times. This is where something weird happens-metric modulation occurs. The quarter note triplet from the 6/4 measure is now our new beat (this speeds up the tempo by a third) AND IT STARTS A SEVEN BEAT PHRASE! So now we are in a new tempo AND are now in 7/4. there are 12 7/4 bars in this new section before we jump back into the original tempo via a 9/8(3+3+3). then the usual 9/8 6/4 changeover happens again When they start runnin around it's in 11/4. Then a metric modulation happens again, same thing, the beat is now the quarter note triplet from the 6/4(although in this case it would be the 11/4 bar) And now we are in 6/8. and then it starts to switch back and forth between 6/8 to 6/4,and when that phrase is done, we are back to what was going on in the beginning with the whole switching from 9/8(3+3+3) into 6/4. AND THEN for the ending it's two bars of 9/8 followed by a phrase of 7 in the same tempo of the first metric modulation and then some more counting and the last note.
Oh man, you can't beat that footwork that starts at at 0:44, and then the groove just becomes too much and she cuts the rug with the sharpest of swords . She is shredding and grooving at the same time. Love it.
Waiting for you ladies to come to Atlanta!! Wonderful stuff and very happy to see interest still exists on well played, well arranged, and wonderful music.
Musical madness at its best. If Tricot were even 1/1000th of a degree "looser" in terms how they play together, they couldn't pull this stuff off, but they're tight as a doggone drum.
Wut?

I would love to see those drummers out there to attempt this song! thanks for figuring that out too!
I think I know what I'm doing for my next cover :3

My favorite song on the album without a doubt. Can't wait for a new album.
this song came from them sitting around repeating the words "orange juice" over and over and making it weirder and weirder... they're geniuses.
wait, for real? hahaha I like this song even more now
Now that I say it out loud it makes sense. lol

Tricot were my gateway into J/math rock. "OYASUMI". I don't regret a thing.
I just noticed Ikumi's guitar strap has The Beatles - Revolver on it. Awesome!
She has it in most videos, think i read somewhere she was in a Beatles tribute band before tricot
THEIR VOICES AND MELODIES ARE SENDING ME INTO A TRANCE LIKE OMG I'M JUST LOOKING OUT MY WINDOW ASKING MYSELF, WAIT, WHERE AM I?
ur at ur window
@@joshtowers6102she’s at her window
tricot is peak honestly
Im in love with the singer

What I thought when I saw them in London. All amazing musicians.
drummer is crazy!
10/10 perfect.
i love the energy this band has, especially the guitarist 😂
I just started listening to them like 30 min ago but this is my favorite song by them 🙏🏽😭(10:42 am may 26)
Has a shoegaze driftiness mixed with 80's King Crimson vibeology.
There's nothing shoegaze about this. It's math rock.
Oh hell yes! One of the best things Ive heard this year!
I love everything about this
the bassist is dream grill.
+Chad Ciputra i've never eaten a grill before, but i never imagined it would be tasty..
I hear her lines are hot and crispy (;
@@shadowsk8r2 not "her" but "his"

I have watched this video dozens of times the last few weeks. Great song, great video, great band
I like progresive music. 👍
Math-rock to be precise bro
This is not progressive music.
It's progressive but not prog
I've never seen 1 girl prog, let alone them collectively prog together
they've got a dope sound too, I'm very impressed
RHCP meets ATDI meets….. orange 🍊 juice??
Amazing 🤩 🤘🏽
Tricot? Like cotyledons? Dicots monocots? Nifty name (if that's why). Good sound all in all.
