  • In this video, I delve into the F4U Corsair and its successor the F2G Super Corsair. The F2G was possibly on track to be the most effective and advanced piston-driven aircraft of all time. Better in every way than its predecessor, this powerful craft was definitely deserving of the title "Super" Corsair.

2:16 - the Corsair on the left which obviously has a ‘4360, is what was dubbed the F4U-WM. Pratt and Whitney performed the conversion. Cool to see a bird cage Corsair with the Wasp Major. Vulture’s Row Aviation had the capabilities and tooling to build the world a second one.

An important note is that maximum engine power was obtained at only 5,000 ft, not at altitude, since it was a low altitude fighter and the engine only had a one speed one stage supercharger. "There is no replacement for displacement".

Max speed is at 17000 feet.
      407mph at Sea Level
      440mph at 17000 feet

That's why it flew high cover in fleet defense role late WW2.

Nice pictures. A shame the roar of that engine was drowned out by dialogue.

Designed and built by Vought, GoodYear also helped build the Vought design.
