Me, I'm 72 and it gets intimidating to do the swaps like this. Hear about them all day long but the chances if a old guy learning the wiring is just overwhelming. I just can't see the colors anymore and thats a big one to get past. I hope she popes off like it was never shut off. Good luck on the finish and good wrenching... I did it for about forty years as I messed with long hauling and timber cutting as a kid. I still pulled wrenches on the rigs I drove and swapped engines in my daily drivers. I tore them up fast in them days. Used to race in the morning and be building a engine for when the one I was driving coughed a lung up, come home and before the pipes were totally chilled, have another buttoned up. I ran em like I stole them and it won me a lot of races
The good thing about the way this harness is set up is there was literally only 1 wire that had to be hooked up. There were those 2 red wires that went to the starter, I used the stock starter wire from the car(the one that goes on the little stud) and then just that one red wire to the fuse box. If you can swap a small block in to something, you can swap this in. Especially if you buy a harness. I believe in you lol

Looks to be a very practical swap; especially that the original 4.1L HT Eight's about the same physical dimensions. The one thing that bugged is why welding the engine mounts in vs bolting 'em on, in case a mount goes bad and, needs to be replaced down the line.......
Just cut the welds? Idk why people are having such a hard time grasping that concept lol like 5 other people have asked that. To me cutting those welds is WAY easier than fishing those bolts through the frame. That fucking sucks
Following this closely, doing a similar swap. FYI, frame motor mounts for an 80-89 chevy pick up are a direct bolt-in placing the LS within an inch of a stock "corporate" 5.7 (if you cannot find those) and about $20 or so each.
Got an '84 and this swap could be in the works. Noticed that it appears that the engine could be sat back another couple of inches. Any reason(s) this did not happen?? THANKS
Oh yeah, it could go back damn near 4-5 inches. That was based off mostly how the manifolds fit and we wanted to keep everything easy to get too, like getting the bolt in the back of the head.

My buddy has a 2012 suburban, he doesn't beat the crap out of the truck at all. He ended up doing 2 mounts within a year. Its a hell of a lot easier to unbolt a mount than it is to shove a cut off wheel inside the engine compartment while the engine is in.

Yeah, stock Caddy bottoms, sbc upper clamshells and ICT Billet adapter plate. If you can swing it I'd recommend the dirty dingo mounts. Easier, cleaner, and they feel more secure to me.
If you a 4L60 or 4L65, they are the same length as a TH700R4 which came stock in the later years of this body style when they were using the SBC. You can grab a driveshaft from one of those and it should go right in. If you are using a 4L80, I would get one of those shafts anyways ans shorten it, as it will have the proper yokes on it. You will just need the 4L80 slip yoke.
You can get around the VATS if you have the donor vehicle running and unplug the BCM while its running it cant turn on VATS. You will have a trouble code for "no communication with BCM" but it run without tuning.
I believe it was a truck 24x harness with 80e controll plugs. Basically the truck vs car difference is the injectors. So, that's what you'll use to determine that for the most part. The maf plugs are different too, but thats an easier/cheaper fix than replacing injectors usually. And the 24x vs 58x just depends mostly on the year of the motor.
