Character design and flavor meshes so well with the fighting style it's quite great.

Man, I love doing mix-ups with Patriot Mirror because on block, it last for three hits. It's such a good pressure tool. And if they block too much, you can just grab and push them through the mirror for damage and install. TWO TRUTHS!

Perhaps because it is not very self-explanatory? Just a guess...
Sirlin's whole idea behind this game is to make fighting games as accessible to everyone as possible, so I'm assuming meaty (edit: meant the term, not the concept to which it refers) is part of the things he wanted to get rid of.
We meant the word itself is unfortunate because it sounds kind of stupid, and it's yet another jargony term that confuses new people. The underlying concept is fine and inherent to fighting games.
Fantasy Strike does that mean if an aspect of FGC culture comes across as “stupid” on 1st glance, you won’t allow it in a fighting game you make to bring newcomers into the fold? you would HATE what the FGC calls crouching jabs in Tekken lol
@@AuntBibby The thing is you have to explain all these terms to new players anyway, so it helps if the term is less abstract, so to speak. A 'jump-in' or a 'combo' is easier to understand & visualize than 'meaty' or 'rekka'.

Sick character. Some feedback: from a visual perspective, his facial structure and color palette make him look like Grave is going out for a night of cosplay. They look way too similar. I think a simple main-color-palette swap would help. Or, work on his face a bit to make him look more distinct.
Also, I really hope he gets a Magician skin. Seems like that may be more on-the-nose for the Sirlin team to make that his standard motif, but I think it fits the character a lot more directly than a man of the law. Keep up the good work guys... so happy to see more life in this game. Any plans on more heroes soon?
He isn't a man of the law, he is a politician that's why he uses illusions and deception

This game isn't specifically made for newbies; more like it's simple enough for anyone to pick up, including newbies. It's the difference between 'simple' and 'easy', and this game is definitely not 'easy'.
Each FS character is rated 1-3 stars for how difficult they are to play. Quince is 3 stars.
However, all of his individual moves are easy to do (as with all characters).
It's putting it all together and making decisions in real time that's the hard part.
Fantasy Strike is more accessible than FGs of comparable complexity and depth, but it is not simple.
If you want a truly simple fighting game, try Divekick, Lethal League, or Nidhogg.
Yes and no. The game is for experts to play at the tournament level, made by multiple people with top 8 finishes at Evo, and played by other Evo top 8 finishers as well. So it's designed and tuned for the top end of competitive play. It's just that it's ALSO unusually easy to understand what is going on and unusually easy to actually do the plan in your head, so it happens to be an excellent starting point to newcomers in the genre too.

playing against Quince in a 100ms ping match is the worst thing ever
Quince accidentally has worse than we intended due to some last minute issues before the launch. We have improved his framerate a bit internally, and we will push out that patch in two weeks or less (depends on Nintendo approval time). We might be able to improve it even more in a later patch. It's actually his framerate that causes issues in higher ping online games, since the issue gets multiplied the higher the ping is. Anyway, it should improve and we are aware of the issue.
