Why Are Wasps Good For A Garden? Hint: It's Not For Pollination

  • Wasps often get a bad rap for being dangerous insects that can sting you. Although there is a possibility of being stung, generally speaking wasps are tame and only get defensive if their nest is disrupted. In the garden wasps are an ally helping to control many unwanted pests that can do damage to your crops.

Everything in this life has a purpose. I just found a baby wasp squirming around on its back looking like it was about to die. I put him on a bit of paper and gave him some sugar water. He drank quite a bit, sat and cleaned himself for a bit, started fluttering his wings for a few seconds and then flew off outside. All animals and creatures should be cared for and protected even the stinging ones 🌎🐝

Those wasps always clean themselves before flying away. And they don´t use water, they are better than us :)

I've noticed some wasps hanging around my apartment balcony basil plants. This is what I assumed they were up to so I'm glad to hear it confirmed! I guess I should get a dish of water out there to say thanks! :)

Not just around, it's in us too. It's in me too I know, but it doesn't apply to wasps. I'll let a hornet build a nest in my bedroom rather than harming it. If it's not an Asian giant hornet.

I have a nest of yellow paper wasp at my place which I decided to keep around due to them being non aggressive. I was initially concerned but I did my research and found they’re good to keep around because they help pollinate and keep the bugs down.
It’s understandable that people don’t want wasps around if they’re going to be agro, kinda wish we could communicate to the wasp, tell them you’re not a threat to their nest. I wonder if they respond to the right pheromones?

Your chicken should be your channels mascot. What a unique and funny chicken. What's her name? I'm noticing many garden channels have a mascot the subscribers get to know and love. Yours could be that funny chicken.

By coincidence I was bit by a wasp today! It was a nest in a bad spot, just like you say, so it had to go. I'm so glad you made this video! Wasps truly are hunters in the garden and I love watching them work.

me too. I love wasps and hornets. That´s funny to watch and handfeed them. Have got a nice paperwasp nest, but it´s small. I´m waiting for larvae. And there aren´t many hornets in my country now, its June there. and I HATE wasp trappers. See this vid and you will fall in anger... th-cam.com/video/Fd3KKFAZV5o/w-d-xo.html&lc=z22wz5zguqvvft3dmacdp430ax5u5ogdp4ajmhc2bnlw03c010c.1560372651300041

I've even seen them eat small spiders. We were having a drought hear in MN this year. I think the lack of rain water and the lack of mosquitoes caused them to go after other things. We've had a bit of rain lately. Right now I have yellow jackets & flies in my Linden trees for some reason. They fly tree tree to grass. Like they're transporting something. Interesting but curious. The leaves are getting little dark spots from being minorly bitten. Maybe some kind of sap transfer.

I love social wasps, they're my favourite animal. I don't mind them and if a European hornet will build a nest in my bedroom, I'll let it be instead of destroying the nest, even if the hornet builds it right next to mine head. They're tame and if you have a queen building a nest in your house, feed it on hand with honey and they'll become tame.

I have planted 3 cherries , 3 peach and 3 plum trees around my house. The trees are 15 feet away from my deck and once they grow they might come very close to the deck. Will that bring wasps too close to my family and kids? I will not be able to harvest all the fruit. So will ripe fruit also attract more and more wasps?

  • @MarSHornetsandWasps-v26

Except for japanese hornets, but these giants are just selecting the best type of bee which will survive...
Yes, wasps are so useful as pest hunters, but it´s not good to let them to do colony improvement... I like wasps and hornets, and the hornets are the controllers of wasps. Improved yellowjackets won´t have enough prey in pests, so they could probably attack bees. And hornets are also very peaceful and funny
