The shooter is there to inflict harm until they are stopped. Swift, decisive action is the only way to stop the shooter and protect everyone else. A lot of folks care about church security but an effective safety team is made up of folks who care enough to commit to regular training and will act when it is needed.
Our church has 3 different locations. The largest of the 3 has a well established safety team. The location I am at has only about 70 in attendance. I am just starting a safety program at our location. I am the only one so far. I have a CCW and mostly work on researching and getting training via TH-cam and practicing myself. I am not the ideal person for the job, but I am the best we have.
We have a small town and a small church and our pastor doesn't want anything to do with a security team. I've even informed him that we have approximately 80% or more CCW in church at any time! The pastor looked shocked but this is in rural West Texas! A lot of us carrying concealed are veterans and he said well then that's more than needed! God bless y'all!
Ed Monk says that if someone who is prepared to act is close enough to see or hear the incident when it starts, they have a good probability of keeping the body count to single digits. At my church, I have a trained and qualified person at each of the two entrances to the children's area. The doors are locked. In the event of shooting, the two children's ministry persons stay at their post. All other team members move to the sound of gunfire and end the threat. Then the aftermath.
Being a Sunday School Teacher makes me realize what I would need to do to keep my Toddler classroom safe should shots be fired, which is to immediately secure my door and make sure ALL Teachers and Helpers know how to do this as well. ✝️🙏🏼 Great info, super informative!!
Great video content and your spot on! I myself as a combat veteran you never know how anyone is going to react until a bad situation happens no matter how well they believe they're trained! Thanks Keith!!
Interesting a guy on another church security and I just had a discussion about concealed carriers. He wanted to tell them not to carry to church. Kind of a wild card problem. I told him to have a discussion with them and to lay out more or less rules. I like the idea of telling them their family is their responsibility. Doesn’t make it feel like you are leaving them out of the possible incident. As we start ours I will keep this in mind. Thank you.
In my opinion, it is much better to coordinate and identify CCW holders via an appeal from the priest, reverend, pastor, etc. Asking CCW holders to not carry isn’t an option
Love the content. Sent it to my buddy in another state and he was stoked. Said he was about to start up a security team at his church. Keep doing God's work sir.
Excellent guidance and as such it should be adapted to each unique environment. For example we have multiple services on the weekend with a varying number of armed security team members that can range from 1 to 8. This dictates positioning per our church's layout. We also have 3 separate parking lots that are spread out plus detached buildings where other activities are taking place. Hence, we focus on the church entrances and layer as possible. All that being said, our training is to first engage the threat. We also have a uniformed LEO at all Sunday services. Unfortunately, we can not engage with any armed members of the congregation, other than LEOs, as they are prohibited by Diocese policy.
Thanks, every time I heard you, I learn something to share to the church team. But some of them think that they have nothing to learn with the notes I pass to them.
Everyone has more to learn. More to refresh in their memories. More details they haven't thought of or at least not recently. I used to teach martial arts, I often learned from teaching and from questions from students. The basics don't change, but details and keeping mindsets sharp may save lives if one of these unthinkable days occur.
Hey kieth. On security team at my church.had mom's thank me for guarding nursery. They depend on us to protect the children when they're in service. I buried my first grandchild. I couldn't have them go through that because i left the door unguarded. At this point im concerned about coordinated attack . I'll study on it. Thanks11:09 co
Thanks Keith, this video was spot on with some questions that I was grappling with for our Church Safety Team. I really like the idea of a CCW breakfast and short discussion on what the CCW members should be doing. I wish you would discuss any strategies you are aware of that deal with Church (volunteer) Management who fear the Security Teams can possibly get them personally sued and how Churches are dealing with that (insurance companies are declining to offer that kind of coverage). Anyway, thanks for the video. Best Wishes from WV
Keith the program you once in a while get on when you talk to about 4 to 5 military or police agency men I love that program. I can’t find it. Can you please let me know if you know what I’m talking about and if you give me their names so I can find the program on TH-cam. It’s driving me crazy. By the way, I love your program. I think you’re a wonderful man and you’re doing a lot of good things really good things. Please get back with me. You were on this program by the way several times now.!
Agreed. And while the probability for any one congregation is small, the consequences can be catastrophic. Safety teams, much like fire extinguishers and seat belts, when you need 'em, you need 'em to work on the first go around. I'm 70 years old and I can remember the kerfuffle in my church growing up in the 60's when they decided they needed to put locks on the doors and lock up the church when it wasn't active. There was a great sadness to that discussion and decision. We're many long steps down the road from there, I'm afraid.
A couple of months ago you mentioned that you would prepare a video explaining which CCW insurance is best. I've looked at a few but have been unable to decide which would be the best to use. Hopefully your input will help me decide.
The shooter you mentioned from last week did not have a rifle. It was finally determined from eye witnesses and the police report that he had a handgun. That shows how easy it is to get duped by knee-jerk reporting as soon as something happens without waiting for the facts to surface.
My pastor caries during sermon. Then there's the congregation that I know personally know at lest 5 that caries while in service. My point is my church is not a firearm free zone.
Thank you for your service and for all you do. I have a question. I heard that if the church doesn’t have enough ccw security people that with permission from the Pastor someone can open carry in the church to be on the security team. Is that legal and if so would open carry be smart?
Didn't the trans-shooter shoot through a glass exterior door to gain entry? Also, I believe the Marjorie Douglas Stoneman shooter shot at a classroom door in order to try to gain entry.
🔥KEITH ?🔥 IS BLOCKING AN OPPOSING SIDE, REALLY HOW "PROFESSINGCHRISTIANS" DEAL WITH THE TRUTH ? MY KIDS WON'T ANSWER THE PHONE & THINK THERE PROBLEM IS NOW SOLVED ???😂

Spot on my brother.
I pray you're doing well Keith! Thank you for another well-reasoned message.

Am coordinating a security atmosphere among the ushers at our small church. Appreciate all of your work, Keith! Have prayed for your health, brother.
I am a 1-man team in a small rural church, and I appreciate the information that you provide. God bless you 🙏.
Identify, isolate and neutralise the threat(s). That protects the children, the pastor, and the congregation.
Spot-on!

Great content
Thank you Keith appreciate you so much.
I love your podcasts from a Christian perspective. ❤
Your wisdom and knowledge are a very valuable asset to all Americans who take self defense seriously. Thank you for what you do brother!
Focus on probability, not possibilities. I really enjoy your videos.
Ty Keith. It’s sad that we live in a age where we have to have security safety teams in churches.
I am the lead for our safety team. You are spot on.
Good Wisdom!
Thanks!

@@raymondfournier4104 I agree!
@@raymondfournier4104 I agree. If I wasn’t on the security team I would have a problem if someone told me not to carry.
@@raymondfournier4104Absolutely better to have informed CCWs that understand your team's plans of action.

Great podcast! Our church is 16 to 18 inch thick adobe walled. Even a small church like ours security cameras are a must have.
Thank you!!

And all members get Stop the Bleed training.
Do you have a tourniquet and battle dressing in your car?
Eliminate the threat , at first response ! Secure the suspect! Respond to any additional threats!

Not USCCA, they drop you if there are any charges. They have done it several times in self defense cases.
Protect with Bear, Attorneys on Retainer, US Law Shield.

Depends on the state. Some allow, some don't.
They're was a shooting in tx that a ccw shot and killed the shooter from across the church in two shots.
Why not include carriers in some of the training?
For the algorithm.

Absolutely! Congregation as a whole, yourself, suspect(s).
People first. And let insurance handle vandalism in the parking lot
Apparently Keith never Heard of the ATF they always break thru locked doors!!
But it means they have to knock on the door first and that alerts the security team.
Puked out.
