My problem is, that when I get payed work, I get so nervous and start second guessing myself. Had my first tv commercial aired during Christmas, and I was so nervous that I didn’t even watch it live on tv. Got any tips on overcoming that devastating and destructive self criticism? I know I’m decent at what I do, but as soon as I’m creating for someone else, I almost shut down and don’t know how to use my gear. :)

In May of last year, we were looking for a vacation spot, found the Azores (island in the middle of nowhere? YES PLEASE!), so we did research and found your video, as well as your vlog content in the Azores. Three months later, we were exploring the island ourselves. THANK YOU! For the working folk, here is tip for free (or cheaper) travel: volunteer for work trips. My job has the potential for requiring someone to go on service trips, so why not make that person me? Last year, I got to see Springfield, Illinois, Chicago (when my flight got snowed in), Boston and even Portland (for the solar eclipse no less!) with minimal investment on my end. Sure, half my time was spent working but when the work is done, I'm free to choose how I spend the rest of those hours. It's a bit limiting, but it's a hell of a lot cheaper than booking a flight, hotel AND having to burn through vacation hours. Maybe you don't have products to service, offer to go to a training seminar. If you do good work already, and the company thinks sending you to Vegas (or San Francisco or New York) for a training course will amplify your value, they'll usually jump right on that. Plus, that's a new marketable skill for your future career choices. Nothing is truly free, but if you put in the work, you can reap the rewards.
Those are the best travel moments. Just overwhelmed by what your experiencing the point of tears and joy. haha I had that experience in Iceland last year. Unforgettable.

I don't think I have ever once commented on a video on TH-cam before, but this video was very good and worthy of a comment. My wife and I are going to the Dominican Republic this month, and I was planning on shooting a bunch of video on the trip -- and this very idea crossed my mind literally a couple hours before stumbling on this video. I wasn't even searching for this video. I just watch a ton of video/photo tutorials, and this popped up. I've seen your other videos and really liked them, but this one really got my smiling. Those Azores videos were absolutely beautiful. As an Azorean, I very much approve. You can't go wrong with Portugal, the world's most epic little country. And if you want true epic shots and adventure, then go to Nazaré on the Portuguese mainland when the big swells role in from the Atlantic. There you will find the biggest, most epic waves on the planet. Look it up on YT if you haven't heard of it. Then pack your gear and go if you dare.

Chris, that's very smart what you have done :) We used similar approach and got a couple of trips for free with a whole bunch of activities included. All these tourism boards (and most of brands as well) need content for their social media and it's much cheaper for them to invite a content creator and pay for his accommodation than hire someone "professional" and pay for a whole range of stuff. Thank you very much for sharing your story! We are sure it inspires a lot of people to be more brave and start doing what they really like!
Great video! Im going to cuba, in literally 6 hours. And Im going there and travelling across the country specifically to do photography and filmmaking. Im not doing it for anyone. Not for a tourism board, but for my own youtube channel in hopes to grow like you. After watching this, I realized that I should have contacted people before the journey, but then again, I have nothing to show. So, the trip I am going on, I hope to capture some amazing stuff so I can start to travel for a living doing photography and filmmaking! Thanks for the tips

Then you mentioned the video got 4000 views. and the previous one got 400. It made me realize even someone of my tiny ass size can make this work. When you reached out to places like the Ireland tourism board, how did you market yourself as "valuable" if you didn't have a large following? I am going to Thailand in a few weeks and would love to reach out in the same way you did, but also like yourself, I don't have any following on social media. Appreciate the help!

I'm doing a 2.5 month trip through Thailand, Philippines, and Indonesia in the summer for the sole purpose of making content and trying to build my personal brand. When you reached out to places like the Ireland tourism board, how did you market yourself as "valuable" if you didn't have a large following? I am going to Thailand in a few weeks and would love to reach out in the same way you did, but also like yourself, I don't have any following on social media. Appreciate the help!

I'm SO happy that I watched it because I'm going to start traveling soon (based out of Miami so Caribbean and Central America are very accessible) and this is just such great insight into how I can take actionable steps to collaborate with companies/toursim boards/brands/etc to make these kinds of videos. I'm doing a 2.5 month trip through Thailand, Philippines, and Indonesia in the summer for the sole purpose of making content and trying to build my personal brand. Will definitely get in contact with as many people as I can to see if I can get anything (even small) from it. Can't wait for this year, and still saying you need to bring the Hau-To!
