Come to Paris ! It might not be as glamorous as Monte Carlo and there's no beach but you'll find some nice venues to play. Anyway, I'm super excited to see how the backgammon community will grow over the next few years. I know for sure that in France, new clubs have been created over the last few years and new players have come to play on regular basis which is great. I think that broadcasting such a great event may make backgammon more and more visible and I guess that the game needs such a great tournament to attract new players around the world. However, I think that the entry fee should not be raised in order to be played by players who might not have thousands of Euros to enter the tournament. Anyway, good job everyone !
I used to play in the 80s and now I never see anybody from those days playing, Lee Genud, Bill Robertie, Mike Svobodny, Silvester can't remember his first name lots of players from those days I never see any of them playing I am sure they would more than hold their own
A dress code is very pretentious and just a show, some people don't feel comfortable wearing smarter clothes. Sure Monte Carlo is a place for image and pomf but entering a tournament dressed as you like IS you, you feel comfortable, confident and READY to win 🤟✨
Isn't this a prestigious event though? It is the world cup and not just any other tournament. If one feels uncomfortable at showing some respect to dress appropriately for the occassion, then skip the tournament and simply go to the beach.
There is a small, elitist community of players that organize their championships and exchange grandmaster titles among themselves. They say they are the best players in the world. Sure, in their tiny, futile, shallow world. However, there is an ocean of great players, true masters, in Turkey, Middle East and Russia; people with incredible skills that don't have money to go to Monte Carlo to be tested by these frivolous GM's. There are better ways to make backgammon more popular, if by popular one meams more people playing and not just more rich gamblers, right?
Isn't the point of the world championship in Monte Carlo to crown a top player? It is not primarily about popularizing the game. For that, there are other tournaments where the prices and location is adjusted to attract more players. For the world championship, they wish to attract the best of the best and this means not everyone can participate.
@@jacques42 Well, if not everyone can participate how can you say that in Monte Carlo you have the best of the best? That's a biased sample of players!
@@rbpompeu1 Attracting the best of the best. This means that people who are confident enough in themselves that they have a serious chance in winning will then be willing to pay the high entrace prize plus the high non-tournament costs based on the location. People who do not feel so confident in their own winning chances, will not enter. This is the same for many other individual sports.
Why,Marc, do you laugh about a dresscode? We used to have high society tournaments like St.Moritz in 1993 ,when Gus showed up in underwear in Badrutts Palace Hotel ,all others wearing jacket and tie.Do you think such annoying behavior is good for the business? Or a movie about drunk Sander ,behaving like a complete moron? Monte Carlo used to have an elegance trophy. Thats where millionaires showed up . I see the garbage environement today, thats why i dont join backgammon anymore.
Backgammon is a skill-based game with dice bringing the element of surprise (luck) which you obviously cannot control. This is why backgammon is super exciting.
@@PredatorPeyami Rubbish, what evidence do you base this sweeping statement on? National lotteries all over the world are thriving and, in case you are unaware, that's gambling.
Congratulations to Backgammon Galaxy for purchasing the Backgammon World Championship. All the best and lots of tournaments to come.
Thank you :-)
Knupfer is spot on...

Well done guys! 👍
ZZ has such a great persona
He makes backgammon look cool
A pity that they didn't interview Sanders earlier in the day...
I think Lady Fabulous needs her own Galaxy board. In 3 different color choices. You could call them LF#1 LF#2 and LF#3
What happened to part 1?
Come to Arkansas
Exactly. The game needs more money to attract many more players.

dont let any toxic and hateful agenda destroy our international unity! 💪
Well said!! We are very much against toxic and hateful agendas!
Exactly: set a minimum dresscode; no shorts and only butonned shirts
LOL!
