@Christopher Meisner 👍 Yup! I love That Chapter! 👏👏👏👏👏 I think that there are TH-cam creators who are far superior to tv shows these days! I like Emma Kenny. I didn’t think much of her on British tv but her True Crime videos are great! She’s actually met some of the families & young offenders… She gets to include all of the information she wants on TH-cam, rather than the short clips you see on tv.

To be honest even if her dad had looked the whole time there was no way he could have stopped him the only way this situation could have been prevented was if she didn’t go to the letter box the time it would have taken her dad to get down stairs into the car or even ran down the driveway her kidnapper would have been long gone

I go back and forth on the question of capital punishment. The opportunities for its abuse are so availabe; especially with such a porous legal system that we have; where collecting convictions outweighs the truth. However, in cases such as this; where there is no doubt as to who did what, and the crime(s) are so heinous, there is justification for a terminal solution; sparing the state and the public the expense of maintaining such monsters, or running the risk that such incorrigibles should ever be released back into society by misguided parole boards that don't understand the psychopathy they are dealing with. This being said, I still feel that Scott Peterson should have faced the death penalty for having murdered his wife, Laci, and their unborn child.
@@Brembelia you question the death penalty but then say Scott Peterson needs the death penalty??? Wow!! Amber Fry is now a celebrity and rich off of Lacis death!!! Scott was convicted on ONLY circumstantial evidence... now the mistress of Chris Watts us talked badly about but had nothing to do with any death or killing!! My baby suffered and was tortured and beat to death when he was only 4 years old 💔 😪 😢.. at first I wanted to pull the trigger or push the button to kill his murderer. Now I just wish my baby could of had some justice at all!! Theres no justice in America!! The death row has killed more innocent than u can imagine!! Even one innocent person bring convicted is horrible and should never happen!! I dont get how people can go and watch someone die on death row after waiting 20 and more years!! What a horrible hatred to feel in your heart against someone to feel justice watch someone be killed after so long!!! Wow... I feel sorry for them, and glad I dont have that hatred in my heart still. It's God's decision 🙏 not mine or yours or anyone to end a life! These people who love death row call themselves Christian. It is very scary to me!!
The problem is... they would need to make absolutely sure... There was one case where a girlfriend said her boyfriend killed a girl and both was in jail for 6 years before they caught the actual killer after he had killed others and confessed it was him the that actually killed the girl. And gave them the full details... She had guessed closely enough to had the police believe her so she could get revenge on her boyfriend for being too controlling. So he was totally innocent... And they let both out but in my opinion they should have left her in prison...

Problem with these sickfucks is that they are perfectly aware of their deviation, hide their sexual fantasies for years, but sometimes it snaps and their deviation overwhelmes them and they literally hunt down their victim. Even if perfectly aware of harsh sentences. And society can't recognize them as sexual predators as they act somewhat normal prior to such acts. At max., they are considered as weirdos.
"The sheriff called for assistance, bypassing the 24 hour waiting period required before reporting someone as a missing person." Just in case anyone watches this and thinks this is true: You *DO NOT* have to wait 24 hours to report someone as missing, especially a child! The first 24 hours are absolutely crucial if someone has been abducted or suffered a medical or mental health emergency. If someone goes somewhere and was supposed to return but instead they disappeared, call the police. If someone was supposed to be at home or meet you somewhere and they don't show up, you can't get in touch with them after a reasonable amount of time, and this is out of character for them or something just seems off, call the police. You won't get arrested if they turn out to be fine. Don't wait just to find out whether they'll suddenly show up a day later.
Just try that if your child isn't a blonde Caucasian female or from a wealthy family! Sorry to trigger racists, but all intelligent humans know that it's true.
@@HobbyOrganist If evil and suffering exist, does it necessarily follow that God doesn't exist? How could we blame God for the evil that man does? It's like blaming the car's designer because you're out of gas. God could have created us as robots so we always choose to do good. But God values our freewill. God is not an impersonal being who crosses His arms and delight in the sufferring of His creation. He became man in the person of the Lord Jesus, was born in poverty, died on a cross, and was counted among criminals. He understood pain and suffering. He died for you and for me. If humanity is truly without sin; Why do we lie? Why do we steal? Why do we kill? Why do we have this concept of evil and good? Why do we march on the streets demanding justice? Jurgen Habermas is an intellectual atheist he once stated; Religion is an important source for creating meaning, and he warns Europe that our educational system, our legal system, our human rights, are all derivative from the Judeo-Christian tradition. If it is, then we could have invited atheists to speak in funerals and disaster areas. What hope does atheism bring?
@@bunnylady6758 " why do we feel bad for Shari and other crime victims?" No idea, I don't know them, they don't mean anything to me personally and according to your doctrines they left here and jumped in jezus' lap in perfect PARADISE, so you should be CELEBRATING that they left planet purgatory sooner than later (which is what earth is- compared to perfect PARADISE) and get there that much faster than had they lived to be 95 or something and struggling to pay bills and buy food, and then getting cancer or whatever. Marx considered the contributions of religion over the centuries to be unimportant and irrelevant to the future of humanity. He argued that religious belief had been invented as a reaction against the suffering and injustice of the world. In marx's view, the poor and oppressed were the original creators of religion, and they used it as a way to reassure themselves that they would have a better life in the future, after death. Thus, it served as a kind of "opium," or a way to escape the harsh realities of the world. Religious suffering is, at one and the same time, the expression of real suffering and a protest against real suffering. Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people. Over time, however, religion came to be used by the ruling classes as a way to keep people obedient, by promising supernatural rewards in exchange for submission on earth. Thus, marx argued that religion - originally intended as an escape from suffering - had been turned into a cause of suffering.
Some of the most chilling words, in the killer’s own voice, and a look inside his mind: “Shari is now a part of me. Physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually; our souls are one, now.” Thank goodness the mother didn’t know that meant he’d killed her.

Why should it matter if the person who is missing comes from a stable background? Even if their not, police should be looking just as hard. They've stated multiple times that she came from a religious, well to do family. A lot of poor ,unstable girls go missing. It's obvious they don't get the same treatment as the well to do families. This has to change.
It’s shameful that prejudice will affect how LE will prioritise such cases. We see time and again how even the media have a bias. The only benefit I will give them is that they are suggesting that she was unlikely to be a run away. It’s important to remember that just because a family may seem to be a respectable and/or religious does not necessarily mean that behind closed doors that things are fine and dandy.
But most kids from unstable backgrounds just run away & aren’t kidnapped. How are the cops supposed to pour every resource into every report of a missing person, without getting spread too thin? They have to look at the facts - if a kid from an unstable background had pulled up in their driveway & gone missing from there, I’m sure almost all cops would treat it the same. But if a kid who is known to run away from home because their parents are deadbeats but usually turns up safely within a few days, just doesn’t come home from school (same as the last 3 times they ran away), then are the cops supposed to start massive manhunts? Would be nice if they had the resources to do that for every person reported missing, but reality doesn’t allow it. Just look at the FBI’s Most Wanted/Missing Persons list at how many people are missing www.fbi.gov/wanted/kidnap

Very sad. I grew up in the 1960s in England and spent hours everyday miles from home roaming freely in town and countryside - all kids did then. Our parents were very 'hands off' and we had a kids' life of adventure.
As if it isn't horrifying enough to abduct an innocent person for one's own sadistic means, but then to taunt the family members afterwards and force the victim to write letters to them is beyond comprehension - this is so awful I can't wrap my head around it. ParkourBear That’s a fact. When I was in elementary school, we said the pledge of allegiance and the Lord’s Prayer every morning to start our day. If you got a trophy, it was because you beat everyone else in the game, not because they didn’t want to upset anyone or make them feel bad for losing. Well guess what? That’s what happens in the real world. You lose sometimes. If you don’t prepare children for that, instead of giving trophies to the entire league, then they grow up and expect to win at everything and when they don’t, they do what we see today.

Sometimes, things are out of your control. There have been women who have fought against abduction and still ended up being abducted. If her attacker has an agenda, and wants to take her, and is stronger than her, then most likely she will be taken, regardless of the fight or struggle she gives him. There have been stories where women who put up a struggle, were beaten into unconsciousness, and taken by their attacker, and other stories where they managed to avoid abduction. So, It honestly depends on the situation. Sometimes they can escape being taken, and other times they can't.
*Listening to her sister talk about how she kept thinking he had to he taking care of her.... it's crazy how young minds are so naive and clueless to how demented some ppl can truly be!! I'll never forget myself being there!! It wasn't physically abuse, but horribly mentally abusive!! And looking back now... It's hard to hard to believe that I was so mentally manipulated!!*
I wish kids from unstable backgrounds were also taken seriously. Leaving them to the streets helps no one, least of all a disadvantaged teen - nor the community they will join in the coming years. Investing in the kids is an investment in all our futures.
Just taking care of those in desperate need of mental health services (even if they don’t have insurance or their insurance plan only covers 4 - 6 weeks of institutional care) would be a start!!! Hopefully there's more awareness now with the abundance of criminal psychology docs on serial killers , that psychopaths can't be rehabilitated . There have also been a few US studies on Serial Killers & their backgrounds which have found common childhood themes: 96% of serial killers on Death Row have experienced abuse, mental health issues & a head injury resulting in personality change .(frontal lobe controls empathy & impulse control).

If there was ever a case to use as an argument for the death sentence, this is it!
Not death sentence, Water boarding or torture!!!

It was the paper indentation that broke the case open. Without it, they'd still be chasing phone taps.
Probably that's how the law was back in 1985 and probably that's why it's different now. Sad cases like this one change the laws.

Atheism is not the answer to pain and suffering. If it is, then we could have invited atheists to speak in funerals and disaster areas.

I always say that don't happen around there until it does.
They were saying that because people from stable homes are less likely to run away.
Limited resources. Think about how nuch tax every one has to pay if you want an abundant police resources

I wish kids from unstable backgrounds were also taken seriously. Leaving them to the streets helps no one, least of all a disadvantaged teen - nor the community they will join in the coming years. Investing in the kids is an investment in all our futures.
@Marilyn Willett truth
Just taking care of those in desperate need of mental health services (even if they don’t have insurance or their insurance plan only covers 4 - 6 weeks of institutional care) would be a start!!!
Many so called, “monsters” would never have plunged to the depths of taking innocent lives, if they had simply been medicated & received therapy that monitored their med taking…
Legal insanity is a VERY different thing to actual ‘insanity’!
Gosh this is really worst nightmares to anyone who get kidnap😣😣
This story has always stuck with me. I first seen the story on unsolved mysteries, than the movie death of a beauty queen, and now this. Reading Sherri's last will and testament in full brought me to tears.. it is a beautifully sad reminder of just how strong, thoughtful, loving, and faithful she was even faced with all she endured. God bless his victims and there loved ones.
While i was growing up, i never knew these types of people existed.
They would of been shot on property, by people that hunted and knew what trespassing signs gave them the right to do.
Must have never read a newspaper or watched the news. This stuff happens every day.
@@evamonks3137 what??
@@coryce258 I am 60 grew up in the country, most every pick up truck had a gun rack in full view rear window. Most all the kids I went to school with had their trucks parked n school parking lot, most signs on property had Do not trespass, shot on sight.
People did not steal your farm animals, and they damn sure didn't not steal your kids.
A lot of farmers had salt rock for kids coming on the property.
Everyone knew you could be hurt or killed. That was a safe way to deal with the impossible situations people are faced with now.
Too many of these horrific crimes happen now, I remember when they didn't.
Same here.. I was so naive as a child.
Terrible case..Hope the family have some peace. :(
This was the toughest one of the series to watch . What evil there is in some people.
Wow. Dawn is a brave lass.
It’s so sad that he killed a young girl but at least they caught him before his # of kills went up. Although he could of killed more that are just unsolved.
2 girls...
Larry Gene Bell is connected to two other women's disappearances in the Charlotte, North Carolina area. One was a coworkers wife and second lived 300 yards away from him.. to this day neither remains for either women have ever been found
R.I.P Shari & Deborah 🙏 tragic what happened to them both.
Good work Law Enforcement .
That evil monster is in the lake of fire with Satan himself.
Well said 🥀
That would be to good for him.
"Good family background" as if only good girls deserve to be immediately looked for.
That's not what that means at all.
@@cynditalks sorry to know that you were abused and hope you know how to keep abusers away now
I believe that simply refers to victimology: The risk factor due to victim's usual environment. Its not about value in any way imho.
Only pretty white girls from a privileged background are worthy.
That's life, sad but true.
Is this how your mind always works? I really hope you learn to like, think. Someday, for everyone's sake including yours.
That's how it should be: Now my friend you are going to pay the Price!!!! Don't kill, because it gets you killed!!
Crimes like this I believe criminals should be to torched.
Debra May Helmick's abduction was pretty scary. .... he just grabber her and went away.
Can't imagine the guilt the neighbor must have felt. To see it happen and not be fast enough to prevent it would be horrible.
if they had brought a canine unit, it would have probably helped
Good point
Back in the 80s not every Police station had trained dogs infact it was a rare time to see one . policeman started training dogs for their personal use
He pulled her into his car. How was the dog going to track the car?
He DROVE down the driveway to her car??!!
Well yeah.. Thats what he did..

Yes, that was some crazy stuff😳
What's wrong with that?walking is too much
He no doubt thought she had collapsed because of her diabetes, so got in the car to get there quicker
Boy, I bet when they stopped him he was so damn shocked! He really thought he had out outsmarted everybody. Ha those police and FBI worked well together! 🙂
True.
This channel offers the best real crime documentaries! Never disappoints me! Thank you guys! Excellent job!
Fantastic work by the entire team.
Geeze the Dad acts like he can barely walk into the brush maybe 5 feet, then gives up and goes back.. come on, search every inch of that wooded area if it's your kid.
tell your kids never ever enter stranger car by force or willingly make a big scence screem fight but never willingly go w culprit
i will have to to have my kids learn self defense
Hopefully there's more awareness now with the abundance of criminal psychology docs on serial killers , that psychopaths can't be rehabilitated . There have also been a few US studies on Serial Killers & their backgrounds which have found common childhood themes: 96% of serial killers on Death Row have experienced abuse, mental health issues & a head injury resulting in personality change .(frontal lobe controls empathy & impulse control).
I wonder how much of the common childhood themes are true. It seems to me that people who kill may also lie. And if s/he can spin a good tale, who knows, it might persuade people to be sorry enough for them so they receive a lighter sentence?
Jim Kallstrom from the New Yawk office passed away July the 9 2021. Rest in peace
Reading her last will and testament broke me heart 😢
Wish all murders were solved like this, those are sharp police force & detectives !!!
The profilers are so cool.... Damn..
I hate to even imagine the immense pain & trauma that her poor father went through!! 😭 These monsters destroy so many innocent lives of families & friends of their victims. 😔😢😔
Amazing what the forensic experts can uncover❣
Apparently he was a suspect in the disappearance of two other women according to his wiki. They were never found.
My little niece always plays by herself in the yard. One day a man walking by kept looking at her and getting closer. I told her to get inside and after that I never let her out of my sight! You'll never know who is a predator and willing to harm others! Always listen to your 6th sense!
A man at a homeless shelter we lived at was paying too much attention my son, who was a little older than 3. I pulled my son closer and never let him away from me. Turns out, that man had a past as a pimp and a rapist. Everyone who got into that shelter was supposed to be screened but apparently this guy slipped through the cracks. My son will not go through what I went through. No matter what.

Someone said..
When a person wants to kidnap you, just braze your arms around his ankles, dont let go. Scream.
Then she may have been shot so he could get away. The best thing to do is lay down or run, never go to the second location.
@@sarahwales6276 the best thing is to lay down..
For sure..
@@sarahwales6276
Laying down is NOT a good idea... I know this from experience (I was drugged and later assaulted and raped 20 years ago when I was in college). Fighting and running is the best thing you can do, when you can. Using your elbows and knees are the best as well as gauging at someone's eyes.
Laying down, only lets the Perp take control of you... Tie you up, etc.
Not trying to start an argument, just trying to educate people based off of what I went through and later learned after my experience.
Take care!

It's always the quiet sleepy town where everyone knows everyone or supposedly so.
That’s why it’s on a show,I live in a small town…very small we don’t even have a local police force,we use the state police if needed, but then when I see these shows I really beefed up the security of my house as if I live in the city.…better to be safe than sorry and be the subject of one of these shows.there’’re lose screws in every community, just check the sex offender registry in your area…..you’ll be aghast by who you find in there.

It’s still so insane to me, that someone thinks it’s fair to kill someone else just cuz they’re miserable!
The way they portray the situation, everything made my heart jump especially when the phone started to ring jeez
If only there were more people yelling SHARI!!!
I saw an older movie recently called Victim of Beauty that was based on this case.. truly horrifying 🥺
I’m really glad the local police asked the FBI to help right away. So many times the local cops shoo the FBI away because they want all the credit for solving the case, or because of their ego, whatever. But the only thing that matters is the victim(s), and the more investigators working the case, the better.

You'd think cops would already be waiting at all public phone boxes in that area for him when he made another call.
I always think that but I suppose it comes down to manpower and funding😔
