@Ryan Smith If they were adults, they could be charged with filing a false report, making false statements to authorities, etc., depending on the jurisdiction. Unfortunately it sounds like it was a child "prank" calling. Still, it was unspeakably cruel. The vast majority of children understand right from wrong and such antisocial behavior by a child tends to be predictive of sociopathy. I'd be interested in knowing how that child's life has turned out now, and whether she's had other run-ins with the law as an adult.

I like to use the quote “it’s better to put a millstone around your neck than to hurt a child and drown yourself in the lake. “ Cannot believe I left the drowning part out. “ Jesus Christ. “Suffer ye not the little children.” And I include any vulnerable person like the elderly, the sick, disabled retarded etc. or helpless animal. I use this quote, “what you have done to the least of my people you have done to me. “ I like the part when the hypocrites were told by Jesus I do not know you and they freaked out, saying lord lord, as he drove home they showed no mercy to the most vulnerable so in turn he would be without mercy to them. Their is another quote which supports the way the animals are created and protected too. Even if you don’t believe in Jesus those are good quotes. If we have these type of people that showed no mercy to their victims then we will show no mercy to them when they get their punishments for doing what they did.
He had 2 arrest and convictions of kidnapping and another of armed robbery. He should've never been free again after those convictions. Polly would've still been alive today if it wasn't for the failures of the justice system!
Judicial system is a joke partly because of the people voting in liberal leadership who care more about the criminals rights than protecting victims and potential victims I don’t understand why
Sounded like a botched investigation to me too. The cops didn't hear the information because their radios were on a different frequency. But why did they not find out when they got back to the station? they should have known they let a murderer go. The story that they escorted him off the property was likely just to cover their ass. They pulled him out and they headed back to the station while poly class and the murderer lay in the dingley weeds. Why did it take two months to recover this scene? @Donnell Okafor I must respectfully disagree. I can't get my head around the fact that so many people saw a strange man lurking in the shawdows by Polly's house....and did nothing. A few years ago I called the police because a strange looking woman was trying to get into the backyard of my neighbor's house. She couldn't work the latch of their gate. Long story short, neighbors were on vacation and had asked a friend from their church to water their plants, collect their mail, etc. I didn't know and felt silly for calling the police. The officers assured me that I had done the right thing in calling them. Even the woman herself reassured me! As the police told me...don't hesitate to call them; that's what they're there for. 🖤🖤 RIP Polly Klaas🖤🖤
This happened a long time ago & ppl didn’t pay attention like they do now. But this case changed everything - made people notice. Sad that this is what it took
Plus, if it was me, I'd have let my neighbors know there was a girl coming to feed the pets or whatever & asked them to keep an eye out while I was gone. Communication is important. I probably wouldn't tell everyone I was leaving town but a couple neighbors I trust, yes especially adjoining property.
Imagine if Polly really WAS alive in the woods while the police were there after he'd gotten his car stuck... imagine if she were close enough to the road to see the police but her mouth was taped shut & her arms / legs were bound so she couldn't yell out or run over... just imagine that. I'm not saying it's okay or that I would stand by and watch someone be assaulted or kidnapped, because I certainly wouldn't since I've been in a violent relationship before. But has anyone here heard of the Kitty Genovese murder? That's where they coined the term Bystander Syndrome. About 15(some reports say 40 or more but that's been proven false) people, her neighbors, saw and heard her being stabbed on the street. Only one man shouted out for the man to leave her alone, no one came out to help her and she made her way to her apartment building, the killer had ran away then a few minutes later came back and attacked her again, stabbing her in her apartments corridor just feet from a neighbors door who looked out and saw the murderer standing over her body but he was too afraid to do anything and was drunk at the time. Every single person who said they heard her screams and did nothing stated they didn't do anything because they believed someone else must have already called the police or gone to help because they didn't hear her screams anymore. One woman, ONE, a friend of hers finally went outside to investigate and found her bleeding out in the corridor and called for people to call the police and Kitty passed away in her arms. Again, not saying it's "okay" but it's a common occurance if you haven't seen or experienced enough violence or bad behavior in your life to know to speak up regardless of your fears. It's just a symptom of human behavior that's been around for a long time. We know more now in 2019 how evil people can be and how to protect those who are more vulnerable, but it still happens just not as often. Long ass rant but the final thought is, people are overwhelmingly idiotic. Doesn't make it alright. But it's also not surprising to me at all that this happened with so many witnesses. Truly this will just keep happening until we're all so paranoid about each other that no one trusts anyone anymore.
If anyone's wondering, Davis is now 66, still on death row. He's tried overdosing but survived, and argued his confession was inadmissible due to not having a lawyer present, which was denied.

What I don’t understand about this is: He took Polly into dark woods and left her there while he tried to get vehicle unstuck. Then police came and got him unstuck and guided him away from the area where the stuck vehicle was. Then the kidnapper drove around for another 15-30 min before returning to Polly. So did he tie Polly up to a tree? I know kids get scared in the dark woods at night but if she wasn’t tied up to a tree then why didn’t she start running the opposite direction of the vehicle? Was she blind folded so she couldn’t see? My family thinks I’m crazy for liking True Crime stories BUT shows like this has taught me a lot about abductions and I then teach my kids. Be aware of everything: Smells, sounds, count the number of turns in vehicle if blind folded, counting steps in your head, notice how the ground feels under your feet, tattoos, scars, facial hair, number of windows and if any are open, don’t let the kidnappers know if you managed to get untied and wait until you can escape, scream and yell if you can to alert good strangers,if your sitting upwards in vehicle try to look out window and mouth the words “help” or a crazy look to inform vehicles at stop sign/light next to you that your in danger. Try to leave something a finger print, hair,a piece of clothing, jewelry,a sock, spit or a lil blood drop, something anywhere you can to help lead investigators of whereabouts.Same goes for attacks too. Scratch the hell out of the killer so DNA can be found under nails, biting can now help to collect DNA too. Nowadays DNA can be pulled from anything. Everyone teach your kids as much as you can because crazies are everywhere.

@Jordan Blythe slumber party should have been cancelled. Migraines are miserable, but if you have kids over you are responsible for them and can’t drug yourself into la-la land.
The incident when the baby sitter who confronted Richard Allan Davis and called the property owner could have saved Polly. The deputies who were called to the scene failed to determine that Davis was a convicted felon, sex offender, kidnapper, on parole and had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
The video says that these cops did not have the technology to do that, could only check stuff like his driving license ect, this is not far of 30 years ago.
Davis lied and minimized what he did....he had been stalking Polly for some time and knew the family's routine, he just hadn't been expecting a sleepover that night. He denied sexually assaulting Polly - the whole reason he abducted her. He made it all seem an accident, circumstance that got out of control. The fact is if he hadn't been caught on that second property, he was likely casing it so he could abduct that child as well. That mother was quick thinking in getting her child out of the house and driving away after the warning from her nanny from a call box.

@@albertawheat6832 So according to you they must get an easy way out compared to their victims? Do you know how painful , let's say strangulation is? As the pressure builds in your head, like a headache, you can feel the blood vessels in your eyes start to pop, your eyes fill with blood, some victims can see the blood in their vision. As your body slowly struggles for oxygen, it starts taking it away from your muscles in your limbs, these muscles start cramping, then your organs start shutting down, as your body tries to get oxygen from every part it can (a kidney stone is a piece of cake compared to this), organ failure is pretty painful, your lungs burn because they arent getting the intake of oxygen needed . It also takes some time before the victim actually passes away. I actually studied death's effects on the body, I actually know what victims go through, try going to a morgue or watch an autopsy of a victim. Maybe next time you want to be a keyboard warrior, you should realize some people have more knowledge on the subject than you do. One of my former coworker's had a second job down the road from where we worked in Santa Rosa, CA. She worked overnight at a placement home for girls and one of the girls ran away so she called the police. When he arrived, he said it felt strange being in that area again 'cause he said when the polly klaus case was happening, right there by her job was where they believe he actually killed her and left some of her belongings before dumping her body in a different location. She didn't know about the polly klaus case and was so shook by this information and so she started researching that night. She was so upset from what she read about Richard Allen Davis that she actually wrote to him! And he wrote back! She showed me the actual letter! He said he heard voices telling him to kill and he just wanted to get rid of the voices. He was a creep and I think he wrote one more letter but my coworker was so creeped out, she never wrote again. Every time I hear about this story, I remember that incident.
I was two years older than Polly in 1982, this is the first big true crime case I followed. All these years later I still come back and think of all the sightings of him just hanging out in her neighborhood. Maybe those people that saw him didn''t think it was strange but in today's world he'd have half the neighbors over there third degreeing him. I was always taught to be aware of my surroundings, how do you do that when it's your own bedroom? Poor Polly never had a chance.
TF is wrong with people making false calls to the family when a child’s life is at stake? How can that be a joke? Not only interfering with the safe return of that child but taking resources away from the case, reducing the chances of detecting the kidnapper, and therefore putting many more lives at risk as he escapes capture and continues to ruin lives. Saddening and infuriating to hear of this case; the kidnap and murder of anyone, particularly a child, is a vile act. And knowing that regular citizens chose to hinder the investigation rather than to help makes it all the more sickening. My heart goes out to Polly and her loved ones.

That jackh*le cut the fabric into strips ahead of time, staked out the house, etc. His story was utter b.s. and the entire tragedy could and SHOULD have been avoided, if only he had been dealt with appropriately by the justice system previously.
Millions of kids have sleepovers and nothing happens, your kids are at greater risk of dying in a car accident. Children are statistically in more danger at home with a family member than over at a friend's house. Seriously, "stranger danger" is much less of a problem than family danger.
Really? This is the only case I've heard of a child being abducted from a sleepover. If you do have one, I wouldn't recommend knocking yourself out with sleeping pills like the mother did though - not because this could happen again, but there should always be a responsible adult available.
it was just a man walking up to a house. How many times do you have normal guests over? Has anyone ever called the police on your guests? How were these people supposed to know? It wasn't like he was lurking around with a mask and a crowbar
In this area the houses are very compact: it's right near a park, 711 and bus station: so there are a lot of "suspicious" looking people around, the town is also a very keep to themself type , not really people who call the cops on anything "weird"
I'm surprised, how humans behave, so many people saw this evil looking man, that even on broad daylight would look suspicious and scary to me and I consider myself tough enough man, lurking at night in at polly's house on the middle of the night and nobody alerted police, yet again, they call police for pranks diverting their leads and investigations, strange world, And the other thing, why did it take police so long to catch him, sure enough they new his description there were 50000 posters put up,so the cops that stopped him on the driveway, they didn't know at that time how about day after or week after,if they had acted quickly, there was a chance she would of been alive.Rest In Heavens little Angel
I've googled but can't find any information about the young woman prank calling pretending to be Polly. It takes either a particularly vicious bully to do this TWICE, or/and a very abused child. I hope the girl got help and counseling, or appropriate punishment. weird. Poor Polly.
Charlotta, these kids who finds amusement in adding to other peoples tragedies, are disturbed. No help will help them, they are destroyed. Wonder what her life turned out to be...
Not really; kids and teenagers haven’t fully developed empathy at that age. Most of them have no problem acting like complete sociopaths. Teenagers are cruel.
a healthy child will develop a first sense for right or wrong around four years of age. sure, children can be cruel or play cruel "pranks" without bad intentions even after that, but I can assure you from a children's psychologist point of you that this is not normal behaviour.

The 20yr old was arrested but why not the teen? She should have been made an example of and labelled as stupid by her daring friends. Too many crazies out there exploiting people's hurt and wasting police time. Also, so many neighbors saw the man loitering on private property and did nothing.
Wow, people calling her house pretending to be her or the kidnapper? That was weird, hope those people were charged.

Their is another quote which supports the way the animals are created and protected too. Even if you don’t believe in Jesus those are good quotes.
I believe that once you are given the death penalty, you get one year to find new evidence and if nothing comes of it , amf to them. EXECUTE THEM!!!!! They need to be gone , like their victims are. It's been overturned by Newsome to life.
Omg!!!!! You've got to be kidding me. Bring him to me!!!!! I'm not joking. He's non human!!!
I think he used her stockings to blindfold her, because they found hair on them.

That was incredibly stupid and irresponsible on the mother's part. If she was having such a bad migraine, she should have postponed the sleep over for another night...
@Jordan Blythe slumber party should have been cancelled. Migraines are miserable, but if you have kids over you are responsible for them and can’t drug yourself into la-la land.

Please, if you're nosy enough to notice some odd person lurking on someone's property, call the police immediately. Be a good neighbor.
I like to call it, COMMON SENSE!!
The incident when the baby sitter who confronted Richard Allan Davis and called the property owner could have saved Polly. The deputies who were called to the scene failed to determine that Davis was a convicted felon, sex offender, kidnapper, on parole and had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
@@minniekay240 iiii
@@minniekay240 🥱
The video says that these cops did not have the technology to do that, could only check stuff like his driving license ect, this is not far of 30 years ago.
AND was drinking and driving
Davis lied and minimized what he did....he had been stalking Polly for some time and knew the family's routine, he just hadn't been expecting a sleepover that night. He denied sexually assaulting Polly - the whole reason he abducted her. He made it all seem an accident, circumstance that got out of control. The fact is if he hadn't been caught on that second property, he was likely casing it so he could abduct that child as well. That mother was quick thinking in getting her child out of the house and driving away after the warning from her nanny from a call box.
Where are you getting this information?
In India we have special surveillance everywhere. They are called aunties, grannies and so on. Basically they will sit at window and look outside. Try to investigate everyone😂. They do it for gossip material 👃 or just out of curiosity, it's annoying but good as this way they keep a check on neighborhood. This made me think a lot. Love you aunties and grannies ❤️🤗
Yes!! And that's what's wrong with us now. Where are they? I need when there was a new van in town because of them ladies.🥰 Gossip or not.

what kind of mother takes sleeping pills when girls are having a sleepover? Migrane or not, your daughter and her friends could've needed something and she's knocked out. imo, that mom dropped the ball. She could've called a family friend to take over sleepover mom duties.🤦
Wtf those ppl calling in those fake calls, her classmates!, that ransome (by James Heard), I hope these people were charged. And, thank you to the police, FBI and anyone who worked on this, especially that lady that called the police.
Exactly! I’ve never gone to sleep before my kids. I’ve also refused sleep aids because i don’t want to be so out of it that I don’t hear a scream. I’d rather suffer through my migraines.
At the very least, the mother should have postponed the sleep over for another night, if her migraine was that bad...
@Jordan Blythe because she was too doped up to protect her kid. Should have postponed the sleepover. Definitely should have closed and locked all doors and windows, JFC.
@Jordan Blythe mom should have cancelled it. No excuses. As the only adult, she was responsible for three girls. Either spend the night in misery without drugs, or cancel and send everyone home.
13 year olds are pretty self sufficient, they don’t need supervising and no one expects this sort of thing. And it might not have ended any differently if she has been awake.
The FIRST time a human in society takes someone’s child they should be cancelled, they should never to be let out of jail. That’s rule one amongst us all.
Imagine the strength it takes to not just walk up and shoot these people and not be a doing a favor to us all.

When someone admits to a crime that is attached to the death penalty, why do we have criminals sitting on death row? Makes absolutely no sense

Why keep these bastards alive so long??? Makes no sense from any perspective
Agreed, but they should die the same way their victims did. eye for an eye. Lethal injection and Electric chair are too easy
@@notamusedboosh So I guess according to you, Someone in society should be just like him ? to deem it justice ? Okay then. Thanks for sharing that with us.
Are you still ok with them getting it easy compared to the trauma their victims face? You aren't as ignorant as to think that lethal injections or electric chairs just start themselves right? @@notamusedboosh I never said that, But I don't think someone should have to cut him up and eat him or burn him or throw him to the sharks or whatever the method he used....Only you implied that, that someone working for the penal system or government, should be equally as screwed up as the perpetrator, to kill him the same way, that he killed his victim....So yes I think you are wrong.

He literally said the first 24 hours are the most critical, and within that time frame a missing child would already be harmed, or even dead.
Voices? Yeah right
“There was ice cream In the fridge” wow wow wow
I lived in Petaluma when this happened and I had a 7 year old daughter! It was beyond scary!

The only thing that monster didn't plan for was getting his car stuck. Some beer and a little weed and he has convenient amnesia. That jackh*le cut the fabric into strips ahead of time, staked out the house, etc. His story was utter b.s. and the entire tragedy could and SHOULD have been avoided, if only he had been dealt with appropriately by the justice system previously.
That’s why I don’t let my daughter do sleepovers. I’m too scared for something like this to happen or something else.
Millions of kids have sleepovers and nothing happens, your kids are at greater risk of dying in a car accident. Children are statistically in more danger at home with a family member than over at a friend's house. Seriously, "stranger danger" is much less of a problem than family danger.
Don’t rob her of simple child hood things because when she grows up she will always remember my mother never let me spend the night at friends house.

it was just a man walking up to a house.

And the other thing, why did it take police so long to catch him, sure enough they new his description there were 50000 posters put up,so the cops that stopped him on the driveway, they didn't know at that time how about day after or week after,if they had acted quickly, there was a chance she would of been alive.Rest In Heavens little Angel
