Yes, I was thinking how she said they make sure to tell the public there's four guys who are equally creative but really they screwed Michael and made him sign a contract as a salaried musician and got zero royalties. I just finished Noel Monks book running with the devil and EVH did Michael bogus when Monk was fired and DLR left. If you're a band who constantly has to tell people they get along, its more than likely they're not getting along. You can tell a lot by AVH too he looks like an asshole lol.
Van Halen is my favorite band - Eddie made me pick up the guitar - but it was not an equal relationship between the four members. That’s just the truth and it’s fine because equality is a myth. This is practically true for every kind of group: some people are simply more productive in terms of what is the end result. Eddie and Alex were the significant portion of the band, hence the name. Eddie wrote the vast majority of the music and was the innovative genius behind it all. That’s not to say anyone could just be part of the band and it would just work, which made Mike and Sammy (and Roth) important, but there are weights to the contributing factors. Neither Roth nor Mike nor even Sammy would’ve made as much money in life if they weren’t part of the band.
Sammy Hagar had and still woukd be very prosperous with ir without VH. HE WAS HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL BEFORE VH ABD BRANCHED OUT INT😂O MANY SMART BUSINESS CHOICE INVESTMENTS .HE PROVED THAT.
You can kind of hear Sammy hinting at the truth in all of these interviews, honestly. The clips from the "Balance-era" are the most telling, but he lets some things slip in earlier interviews, too. I think there was always tension behind the scenes.

Michael "Mikey" Anthony Sobolewski (Chicago, Illinois; 20 de junio de 1954) es un músico estadounidense, conocido principalmente por su trabajo de bajista y corista de la banda de hard rock Van Halen.
ultimately it was Eddie and Alex's band so they could do whatever they wanted, humans are complicated, even more so the more successful they got I am sure, band drama aside, I have loved every single album for many different reasons.
No, no, they're not a band that gets along. They're a family band that is dominated by two brothers, going through lead singers. Sorry, that's a family corporation.
01:12 Sammy was speaking a lot of truth in regard to Eddie’s temperament. Just listen to the way that Eddie spun the story about how Sammy and David left the band.. 🤔
Alex was always in Edward’s ear getting him fired up. Alex also had divorces, spent money on a rubber room in his house. When he needed $, which was often, he got Eddie and others to try to cut Michael’s pay. He got his wife’s brother as a manager. The whole Cabo Wabo debacle. I’ve felt he played Eddie. Not that he didn’t love him, but Alex kept the pot stirred and I think ruined the band. He got the same pay even though he didnt technically write songs either like Mike. But, he was Edward’s brother so he got his cut and wanted more. Most fans don’t want to hear it or believe it, but I’ve noticed it for decades. Also various books I’ve read about the band. He even dragged Eddie on the road when he was strung out on meth/crack or whatever he was doing. He got divorce and needed $ (Alex) and the tour was a disaster in 2004. They isolated themselves and ran everyone off in various ways. After VH3 it was over. Then of course the cancer which was unfortunate. I wish they could have kept it together. It was always them against everyone else. Their treatment of Mike was pathetic.
Ahhh yes, I remember. Just as the Honeymoon was about to be over... look closely at a couple of the facial reactions it tells a bigger story that Arthel didn't see, or pretended not to see. Cant take anything away what they did though. I C O N I C
This guy made 25% for 6 very lucrative years; that's why he keeps his mouth shut and why you people should shut up about Mike getting shafted, as if he did, the mofo is loaded
Man, Ed and Al were so full of crap in this interview. Just look at the photo in the Best of album. Eddie’s guitars are prominently featured in the guitar, vocalist, and bassist positions. It was the Van Halen’s way of conveying we’re the band and everyone else is along for the ride. It’s really a shame. They crapped on Roth for years only to bookend their career with him.
Sammy always trash talking Al and Ed. Not cool what he says here. Sammy still wonders in 2024 why Al won't return Sammy's phone call. Sammy forgot what he said about Al and Ed in his book.
That's an idiotic statement. But, who KNOWS Holdsworth? It's a niche crowd. The guy wrote music that 99.9% of people didn't connect with. His music didn't sell well, neither did his tours. He died broke, and struggled financially throughout his career. What good is a talent if you can't find a way to make it connect with people? I'm a guitarist. I respect Holdsworth, but can't listen to him. I've tried. There's just nothing there that grabs your ear or your soul. Amazing player. But, he lacked the key ingredient of connecting with his music.
It's a joke. I love Van Halen (1978 -1984) pure gold! Van Hagar is horseshit though. Consider this (A person only hears what they understand) Johann Wolfgang von Goethe@@e.l.norton
@@pleximanic It's not a question of hearing. It's a question of connecting emotionally with the music. Ed took some of Holdsworth's influence and infused it with a feel and human connection that nothing of Holdsworth's ever really had. As amazing a player as he was, Holdsworth lacked the most key ingredient; that X-factor that a player like Ed had, or a Gilmour. You can't learn that.
Valerie said that whole thing getting back together with Roth was about going out and playing with their son and letting him experience the Van Halen years, so to speak.
They were huge 91-95...during grunge era!
Amazing!!
Don't get me wrong, Eddie is my hero but I always watch Mike in these interviews and his face tells a thousand words.
Ain't that the truth. I bet Mike would be a lousy poker player... 🤷♂️
Thought the same

Sammy and Mike seem like very down to earth guys, even though they have earned their millions.
5150 percent incredible
“We all contribute equally.” First time I heard that from them.
Happier times
Priceless stuff! Thanks for sharing.

These type of interviews are hard to watch if you know what really went on.
To be fair, the problems only really started around 1995-1996. They were still at least somewhat happy together at this point
You can kind of hear Sammy hinting at the truth in all of these interviews, honestly. The clips from the "Balance-era" are the most telling, but he lets some things slip in earlier interviews, too. I think there was always tension behind the scenes.
Nothing was wrong here they were still in love
Great video , thanks for posting.

Van Halen will always be my fav band but it's so cringe to watch this today knowing that the VH brothers were the problem in this band.
IKR. They always said it was the other guy and they were the problem

Alex with that 'tache, looks like a mafia hitman.
Could this be one of the better VH interviews?
Wish he would’ve stop smoking those dam cigarettes 😇😇😇😇
They are a band that really gets along?...Lol
Don’t Worry About It
they went against virtually every viewpoint they expressed in this video

Not four equals Eddie sorry! You stripped Mike’s “equal” percentages way back in 1984!
It was such a dick move

While only 2 are interviewed
Exactly what I was thinking. Makes me feel like this whole interview is BS. They're just lying.
@goodquestion1105 Good work completely missing his point.
They claim equality but it's all a lie
You know they did her after the interview 😂
So Sad 😞

Alex and Ed sound alike. Well they are brothers so duh.
No video
...they busted up less then 2 years later. there hot, there young and there over....

Sammy is telling truth. Just look at Michael Anthony's face
Such a shame they NEVER reunited again. Crazy.
The studio albums with Roth blow Sammy era out of the water, but the Sammy era live is so much better... IMO
Hey Alex! Allan Holdsworth's compositions make Van Halen songs sound like children's music
