8:13 "Klaus: Yes. Those were not your present forms, but alternate possibilities. Your other selves that lie within. That is what I wanted to see. Zeke: Our other selves? You mean we're all thinking stuff like that deep down? Was that how we really feel? Nia: Then you saw it too? Zeke: Looks like we were all shown the same kind of stuff. It creeped me out! What're you trying to prove? Klaus: ...Those were the fears you harbor... Zeke: I don't get it at all!" I don't think it is exactly what they think but rather their fears/inner demons/alternate possibilities (somewhat like Moebius and how everyone has a Moebius inside them and we saw how different N and Noah are)
That scene is still so interesting to me, so many people interpret the illusions as Rex's fear of how the others see him. I always just saw the illusions as alternate possibilities of the actual characters like Klaus said, possibly based on past or suppressed feelings
For what its worth, in regards to the phantasm scene, those aren't the things in each individual character's darkest corners, rather they're what *Rex* thinks of them. The things he's afraid they think about him. That's why most of them are aggressively out of character suddenly, because they aren't what they actually think. This is Rex's perspective we're seeing, everyone else saw phantasms of their own, but their own fears and doubts that we aren't privy to, because they aren't the main character.
Also I was always under the impression that the phantasm scene was not the parties deeper thoughts, but simply Rex’ insecurities about how his friends might think of him in this position.
Yup that seems correct. Me (and the only other xeno fan that I had read over the script) interpreted it as it being insecurities and fears of the party members. We talked about it being Rex's insecurities but felt Nia's then didn't make sense. Should've looked into it more
@@kouzeonIt's not the party's "true" thoughts, but rather more like their inner Moebius - the parts of themselves that feels resentful or bitter over the various misfortunes they've faced, or hopeless and afraid in the face of uncertainty. They aren't Tora and Poppi's true feelings, but rather their true doubts - doubts they have all overcome.
In the phantasm sequence, those weren't the real Tora or Poppi or any of the other characters. Those were manifestations of Rex's fears about them. Which kinda makes me love Tora even more since it means that Rex couldn't think of any reason for Tora or Zeke to turn on him other than the stupid ones that they had.
My guy, the phantasm scene is about Rex's insecurities, and at no point do we see what Tora was shown or what he thinks, Zeke even says "we were all shown the same kind of stuff" 🙃
Tora is 12 and not only managed to become a driver, but an extremely busted driver at that. He reverse-engineered a proto-Kosmos. Later he designs something that's almost as powerful as the Conduit. Riku who had thousands of years of time couldn't reach the level of Tora. Tora deserves respect.
You entirely missed the point of the phantasm scene - it's not people's "true" feelings, but rather their ids. The doubt they've been suppressing. Their inner Moebius, as it were. It's not supposed to reflect their character development or their true beliefs, but rather what they could be if they let the doubts they harbor define them. Tora and Poppi overcame their inadequacy, just as Nia overcame her doubt, helplessness, and need for external validation and purpose, and just as Morag overcame her fears, resentment and cynicism. The same is true of Zeke and Pandoria. The scene doesn’t show who they are - it shows the shadow of who they've chosen not to be.
Tora was a decent character in the story but damn he was done dirty with his heart to hearts. From him having a bunny costume for Poppi, a 'dog mode to walk with her in the park' and the whole Blushy Crushy thing... With almost every heart to heart centered around him I came to like him less, while it was the opposite with literally every other character in the series
"dog mode" in japanese doesn't make any mention of , she talks like an "onii-chan gambatte" little sister, and appends -wan to everything she says. There's no mention of walking anyone in the park and tora says something more along the lines of "People will get suspicious of that personality" but zeke's like "is that your fukkin hobby"
i don’t like him for this reason. sure, he may be “written well” but i just find him really obnoxious and weird. basically everything wrong with anime 😂
2:10 unpopular opinion: Am I the only one who ACTUALLY found this scene legitimately funny? 4:09 Which makes sense considering last chapter (canonically speaking) and into Chapter 8, Poppi’s “evolution” into being more human emotionally wise has reached its peak. Ergo, making her more human like in appearance is the natrual course of action for Poppi. That and Tora needs all the power he can get to help Rex and the others fight the final battles. Even if Poppi QTPI technically isn’t canon to the story, it makes sense. 6:09 Thus Tora is canonically the only party member in XC2 that serves as a Tank 7:35 Tora reminds me a lot of Asta from Black Clover in that regard. 8:18 If there is one thing I wish the Phantasm sequence did, it’s go into the physiological minds of the other party members. Imagine Nia having Rex call her out for not using her powers to save Vandham, Rex and the others when she should have. Or Morag with not being able to save Niail, with Rex “hating” her for chasing him down to get Pyra. Zeke having insecurities over his own strength, relationship with Pandoria, and his relationship with his father. Or Tora getting called out for his perverted antics… 8:34 You do have to keep in mind that the Tora talking to Rex in that scene wasn’t Tora. It was a Phantom of Rex’s insecurities and doubts. Not Tora’s. 10:41 Which a huge reason why Tora’s character takes a bit of an L for me. The ONLY reason why like him more than Morag is for two big reasons. 1. I love Tora’s premise as a character. 2. Poppi carries his character. In fact, Tora creating Poppi is the key player in most situations. Poppi was able to carry Pyra onto the ship in Chapter 2. Poppi being an Artificial Blade helped break free of Tantal’s prison cells (with help from Morag admittedly) and Poppi and her forms are unaffected by the Spirit Crucible’s Blade dampening powers (including Haze’s ability that Amalthus was using). And finally helping Rex and Pneuma stop Amalthus’s Titan Controlling Tower.
While Addam was great he was a bit of Coward which he acknowledged that feared the Aegies's power too afraid to use it to its fullest and help her defeat Malos
After my boy riki a loving father of 11 spends time with all of them and even adopted one and wanted to adopt shulk and reyn. Then in comes tora creep.
Tora's a child in his cringe era. He'll grow out of it. The developers were definitely disrespectful in the way they portrayed that part of him, though, sacrificing other characters' dignity in order to excessively build up Tora's most unsightly character flaw. They could've kept it to like 5% of what they did and the point would've been made and Tora would have been a better character for it, but ah well.
Riki was a father of 11 that had crippling debt that he only managed to unwillingly pay off due to the chief forcing him to help out the party. On top of that, he got a crush on Melia while still being married to Oka. Riki is hardly lacking in gags made at the expense of his character integrity, but people seem to sweep that under the rug to dig at Tora's gags more.
riki is genuinely a kind of stupid unfocused guy who makes a lot of mistakes and is a burden to his peers who the narrative unfairly treats like a hero, and tora is the opposite being a kid who means well unfairly villainized by the narrative and you managed to fall for both lmao

@@MaxMonadoThis. It's more akin to the cast's inner Moebius, not how they really feel nor how Rex feels about them.
Anyone willing to photobomb another game’s art book wearing only a thong is clearly a good character
What?
I know the Tora thong, but what?
@@corrinflakes9659 That's where the image comes from lol, it was in DE's artbook
