Is it possible to survive the Old Birds on Embrion? (Answer: Yes)

- The Old Birds in Lethal Company are now being regarded as the game’s most dangerous entity. I don’t think they’re that bad and just have a learning curve, so Nico and I went to Embrion to learn how to survive them best. We also tried to full clear the moon as a side mission.
I understand why people would think the Old Birds are unfair, but that was also the opinion about forest keepers for a while. And while the forest keepers DID get nerfed, it wasn’t impossible to play around them even before the radar booster and before their aggro range and pathing changes.
So next up is learning how to play against the Old Bird, and instead of joining the choir of nonbelievers I’d rather just learn how to actually play against them. And I’m sure we’ll have some answers sooner rather than later!

fun fact: an eclipse on a moon in real life is usually caused by the planet the moon orbits obscuring the sun causing a lunar eclipse, so I would presume the "moon" you talked about is actually the planet Embrion orbits blocking the sun, thought i'd share this very specific fact lol
since planets are so much bigger i guess it makes sense why eclipses happen so much

Embrion is probably the planet that is eclipsing the moon at the start of the run. so the moon austin was on was the 5th moon of the planet Embrion.
usually for naming moons of planets, they give the moon a number (ex: planet_name - number) the number signifying either the number in orbit of the planet, or the number on which place the moon has been found.

Embrion is basically a troll moon: basically combining the loot of Experimentation with twice the difficulty of Artifice
Taking the apparatus immediately activates all onactive old birds, not that it matters much during an eclipse

This moon is actually really fun when all of them are activated, if you do it right the rockets can make you go flying without actually damaging you so it ends up being really fun

My first encounter with the Easter Egg was it immediately killing me the first time I dropped it. I was really surprised at how casual Austin was dropping them, I just throw them as far as I can now
My very first experience with Old Birds AND this planet were done in VR, during an eclipse.
Imagine my horror when I stuck my head outside to see my friend in the claws of one of them, screaming as they were being burned alive.
This game's a gem
The giant is still the worst enemy and I will fight people on this. A planet covered in giants would be borderline unsurvivable unless you have that EMP blast thing, whatever it's called
Radar booster
Giants just have zero counterplay that isn't a finite resource, they annoy me so much
@@TheSilly6403 Exactly!! You can counterplay the robots even if you haven't spent a cent and nobody is in the ship. Giants? Somebody has to ping the radar in the ship, and to begin with you need to have a radar booster at all. And you have to carry it around with you, wasting space. Robots? Just takes practice and you can dodge them. I actually ran directly beside one earlier while carrying bottles, and I'm pretty sure I was one shot away from death. I lived! If it were a giant I would have absolutely died.
Luckily the giant robots hate giants even more and will light them up
but what if, it also spawned OLD BIRDS(they kill da giants)

One of my friends insisted we go to Embrion on an Eclipse because it would be funny.
Imagine our shock when he actually MADE IT BACK.
I guess a viable counter play is the jet pack. Getting from ship to location in the shortest amount of time, leaving it outside and making multiple trips outrunning the giants

I’ve used a jet pack on the planet, and I totally agree. Our strat was somebody’s in facility while the other carries loot back to the ship in just like 5 seconds, and you don’t get detected.
yeah jetpack solves pretty much every outdoor issue in the game, even with the flying Old Birds, and I like getting one whenever I can on my regular runs
I’m trying out non-Jetpack strategies though since you typically can’t afford a jetpack during an ironman challenge, and that’s the main context that I’ll find myself on this moon to begin with (will also need to save up for a jetpack on Embrion only runs)

my first play through of embrion was on a foggy map which all the bots active and foggy weather, i will never recover from that day..
yeah my first round was yesterday and the same thing happened. the previous round I had encountered my first old bird and was jumpscared bad by it, so they took me there to see how I would react. I certainly did react.
we need more videos of the old birds idk why but im so fascinated with them
Militarized robots who stay on the planet they land on for their entire lives, who wouldn't get fascinated by them?
I feel like the entity itself isn’t OP but the sheer amount of them that just crowd the ship if you’re there for a while is a little too much

I think this moon is fine the way it is though, it’s a reminder that Lethal Company isn’t supposed to be taken so seriously and it’s lore-accurate to the hopelessness of working for the company, lol
@@sheffaustin I love that aspect of it for sure. The moon’s design is sick and the old bird is totally one of the coolest designs. It’ll be interesting to see how the counter play develops! It’s nice to see more challenge that isn’t totally beginner unfriendly by being on every moon 💀

The crying baby is never fitting when you see them XD I have only played artifice so far, and that was hell and a half.
i think a good balancing factor would be if old birds were able to be stunned by the terminal for a short time because as they are right now they're a bit too strong esp in large numbers, and taking apparatus out should, like doors inside, stop you from disabling them as well
My friend and I made up a game for when we don’t make quota, where we just go to embrion and see how long you can run around the old birds. Record is 5:00 pm. You learn some crazy techniques on how to survive then, and it’s much easier than you’d think. They are HUGE idiots and their aim is suprisingly bad, so if you zig zag just right while it’s shooting at you it will often miss, also running around a large rock until it de-agros works when there’s only one or two sometimes.

I actually survived eclipsed Embrion, and even brought some loot back to the ship, oldbirds are tricky to get around, but I usually go straight to the entrance and avoid the rockets
If you go far right for a little while you can find an area where you can clip under the map. You can safely walk under the map until you reach the ships where you can sprint jump onto the ladder and climb up. Sadly can’t take any large items this way as you won’t be able to climb the ladder
That last part was so clutch Nico ran in at the literal last possible second

for the eclipse to happen, it can also be the planet that the moon is orbiting. If you're on the planet it would be a lunar eclipse, but for the moon it's a solar eclipse. Lunar eclipse's are more common cus planets and bigger and so cover up the sun more commonly than the moon perfectly covering up the sun for the planet.

I’ve only made it back with a 2 handed item once on foot. A few helpful rocket blasts later and I’m half dead at the ship with an engine worth 44 and ptsd

hopefully old birds will have a high power level to only make 1 spawn, or atleast have it to where it goes for one attack cycle before having to have a cooldown phase before attacking again to balance it

You could try a no storeitems ironman with the Spawnable_Store_Items mod that lets you config storeitems to spawn on moons
They need to buff embrion to maybe have just a little less scrap then rend.

Me and a buddy went to Embrion just to test it out and I shit you not we got so unlucky two of the old birds immediately woke up as we opened the doors to the ship, we went a couple more times after and never actually got the immediate wake up again
Me and my friends tried this thought it was easy without eclipse. It got ecplised and 2 out of 4 of us died before even reaching the damn door!

i think turning off the ship lights actually help for some reason
my friend and I actually survived emb with 2 jetpacks, tho I died because I was too nervous and my jetpack exploded

that wouldn’t really work they play differently, use different mods, etc
I feel like Mithzan’s content style is too different. Love them both but it probably wouldn’t work

Embrion had a max of 450 to be found when I went there and with the old birds why would you go there I went and had 2 old birds land on me when I was at the main entrance and they got stuck I expected them to land on the top of the building
I can't stop thinking about the name "Embrion" because in Spanish "Embrión" means "Embryo" and I'm 100% sure it has to do something with the lore
The lore for the old birds lists Embrion as being where they were tested, so calling it their "embryo" isn't wrong

Yeeeesh not only are the new enemies hard on the ears, they seem really difficult to deal with. Personally idk how I feel about this part of the update, it feels very similar to some of the unbalanced modded enemies I've seen. It's difficult just for difficulty's sake, there doesn't seem to be reasonable counterplay...at least for now

since other moons have way less of them than this and they're able to take out other outside mobs, i think it's a cool concept. might need tweaking if things like stun grenades have no effect though, there should be some way to escape if spotted.

Lethal Company is about a bunch of cloned idiots in orange jumpsuits collecting scrap for a cosmic horror in the ruins of a frontier star system. Not only is humanity doing pretty badly, but most of these planets (and moons) have been involved in at least one major interplanetary war, and the remnants of this can be found on multiple moons: Jesters, Coilheads, and the Old Birds. This is the vibe Zeekers is staying with: cosmic horror space exploration in industrial complexes with equally horrid monsters. I understand why you think these new additions are a bit disruptive, but they’ll probably be balanced by the full release of the update. Sorry for the long paragraph.

I really hope there's more to the actual V50 update. It's pretty underwhelming
Personally, I'd disagree, considering most other updates so far have had similar or less content. These are supposed to be more common (with the occasional exclusion of some updates like v50) and smaller updates, generally to balance out the time adding, fixing, and balancing, less so all-out huge content updates like most more popular games.
Two new enemies three new moons? How is that underwhelming
