When a DM is forced to inhabit a specific NPC so frequently it’s easy to think of them as their own PC. Brennan seems to have had the opposite reaction in terms of Gilear.
We hate the people who mirror our negative aspects.

As a matter of fact, Brennan is tired of thinking as Gilear and he desperately tries to kill him hoping that no-one will resurrect him once again.
I think Brennan simply hates actually playing Gilear and loves being the world that tortures him and honestly? I’d feel the same way in his position lmaoo

I'd actually challenge his answer, as the Astral plane is a place driven by will and intelect you would not be moved by the physical expusion of matter. You may be moved by the release you feel, causing you to move away from the source.
@@jonsimpson6240 Arguably in a place driven by will and matter, the purely physical phenomenon are almost if not completely irrelevant. In many means of astral travel there isn't even a physical body or 'matter' present, just a spiritual representation of those things. An argument could be made that you would move because your mind tells you that you should be moving, but the fact that this question even needs to be asked suggests that many peoples' minds do NOT tell them this.

Gilear has basically become the Rincewind of Fantasy High. Emily is Fate, giving him her favor but also forcing him into dangerous situations because of it, while Brennan is the raw energy and chaos of the world itself trying to kill him.

Gilear is the Chosen One. When the prophesied day of his true death arrives, (not just temporary death, as Gilear hath often died and hath risen again), much like Bill Seacaster became a powerful Devil, Gilear shalt become an almighty God.

I need more Brennan in general, I don't really care what he talks about, I could listen to him for hours, his voice is so helpful with my depression. And I love the way he gestures with his hands, I've never seen anyone else with such expressive handmotion abilities and I'm partly Italien 😂

Brennan's professionalism in the face of some awe inspiring questions is incredibly commendable. I do truly believe he will kill Gilear, and that will be that. Truly stupendous.
He already has killed Gilear. Four times. The fact that it hasn't been able to stick just proves that he's the Chosen One.
Honestly, gilear is my favorite npc and I legit think Brennan trying to kill him makes for funny gameplay/role-playing and also spurs creative means with which to either attempt to keep gilear safe or try to hide him in battle or trying to get him revived and it never disappoints its always hilarious. Also " Let me assure you, demon... I HAVE NO PRIDE!" will always be some of my favorite lines in dimension 20 history.

Great characters are born out of conflict. What makes Gilear an absolutely fantastic character is the sheer number of conflicts in his path and the absurdity of said conflicts. Gilear would disappear into obscurity if an extraplanar being wasn't deliberately messing with him on a constant level and he wasn't being rescued and ridiculed by a ragtag team of heroic teenagers.
So, you go for it Brennan. You go for the kill. Take his bones. It will make our victory all the sweeter.

You know what, I'm gonna say this. I've developed a major crush on Brennan when I first watched D20. Previously, I just thought he looked weird, now when I see him my heart goes bump-bump. I love this talented man.
Been binging dimension 20 since I've been quarantined. This is awesome, a little ray of sunshine in the formless grey eternity that is my apartment.
I love the advice about not worrying about every rule. You know what you do if you think you need a rule for something the player wants to do and you don't know it? Make it up my dude. You know those moments when Brennan just takes a second, thinks, then just says "Okay give me an flat [stat] roll" that's just deciding what check makes sense, set a DC in your head based on how hard you think it is... and move on with the game. I also really love how often Brennan just says "hell yeah you can definitely try to do that" even knowing its bonkers or difficult. Cause doing wacky shit is fun... and honestly failing to do wacky shit is also often fun.

this kinda works for other things too, like if you really want your players to notice something, have them all roll a perception check and then let the highest roller 'pass'
The funniest thing is that Gilear has been killed several times, I lost count around 3 or 4, it's just never stuck. You can kill Gilear as many times as you want. Doesn't mean he'll stay dead.
When he said he gonna go kill Gilear I both chuckled and teared up from sadness. Poor Gilear

I mean he did kill gilear several times, yet somehow in a universe brennan controls, his will doesn't matter in this case and Gilear is still alive and... well I wouldn't say kicking but hes there alright
movement within the astral plane is relative but based on your will. so nutting in the astral will push you back only if you believe it will.

Will there be a Junior Year for Fantasy High (i.e. a third Season?)
I believe junior year has been confirmed, though I think they're working on it so there'll at least be crown of candy and then maybe a side quest before we join the bad kids once more
Jason Bryant there’s a screenshot going around the D20 subreddit where someone commented on a video asking if they would do Junior year, and the D20 TH-cam channel responded saying they are already working on it!

They’re live streaming it on the dimension 20 channel, Wednesdays 7pm EST. I think the episodes are also up on dropout but I’m not sure on that.
I assumed the Night Yorb ending was a way of Brennan saying "It's over". If they do do one, and I hope they do, I really hope their quest isn't the damned night yorb.
The one thing i'd say isn't wholly true here: your players might not *explicitly* tell you what they want. Players often don't *know* what they want. They often *think* they want +7 vorpal katanas. They don't. They want the quest to *get* their family's sacred weapon.
So yes, ask your players what they want... but then interpret that. Ask yourself what they *really* want. And it's usually, unless you and your players are experienced enough to be confident anyway, the story of *getting* what they want, with setbacks and challenges and the real possibility of failure.
This is such great advice! As an experienced player, I still find myself wanting to minmax my character, before I remember that the game is most fun when I don’t actually get what I want without serious challenge.
Brennan, I am sure you hear this all the time, but I fucking love you. XD you are a huge inspiration to me as a DM, and have given me hundreds of ideas on how to change how I play, which is really impressive considering I've been playing for 23 years.

This is super late haha but in case it helps you or anyone else, I recommend looking into other, simpler ttrpg systems - D&D is a popular but complex one and there's many great alternatives

2:40 so I thought this was about the way you move in the astral plane: your int score. the higher your score the higher your movement and so when you nut you gain a massive boost to speed
The "nut in the astral plane" question is a reference to the McElroy's podcast My Brother My Brother and Me
I had my first game as a DM after playing once for like 1:30h but with a group that never did that before and wanted to trie it. I used the ice giant quest in the witcher 3 as my story because I could not work with the books we had. But my partie loved it and now want to do it again.
My mum gave me the tip to start DM-ing with storys that I knew, like fairy tales or so.
When you nut in the astral plane, it’s actually the space between you and your seed being pushed apart at an exponential rate.

I know Brennan said he has it out for Gillear but I always imagine him as Brennan incarnate.
Of all the people that have personally told me "read the books first" or "You need to know ALL the rules" or "if I were you I would just stick to being a player for now" or even just sending me all these 2 hours long introductory videos... all I needed in reality to make me feel more confident about it was my favorite DM just literally saying in a five minute video "Just do it. You read enough - you played enough. Just start a game." /sobs/ thank you Brennan! /sobs/

As someone who has *desperately* been trying to kill an NPC I introduced on a whim in session 1 of my Mutants & Masterminds campaign, I feel Brennan's answer about Gilear connects with me on a spiritual level. We're now in year 3 and he's still kicking. Not for a lack of trying on my part. Steve from construction will continue to live in a world that is design to kill him. And one day I'm going to get him. One day the party will slip up. And then I am going to get him.
