Love your videos--one note. Celiac aside, many of us with gluten sensitivity find we have NO issues in Europe eating wheat based product! I indulged in pizza & pasta & it was DIVINE. Many theories as to why (GMOs is the most popular) But Italy is also full of Med diet items--meats, fruits & veggies, beans.
Great video. I shared on here on October 1 that my spouse and I celebrated our first anniversary of slow travel. It has been amazing. I also shared that we watched your videos for a year before embarking on our new lives and that your advice and experience were incredibly helpful. To those planning on slow travel, I say pay close attention to what was mentioned here. A plausible budget may mean not spending months in expensive London and Paris (what I wanted) but it did lead us to wonderful travels through more affordable Romania, Bulgaria and now in South America. I’m so glad this was the path we took. Also, believe Brian and Carrie when they say travel light. We thought we were traveling light when we started in Romania, but two months later we were carrying half of what we initially started with!
It is nice to hear you two are having a great experience, Jim! Thank you for the kind words. Keep us updated on your South America travels. We will be heading that way in January!! 😁
We had never been abroad. My stomach was in knots the days before we were leaving. We started with Italy. It was daunting when we first got there. 2 weeks in and we were the experts telling other travelers what to do. You really get the hang of it quick.
We just celebrated our first year too! Our pro tip would be #1 take a month long trip first and see how you like it, if you have not traveled much. #2 Learn to pivot, it never all goes according to plans. #3 If airbnb is your avenue, yes enjoy the month long stay discounts but always keep your reviews simple, "Nice location, responsive host", true reviews do not turn out well for you. A strange retaliation happens too often when you talk of anything negative. We are learning to use other platforms now. #4Language is intimidating, so the world language is courtesy and kindness. #5 Do it while you can, it doesn't get any easier!!
I really appreciate your channel! I am retiring in just over 18 months and plan to spend about 3 years slow traveling through Europe. Your experience, tips, and advice are very helpful, and insightful. Always great information! Thank you!
Oh and last tip would be reaseach flights to zone and once best flight price THEN do you itinerary. Saves lots of$$!! We have fun with pitting in where we are with no destination into google flights and it brings up great prices!
Thankyou Brian and Carrie! I’ve recently retired and travel is certainly on the agenda. I find that your naturally casual vlogs, filled with such awesome tips and advice based upon your experiences so valuable and encouraging. You certainly are making a difference to my planning and wanted you to know how appreciative I am. I’d love to be able to offer accommodation and local knowledge FOC if you end up in Australia - Snowy Mountains of NSW if ever you are here…. As a Thankyou !
Like you folks, we had no issue with street food in SE Asia. We always choose busy places so the food had a higher turnover. We are off to Goa India this year and I think we might pass on the street food in India. Great videos!
Been following you two for nearly a year now and will eventually have a beer with you somewhere, unfortunately not in Mexico this week. Always look forward to your updates, have fun and stay safe.
I watch some of your videos. Based on my experience, traveling is exhausting. I love my home, friends, family, and the things I do nearby. I travel 3 to 4 times a year. I find it way more enjoyable.
We are just wrapping up our month in Saranda Albania and we absolutely love it here. We have met so many people and have enjoyed sitting on our balcony overlooking the promenade. If anything, it’s very loud here at our apartment as we get the noise from all the bars and restaurants, the street traffic, and all the party boats in the marina as the noise seems to amplify off the water. We are headed to Bari Italy next week and then we are catching a cruise to Florida and then home to Washington state. Keep making great memories as well as videos!
We had the same experience recently in Mexico City. There was a night club nearby and the noise was almost too much for us. Make sure when you go to Bari you take some day trips down the coast to Polignano a Mare and Monopoli. Alberobello is also a must!! Safe travels!!
Great video as always. I thought the recent videos in Mexico where you gave your costs was super helpful. Having definitive dollar amounts makes a huge difference. Thanks 😊
Re bags. Last year I was on the main water bus in Venice and 2 young Americans got on with 2 massive AF suitcases. The water bus was super crowded and they annoyed everyone. While I always have a checked bag I was like WTF did you need all that stuff? My guess is they won’t do it again! BTW almost 70k. Impressive.
We see people all the time with massive bags and wonder what the heck could they possibly have in there!?! Yes, 70k, it has slowed down a bit, but we are grateful for everyone!! 😊
I have diligently watched the majority of your videos and made extensive notes. I have read through my notes and distilled all your advice to arrive at the single most important advice you have given, and I think that, armed only with this one piece of knowledge, I will be ready for anything that is thrown my way! Yes! And this one piece is, "two thirsty". I catch myself often looking to see what time it is, and repeating to myself that it's two thirsty, or it's almost two-thirsty, and very occasionally, Dang! I missed two-thirsty - time to catch up! (Okay, seriously, I think you are one of the best out there for giving practical, useful advice and appreciate you very much!)
Hi guys. Great info, thanks. Chris and Staci here. We were at the meetup in B’ham, it was great getting to chat, and hope to meet up out there sometime. This video was super timely for us. We are starting to plan details of our launch. Thanks and safe travels!
More quality suggestions. I admit it surprises me a little when you talk about Spain maybe not being the first choice for starting slow travel. As a uni-lingual Canadian, I understand the sentiment, yet you went there purposefully, well researched and really liked Alicante. I think you also chose Spain because it was close to Portugal which is where you thought you were going to purchase something. All this is very good advice looking back, but I think you have shown with planning, budgeting and flexibility that this is a long term, sustainable lifestyle. You continue to inspire and give me hope for future days of travel. Cheers to both
Good tips! I always try to sleep normal times even on the first night since it minimizes jet lag for me. The biggest challenge was East Coast U.S. to Australia. Speaking of sports, I watched the Super Bowl to about 4 am in Portugal this past January due to time zone difference. Nearly everyone else there in the area was sleep.
Thanks again for another great video! Do you have a sample budget spreadsheet you can share via email or from your website? Would love to know your categories and/ or $$ points for each of those budgeted categories. Thank you!
First, I want to say I love your rational, informed and detailed content, it's been super helpful! Budgets of course are vitally important. But, even though you're too young to collect Social Security, I'm assuming you also have some income, being the smart couple you are. I think all of your followers would appreciate understanding how you generate some income and what helps your cash flow, the most to the least. Thanks so much for all of your guidance and your experience, it's VERY encouraging!
Thank you so much ☺️. Yes, we do have some income that comes in from TH-cam and affiliate marketing that helps - thankfully as we are a ways from drawing on any retirement accounts. Thanks so much for watching. Cheers!!
Hi guys, you mentioned housesitting as a way to save. Would you be able to do a video devoting the video on housesitting only.... your experience, how you got started, do you only do in the U.S., how much do you make, etc.
Great Video & Great Tips. 1) How far ahead do you book your accommodations? 2) IF you apply the 4% Rule for withdrawal from your investments do you with draw quarterly or what frequency? 3) Can you share the best Air BNB or long term accommodations by City? Thx
1) We usually start booking accommodations 2 to 3 months ahead of time depending on the time of year. 2) We are not withdrawing from any of our investments currently. 3) We have learned not to share the specific link to our accommodations, especially with Airbnb, which we no longer use. Prices change, hosts change, etc...😁 Thank you for watching!!
Love your channel! Would love your thoughts on the “tourist tax” (inflated price for everyday items because you are an obvious foreigner) when you go into a market and don’t speak the language. ❤
Thank you! We thankfully rarely find this to be the case. We also try to look for places with prices clearly listed so there isn't concern of this. Thanks for watching 😊
Working US hours in a different time zone isn't always easy! I just quit my VP job and took a different gig so I would be able to actually relax when we travel.
Great information as always. I'm curious when you get back home, will you be doing any WA travels? We're very interested in Bellingham and Chuckanut scenic drive then onto Port Angeles for ONP exploration but I'm struggling finding a video on how to do that. Thanks for all the tips!! ☺️

After a full year+ of travel, I have downsized my luggage quite a bit. I still can't get to carry-on only like you brave intrepid travelers, but I did lose my wheeled carry-on, so now my computer bag is my carry-on and my cross-body bag is my personal item. Also, I downsized my one piece of checked luggage so that it's almost impossible to pack it with enough to go over my weight limit. FFS, the amount of money I spent on being over my weight limit this last year could buy me a ticket home.

Love your content, keeps up the good work. The main issue with insurance and scooters / motorcycles in Asia (Thailand comes to mind) is that the policy will specify you must be wearing a helmet, if you are driving you must be properly licensed, etc. Folks jump on these things whether operating or riding on the back without a helmet then the insurance balks at covering injuries.
Great video! So much good information! I experienced the Spanish Dialect issue in Guatemala as we were in the mountains and the dialect was more Incan than Spanish!
Thanks for the great information! We are in the midst of figuring out health care for both WA state and travel. It's overwhelming! Sorry I missed you in B'ham! I appreciate your content!
You can never have too many Brian and Carrie videos. I could listen and watch all day. And sometimes do. Just wish there were videos that could replicate the taste and smell of the foods. I feel a beer or Margarita coming on. Keep the videos coming and don't listen to the person saying there are too many.❤

Thank you! We will do another meet up next year and planning to do others while on the road. It would be great to meet up someday. Safe travels! 😊

Great question. Ours are both unlocked without a carrier. I (Brian) had to upgrade to a new phone with e-sim capabilities.
I would love to hear your take on pesticides.

@@BrianandCarrie Oops, Well that message got screwed up, sorry 😆
Too many videos guys. I can’t keep up
HA!! Well, thank you for trying!!! 😁❤️
@@BrianandCarrie you're so positive ❤️, no such thing as too many travel videos!! 👏 👏
They feel very similar content
You can never have too many Brian and Carrie videos. I could listen and watch all day. And sometimes do. Just wish there were videos that could replicate the taste and smell of the foods. I feel a beer or Margarita coming on.
Keep the videos coming and don't listen to the person saying there are too many.❤
Thank you, Lynda!! 😁🍻❤️
