For those coming here with VSeeFace 1.13.36L or higher: iFacialMocap2VMC is no longer necessary, as VSeeFace now supports direct connection to iFacialMocap. It is actually a better experience connecting directly, as iFacialMocap2VMC (at least the version I was using earlier) does not support head rotation, and I had to use VSeeFace's native tracking for that, thus negating the CPU offloading that phone-based tracking provides.

Hiya Argama, love this tutorial! I wasn't able to see my mods initially. I figured out mine was set to "Minimize in Inspector" thus the BlendShape preview window wasn't there. If anyone else has this issue, navigate to the bottom of the inspector, and click the vertical dots icon to change the view. From here you can choose: "Convert to Floating Window" or "Restore in Inspector" ^_^

Aside the fact it’s terrible (personal preference), the more software/steps you add in making CG content, the longer things take and the easier it is for files issues to occur. I wanted to mention that using newer version of the hana tool and the vrm importer still work, it just looks a little different. For example, the HanaTool didn't show a bunch of Vroid options when reading but just a male and female, no mention of Vroid. And the VRM tool doesn't have the humanoid export option. etc. The process is still the same though. I wish Vroid would have those options as default though.
Oooh, this is really neat - even as someone who lacks an iphone or a setup that allows good VSF advanced detection (the unholy trinity of 'weird lighting angle', 'weird camera angle' and 'resting you-know-what' face), Hanatool looks good even for just adding more variety to hotkey blendshapes. Heyo~ You briefly mentioned at the start that there is a free way to accomplish this involving blender, but you just are not familliar with Blender so have chosen another route. Did you see any tutorials for the Blender route that you can roll my way? So its basically just making all the 52 blendshapes by hand in blender (Or if you want to spent 70bucks there is faceit plugin) I also hate apple but honestly I'm having a lot of fun with this

WAIT OK if you're still having this problem I think I fixed it (at least when I was getting it!) When you click ClipBuilder instead of dragging and dropping the avatar, select the small double circle symbol (bullseye?) directly next to where it says "None (Game Object) " It will open up a finder, and select your avatar from there! I hope this helps, I don't know enough about unity to explain what happened lol
Go to the projects area on the bottom left -> all prefabs -> drag your model from there up to the hierarchy (things should be blue now). Follow the video and drag the blue stuff (face, full model) accordingly. May or may not work since I'm in the middle of stuff but it got the clip thing to work and removed my error.

When i import hanatool i get this error 'The type or namespace name 'BlendShapeAvatar' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)' the univrm tool imported perfectly fine so not sure why this isnt working :(

i sadly cannot get this to work, upon entering the clip builder phase it doesn't create the menu shown in the tutorial. it shows a basic slider on blendshapes and they cannot be affected even when messed with, but outside of the blendshapes the model can have the expressions tinkered with.
Hello! Make sure you're selecting the asset "BlendShape" and not one of the actual blendshapes (ie. BlendShape.Angry); it is the 3rd asset under Blendshapes by default; clicking this will pop up the menu. (I had the same problem til I realized I wasn't clicking the right thing! Hope this helps!) :)
@@Eggumin yes! I finally realized that!! My current issue is one eye has decided to be wonky and not work right and all emotions force it to clip if the eye is touched in the tool.

This is super cool! Is there any way that folks know of to get the good ar tracking without an iphone? I honestly have no interest in getting one (don't have the money, and this would be my only reason to even get an iphone) I got the blendshapes set up and tested that they worked in 3tene, but want to get a way to have them tracked automatically.
I tried doing this with the new non-beta vroid and the vrm does not work when you want to read blenshapes, so you might need to keep using the beta version of Vroid.
For some reason when I have the blendshape window up there is no model preview? The window is there it's just empty. Everything looks the way it should except there's nothing in the preview window
oh my god I just figured it out. It's trying to apply the blendshapes to my hat!!!! If you are having the same problem as me check any accessories that you have attached to your face. Still don't know how to fix this but at least I know where they went lol
I got all the extra blendshapes, but I have none of the additional sliders you do (like the cheek puff one you use in the video) so I cant actually adjust any of the blendshapes. Also, for some reason, everything works fine in my face tracker except when I smile at all my mouth turns into a U shape and my eyebrows go down really far (kinda makes me look evil, which isn't great) and I have no idea why.
@@ArgamaWitch Even under the main Blendshape one, my last slider is called "Fcl_HA_Short_Low" and I have none of the ones you do to adjust things like you do here, like the "cheekPuff" you use for demo or any of the sliders around it
@@ArgamaWitch I redownloaded the model from vroid and did the same things again, and this time it worked! Not sure what went wrong the first time, but I was able to adjust the sliders properly with a redownload :) Thanks!
For some reason I'm next getting as many blendshapes as in the video. I purchased the Hana tool and imported the one she uses but I only have 19 blendshapes ;-;
Help! i did all the steps, the avatar is there but when i click it it goes to the default avatar with the blue hair. I made my avatar on the latest version of vroid and i'm trying to import it into .12.0 to export.
Vroid v1 (stable) isn't compatible with Hana tool nor can you put it into any of the beta. That being said they are working on an update to work with the stable Vroid V1, just give them a few weeks, it's very time consuming and it's just one person
Help! I was able to sort out how to export the vrm but when I go into VSeeFace, none of the expressions are registering and when I smile it's doing an expression I didn't even ceate (like the sides of the lips are coming up CRAZY high and it looks really wonky). I'm going directly from the apple program to the VSeeFace app, so I don't know what's going on. Any thoughts?

As an animator, its annoying that all the demos of facial motion capture are with characters that have 6 pixel wide mouth. Its better to set up some character like Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz so really show whats possible
ah this was the tutorial i needed, this helped me get my blendshapes all working and vseeface picking up my expressions. i have a question though since ifacialmocap works for face expressions only and not head movement, is there an easy way to connect both a webcam for movement and my iphone with ifmo so i can use them at the same time? i see mention you have both, but i cant seem to figure out how to add the webcam too ;-;

If you launch vtube studio or vseeface it shows dots on the face for tracking, you can use that to see how it's seeing your face. You can also adjust blendshapes in unity, like default to add a smile so when you smile it's more prominent
@@ArgamaWitch in the dot detection it all works :( but the model doesnt show any emotion. brows and eyes work. I will see if its better with blendshapes.
youtube keeps deleting my comments immediately after posting them which is really annoying cause I'm still super stuck 😭 I started a new project and redid everything (including downloading UniVRM-0.56.3 instead of 0.66) and it worked! But now I'm stuck at exporting humanoid, it keeps saying "Error: The Root transform should have Default translation, rotation and scale. You probably need to add a Animator to the game object "Root". Or your script needs to check if the component is attached before using it." I can't really find anything about it online either 😭 is there a way I can fix this?
HANA_Tool isn't showing up on my menu bar :( only UniGLTF and VRM0. Even though I've downloaded all of the same versions as in the tutorial, it's been different (such as your menu bar showing HANA_Tool and VRM, but mine shows UniGLTF and VRM0) but I figured out how to import my model through VRM0. Buuuut I can't do anything with HANA_Tool, it's just a folder in my Assets drop-down under the Project list (along with my model and the blendshapes/materials/meshes etc). Does anyone know how to fix this? I've been trying to set this up for 2 days now and I'm so frustrated 😭
there is two hana tool unity packages, you need to make sure you get the Hana_Tool_VX_X_X_VRM_En.unitypackage and not the other one. It needs to say VRM in the package name
This will be a very dumb question. But how do people see the face preview in inspector? At the bottom right side. Been trying to figure this out for days :c
So far this has worked for me, except in the bottom right preview screen my model's face is above the head and i can't see the expressions because it's glitched through the hair. where did i go wrong aaaaaaa

But I noticed some mouth movements add like a black clipping texture, and one has to minimize the jaw movement and toy around with the adjusting each bar, but that loses a lot of the cool expressive things, like moving the mouth from side to side. but would there be another fix for this? or would this be more of a blender solution kind-off thing
Actually, sorry for the double post, I have played around and it seems to be the outline, so erasing the outlike all together for the face eliminates that black clipping issue i had! Posting this just in case someone is having the same issue!
@Argama Witch I'm having an issue. When i export my model from vroid I make sure to not click the delete transparent option. But once I bring it into blender, my model has 3 layers of skin. Or if I bring it straight to unity the shirt covers the whole body. Am I doing something wrong?

The connection between the two arent seen. You can now do it without the 3rd part program. And use the protocol directly from vseeface general settings
I installed the older version of Vroid but my model will not show up. I put the .vroid file into the older ver. & the model icon shows up, but when I click on it to export it shows the basic vroid model.. Is there a way to fix that?
you can NOT open a new vroid in the older beta vroid because they use different meshes. That being said, the hana tool as updated and you can get the update for the blendshapes
Can anyone help? I have searched and searched for an answer and I still cannot find one. Every time i try to export my vrm model with the vrm asset, It says "Require animator.avatar" Which is preventing me from exporting it. I have tried restarting, downloading different vrm versions and unity versions. I Would appreciate it if someone had an answer for this.
My model seems to be bugging out real bad. When I do cheek puff it just makes everything ragedy and jagged, as well as blinking completely bringin the whole mesh down and tearing into it. Wide eyeing on the right eye seems to but out as well as the eyeline moved but the sclera doesnt move along with it. Tried with multiple models and it just seems to keep bugging out :(
in vseeface go to settings > general settings > scroll down to your VMC protocol (where you put your LAN IP in), make sure Apply VSseeFace tracking is selected and check everybox EXCEPT Blendshapes/Eyebones/Jawbone (this means those unchecked will be tracked by the iphone)

Make sure you have the right version of vroid studio selected! I clicked the wrong one and go the same error message

Solved it! for anyone that needs it, i had to choose an older version of vroid when selecting for read blendshapes.
Hey there, the HANA_tool isn't working for me. Any time I try to use the clip builder, I get the following error: ArgumentException: Calling apply or revert methods on an object which is not part of a Prefab instance is not supported.

Make sure you are using Unity 2019.4 (.28f1) I used the "Long Term Support" version under Latest Official Releases in the Unity Hub.

For some reason, I don't have the "clip builder" option. Does anyone know why that might be missing? I don't have any errors or anything - it's just not showing up under the HANA menu. :')

When i import hanatool i get this error 'The type or namespace name 'BlendShapeAvatar' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)' the univrm tool imported perfectly fine so not sure why this isnt working :(

I use both a camera and iphone. I phone does face, and camera does body/eyes/head

i sadly cannot get this to work, upon entering the clip builder phase it doesn't create the menu shown in the tutorial. it shows a basic slider on blendshapes and they cannot be affected even when messed with, but outside of the blendshapes the model can have the expressions tinkered with.

Hello! Make sure you're selecting the asset "BlendShape" and not one of the actual blendshapes (ie. BlendShape.Angry); it is the 3rd asset under Blendshapes by default; clicking this will pop up the menu. (I had the same problem til I realized I wasn't clicking the right thing! Hope this helps!) :)
@@Eggumin yes! I finally realized that!! My current issue is one eye has decided to be wonky and not work right and all emotions force it to clip if the eye is touched in the tool.

hey one Question while in Clip builder when I drag the model it says "GameObject has no VRMInstance" can you tell me how to fix this.
This is super cool! Is there any way that folks know of to get the good ar tracking without an iphone? I honestly have no interest in getting one (don't have the money, and this would be my only reason to even get an iphone) I got the blendshapes set up and tested that they worked in 3tene, but want to get a way to have them tracked automatically.
No real way yet, but programs are trying. The iphone camera is pretty special, but there are no real cameras like that on the market.
You should start using the RealToon Shader in unity vs. the default.
I'll look into it but I usually turn most of the shadows off
I tried doing this with the new non-beta vroid and the vrm does not work when you want to read blenshapes, so you might need to keep using the beta version of Vroid.

For some reason when I have the blendshape window up there is no model preview? The window is there it's just empty. Everything looks the way it should except there's nothing in the preview window
oh my god I just figured it out. It's trying to apply the blendshapes to my hat!!!! If you are having the same problem as me check any accessories that you have attached to your face. Still don't know how to fix this but at least I know where they went lol

I got all the extra blendshapes, but I have none of the additional sliders you do (like the cheek puff one you use in the video) so I cant actually adjust any of the blendshapes. Also, for some reason, everything works fine in my face tracker except when I smile at all my mouth turns into a U shape and my eyebrows go down really far (kinda makes me look evil, which isn't great) and I have no idea why.
make sure you are in the Blendshape one. If you click on A you will only see the A mouth.
@@ArgamaWitch Even under the main Blendshape one, my last slider is called "Fcl_HA_Short_Low" and I have none of the ones you do to adjust things like you do here, like the "cheekPuff" you use for demo or any of the sliders around it
@@agenteggs it sounds like it read it but didn't build the clips[blendshapes] because that is one of the vroid blendshapes, not the 52 blendshapes
@@ArgamaWitch I redownloaded the model from vroid and did the same things again, and this time it worked! Not sure what went wrong the first time, but I was able to adjust the sliders properly with a redownload :) Thanks!

For some reason I'm next getting as many blendshapes as in the video. I purchased the Hana tool and imported the one she uses but I only have 19 blendshapes ;-;
Help! i did all the steps, the avatar is there but when i click it it goes to the default avatar with the blue hair. I made my avatar on the latest version of vroid and i'm trying to import it into .12.0 to export.
Vroid v1 (stable) isn't compatible with Hana tool nor can you put it into any of the beta. That being said they are working on an update to work with the stable Vroid V1, just give them a few weeks, it's very time consuming and it's just one person

I was able to sort out how to export the vrm but when I go into VSeeFace, none of the expressions are registering and when I smile it's doing an expression I didn't even ceate (like the sides of the lips are coming up CRAZY high and it looks really wonky). I'm going directly from the apple program to the VSeeFace app, so I don't know what's going on. Any thoughts?
are you tracking with the iphone? because this requires the iphone to track it wont work with solely vseeface

That is really odd. I did "updated" tutorial that shows you what versions I'm using, it may be a compatibility issue

I have one question - I'm using ifacialmocap and all the tracking seems fine, but eyebrows are both synced with each other and isn't as expressive as I thought it would be. Is there a way to fix the tracking for this? Thank you!
I'm not sure. I cant independently move my eyebrows so I cant test it
hi i know this video is old and all but i followed the steps and the univrm will not export. the export option is greyed out and i dont know why.
make sure your model is selected in the hierarchy when you export it
As an animator, its annoying that all the demos of facial motion capture are with characters that have 6 pixel wide mouth. Its better to set up some character like Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz so really show whats possible
Vroid will break the mesh if its much larger, unfortunately.
ah this was the tutorial i needed, this helped me get my blendshapes all working and vseeface picking up my expressions. i have a question though since ifacialmocap works for face expressions only and not head movement, is there an easy way to connect both a webcam for movement and my iphone with ifmo so i can use them at the same time? i see mention you have both, but i cant seem to figure out how to add the webcam too ;-;
You use the webcam with Vseeface to track head and body, and iphone for expressions

No matter what I do, my webcam doesnt detect smiles at all. No matter the programm, just doesnt work
If you launch vtube studio or vseeface it shows dots on the face for tracking, you can use that to see how it's seeing your face. You can also adjust blendshapes in unity, like default to add a smile so when you smile it's more prominent
@@ArgamaWitch in the dot detection it all works :( but the model doesnt show any emotion. brows and eyes work. I will see if its better with blendshapes.
youtube keeps deleting my comments immediately after posting them which is really annoying cause I'm still super stuck 😭 I started a new project and redid everything (including downloading UniVRM-0.56.3 instead of 0.66) and it worked! But now I'm stuck at exporting humanoid, it keeps saying "Error: The Root transform should have Default translation, rotation and scale. You probably need to add a Animator to the game object "Root". Or your script needs to check if the component is attached before using it." I can't really find anything about it online either 😭 is there a way I can fix this?
Have you checked my unity errors tutorial? If not. It may work if you update your univrm and unity

when i launch unitry 2019 theres no section at the top that says VRM? How do i fix this?

HANA_Tool isn't showing up on my menu bar :( only UniGLTF and VRM0. Even though I've downloaded all of the same versions as in the tutorial, it's been different (such as your menu bar showing HANA_Tool and VRM, but mine shows UniGLTF and VRM0) but I figured out how to import my model through VRM0. Buuuut I can't do anything with HANA_Tool, it's just a folder in my Assets drop-down under the Project list (along with my model and the blendshapes/materials/meshes etc). Does anyone know how to fix this? I've been trying to set this up for 2 days now and I'm so frustrated 😭
there is two hana tool unity packages, you need to make sure you get the Hana_Tool_VX_X_X_VRM_En.unitypackage and not the other one. It needs to say VRM in the package name
This will be a very dumb question. But how do people see the face preview in inspector? At the bottom right side. Been trying to figure this out for days :c

not really. Iphone has a true depth IR camera that basically projects tiny dots on your face to track your expressions, we dont have a PC version yet
So far this has worked for me, except in the bottom right preview screen my model's face is above the head and i can't see the expressions because it's glitched through the hair. where did i go wrong aaaaaaa
I am not sure, I've never experienced such a glitch
soooo ive done all of it the blendshapes are here but they are all the normal basic face expression

Maybe you can help argama? But I noticed some mouth movements add like a black clipping texture, and one has to minimize the jaw movement and toy around with the adjusting each bar, but that loses a lot of the cool expressive things, like moving the mouth from side to side. but would there be another fix for this? or would this be more of a blender solution kind-off thing
its a blender solution. It means the mesh is being pulled far behind what it wants to and is being broken.

Actually, sorry for the double post, I have played around and it seems to be the outline, so erasing the outlike all together for the face eliminates that black clipping issue i had! Posting this just in case someone is having the same issue!
@@mobu99 that doesnt fix the clipping but hides it. There is still a hole there but you just can't see it without the outline.
@Argama Witch I'm having an issue. When i export my model from vroid I make sure to not click the delete transparent option. But once I bring it into blender, my model has 3 layers of skin. Or if I bring it straight to unity the shirt covers the whole body. Am I doing something wrong?
you would have to add the blendshapes in unity before bringing it into blender. Blender messes with things

The connection between the two arent seen. You can now do it without the 3rd part program. And use the protocol directly from vseeface general settings

I installed the older version of Vroid but my model will not show up. I put the .vroid file into the older ver. & the model icon shows up, but when I click on it to export it shows the basic vroid model.. Is there a way to fix that?
you can NOT open a new vroid in the older beta vroid because they use different meshes. That being said, the hana tool as updated and you can get the update for the blendshapes

Can anyone help? I have searched and searched for an answer and I still cannot find one. Every time i try to export my vrm model with the vrm asset, It says "Require animator.avatar" Which is preventing me from exporting it. I have tried restarting, downloading different vrm versions and unity versions. I Would appreciate it if someone had an answer for this.

My model seems to be bugging out real bad. When I do cheek puff it just makes everything ragedy and jagged, as well as blinking completely bringin the whole mesh down and tearing into it. Wide eyeing on the right eye seems to but out as well as the eyeline moved but the sclera doesnt move along with it. Tried with multiple models and it just seems to keep bugging out :(

in vseeface go to settings > general settings > scroll down to your VMC protocol (where you put your LAN IP in), make sure Apply VSseeFace tracking is selected and check everybox EXCEPT Blendshapes/Eyebones/Jawbone (this means those unchecked will be tracked by the iphone)
