  • This Ridge Ryder review is for the Portable 12 volt TravelKool 22 Litre Cooler Warmer Thermo Cooler mini fridge was given to me for review from SuperCheap Auto
I tested the Ridge Ryder TravelKool, over a few days, and I used a thermometer to see just how well the TravelKool 22 Litre Cooler Warmer works.
My results were based on a cooling period of around 3.5 hours, in which the Ridge Ryder fridge cooler dropped the internal temperature by 20 degrees to a 5 degrees internal temperature, which by the way, is 3 degrees cooler than my house fridge.☃️
👍 You can easily use this as a short term camping fridge.
P.S. It also managed to drop the internal temperature by 14 degrees in half an hour.
The heating succeeded creating an internal temperature of approx 55-60 degrees, so the Ridge Ryder TravelKool 22, will definitely keep your food warm for an extended period of time.
P.S. This was achieved in around the half hour mark.
👍 Overall I think its a very good product for its price.

That will be great for when you go away Garry!. I won a similar one a few years ago and I would go down to -9°c and 20°c above ambient temperature and was lockable.

      Thanks Ben
I'm very impressed with the Ridge Ryder 22L Cooler / Warmer myself.
As you have already stated, they are an amazing product, the ambient temperature was around 24-26 Celcius when i did these tests over a few days, and mine heated the interior to 55-60 Celcius easily, and made 5 Celsius as a cooler.
These devices have come a long way, and are not only getting better, but more affordable as well.🙂

Nice looking unit. Thinking for bread proofing too. Cheaper than a yoghurt maker if the temperature holds, so far not seen if you can choose a temperature and hold it. What I needed to see was what the dialing was doing.

What temperature do you need for bread making?
Please respond, and I'll see if I can get the TravelKool close to it, and let you know, in a day or two.

Garry Purcell Garry, round 23 to 26 for warm bulk proofing, for overnight, say 8 degrees, for sauerkraut, 22 C, and yoghurt 39 C. The bread proofing round 23 to 26 is the important one really. Because days can be too hot or too cold. The overnight dough goes into fridges. As you have one, of these, , easy to make sauerkraut. ...and it needs that temperature control. 21,22, perfect, 23 at a pinch but no hotter. Gary I have wanted a car fridge forever, ex husband ridiculed me, rotten son agreed. Glad you have one. Thanks.

Could you put the bigger bottles in the middle where the window is it looks like a bit of indent there

You could, but it really won't make a lot of difference.

Is there a workaround to adjust the low voltage cut off level?

Hi, Gary. I'm here for 3d print´s. is this the future for your channel with gadgets reviews?

    • @GarryPurcell
      @GarryPurcell  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

If you check out my full channel you will see I have quite a few different dedicated sections.
My interests varies from time to time, and I post accordingly.
My 3D Printer section currently has around 50 videos, so I'm sure you will find a few you haven't seen.
P.S. I have a Logitech C270 review coming shortly. This will be used with a Raspbery Pi and Octoprint WiFi setup for my 3D printers.(separate video showing how to setup camera and octoprint and use it wirelessly)
I also have a few more videos for the Tevo Tarantula and Creality to make.
I will be also doing some 3D modelling tutorials using different software further down the track.🙂
But for now, I have a few Gadget videos to make over the next week or so.
P.S. I'm also building a 3D Printer and RC Quadcopter website that is taking a lot of my time. (It's not ready for traffic yet)🙂

How many amps does it use on 12v?

      I'm not sure.
I'll have a look later, and see if I can dig up the info from the product manual.

Your household fridge is 8c ???? Doesn't your milk and meat go off

No problems with my main fridge.
We have a household of nine people at the moment, so our Samsung fridge gets a hammering.

Your test with the cooling indicates it cools 20 below ambient temp, not as claimed by the manufacturer -25. Ambient temp during test was 25, gauge showed 5 when taken out after 3 hours. Fail.

    • @GarryPurcell
      @GarryPurcell  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Your not correct in your statement above.
The ambient temperature was around 24 degrees when I started (Jumpt to 9:05) the Test, and approx 27 degrees when the test was finished (Jump to 10:56), so not so bad. (the fridge achieved around 23 degrees below ambiant based on that)
So Its mighty close to specks.😉

@@GarryPurcell 27 - 5 = 22, not 23. At 30+ the performance would probably be worse. At 35 ambient, this thing would be next to useless. Given it was cooling nothing bit air this is poor performance and your review and comment above are seeming more like a thank you for the free sample rather than a critical evaluation of the product. Mind you, I could see a role for it in the car which had air conditioning to help it along.
      Cheers.

Basicly as you say, its a method of keeping your food and drinks cold for a day or two.
I use it to transport cold food from the supermarket, to my home. (Iv'e just gone through a week of very high temperatures, and I think the milk would have been curdled by the time I got home, if I didn't have this unit.)
P.S. If you want a refrigeration unit for a prolonged camping stay, then this is not for you.

Just a comment from personal experience - I have owned this product for roughly 1 yr now and the input sockets are broken and unusable.
Much of this product is made of plastic, including the input sockets. The materials used to make this are cheap and do not last.
If I could go back in time I would personally not buy this. I would much prefer to spend a bit extra and get a quality product that will actually last.

      That's sad to hear.
I had one of the plugs damaged by kids kicking a football at the fridge, and they hit the connected plug while it was on charge. I simply glued it back, and still working fine.
