I was a Yooper. We lived it. I'm reclaiming our property outside Iron Mountain. Most everything came from the land outside of my Dad spoiling us with a trip to get pasties, or go to the old steakhouse back in the 80's. So many trips on the sleds! My Dad taught us how to gather and my Mom how to preserve. Once my kid figures out life, I'll rebuild it.
@@BurlyExplores I am retired so I didn’t have to worry about a job. I love only 4 to 6 vehicles a day going by. I wish my daughter and granddaughters would come up. 1 granddaughter just graduated college and the other high school, so they were going to be too busy to hang out with grandma anyway. No reason for me to hang out in the city where it’s too hot in the summer
That moisture is condensation from the propane heater. Exchange that heater for a vented propane heater and that will solve your problem. Do not add any more insulation until you do that.
A little work and you have a great camp. That person who mentioned the plywood to keep the bears out had a good point even if that was not the intention. Make sure it is sealed up and racoon proof too, they can do a lot of damage.
What a beautiful cabin! My husband and I eventually one day want to move to the UP, we just don't want to leave family. Definitely subscribing to follow with your journey!
I'm seriously considering moving up there . Are you going yeard 'round or a hunting cabin? Some older Yooper posts are starting to trickle in. I hunt, forage, XC ski, flyfish etc. Dude! I think you did real good. I absolutely LOVE the cleared-ness of the property. Yeah, drop those couple trees. What is the square footage ? Can the well be fixed? Did you figure out that moisture spot? Too many Q's? I'm big on vinegar , kills everything. Bleach a second choice. Yes, the quiet. Surreal. Except for Bigfoot hollering, He would make a good caretaker though. So be nice to him. The only cringe I think of, is the blue floor. WTF. How about a cement floor, or would that crack? Or just paint it flat black, my solution for everything . Maybe drizzle some brown in with it.
All the moisture problems actually where a result of that heater. The moisture finds the cold spots just like your window collects moisture. Happend to my cabin and a camper. The faster you get a wood stove the better you will be. Good luck.
Cool place! I am currently in the South East part of Michigan, but it gets too hot for me, haha people think I'm crazy, but I've got to go up a little higher, I love being cold. My brother built a cabin when he was maybe 16 years old and he's gone so I am trying to fix it up and get some experience before moving totally off grid.

Isolated moisture spots on inside walls are normally an insulation issue. A lack of or a breeze getting through. The ventless heater is definitely an issue for moisture to. And from your video I can't see any ventilation in your attic to the outside. Or any form of soffit or roof vent
There are vents in the second story but not the first. I always have a window open when running that thing. I have a wood stove I just need to install it.
I would be concerned about possible mold under the paneling it’s not safe to breathe it too much Nice woods if you want deer You could use your upper deck to look for them congratulations summer is coming enjoy your new cabin
definitely cut those two hemlocks you pointerd out, they're no helping the house. You seem to have a lot of moisture in places and that has to be addressed sooner than later moisture will damage a lot. I'd love to know what everyone suggests, this is fun!
I honestly forgot that I subscribed to this channel when you talked about it in class my Freshman year. PS: this is Victor Fonseca. And I hope your day is doing well
There is a good chance all your moisture problems are due to that ventless heater. No matter the brand they make a ton of moisture.
That's very possible and something I really didn't consider. I will be adding a wood stove eventually.
Yep, that’s absolutely an issue. Propane creates moisture; no ventilation is a big problem.

Those pasties chafe my nipples😂
Loved your video. I moved up here to my sisters (Camp Silkie) about 5 years ago and I love it.
Awesome, how was the transition full time to the UP?

Lol on month 5.5 of winter painting the floor blue probably sounds like a decent idea.
Purchased that way, and have no clue why they did. It's s ashame to cover natural wood IMO

Thanks, we are planning on a wood stove for the main heat and using that upstairs as a backup if needed.

Good stuff, sorry took me so long to get back. Definitely cooler up there most summers/springs.
Congratulations Josh and Sarah, place looks awesome. Can't wait for the invite for your "Uncle Gary" to visit! Lol.
Thanks, maybe once we get everything nice and cozy and ready for guests.

Nice! Wish I could have been there for the first trip, but there will be many more!!! Love you!
Love you to babe!
The propane heater needs to be vented to help with the humidity inside.
We figured that out eventually, thanks for the suggestion. This spring we will install a wood stove.

Thanks, it's good I've checked. From the non vented propane heater
Looking good and now you can make it your get-away. What part of the U P are you in? I have a place in Northern Wisconsin. Keep living the dream.
Northeastern Side. Thanks we are looking forward to sprucing it up a bit this spring/summer. Have a bunch of plans in the works. Thanks for watching!

What!! I want to go!!
We may be able to work on that in the future once it gets where we want it. It really is one of our dreams come true.

That 4 X 8 sheets of plywood. I bet it's to keep bears off the , outta the cabin❗❗
It's for the snow. Makes sure the snow doesn't cave in on the screened in porch.

Nope, propane heater is ventless and it's moisture from that. Only shows up when the heater is on.
I'm not watching this dam video of a house built in the beginning of 20 century give me a break
How much did it run ya?
Around $30k for 10 acres and the cabin.
@@BurlyExplores what a sweet deal! God bless!
