Gantry crane can be your friend aka back saver. Maybe helpful suggestion on your vertical bolts, install the bolts down and nuts on the bottom. My logic is if the bolts get loose gravity should at least let the bolt act as a pin instead of complete separation with the bolt on the ground with the parts. Or if you're real safety minded you could tack the overhead bolts or drill the ends and add a cotter pin in case of the nuts backing off from the twist and flex from the crane.

Yep, tipping the gantry up is definitely sketchy. I had a couple pieces of 1/2" plywood the each ends of the horizontal beams so they wouldn't gouge the slab while raising it. After watching the gantry being raised by someone else, it looks like there might be a way to control the sketchy lurch by securing the top to something stout so it could be let off slowly. But, alls well that end well, I always say. Good job.

That gantry crane would definitely be useful, and the powered hoist is 100% a better option than the chain one that takes forever to raise and lower LOL. I need to get one of those cranes, I just don't have a space for it right now, hopefully by this summer/fall timeframe after I get other projects done so I have space, I can get one. Yeah, tipping the crane assembly up with the tractor was sketchy, I would have left the wheels off until it was tipped up and then with the tractor still holing it up then attached the wheels...also, it would have worked better I think if you started with the horizontal rail of the crane up against the pallet fork frame so it couldn't slide as you were raising it. Other than that, another awesome excuse to use the tractor HAHA!!

@@MJADoingStuff I have the Kubota BX2680, lift height is typically the issue with it as well as being able to get close enough to the side of a trailer to dump, which is why I'm looking into getting a deck over dump trailer....there's one out there now that is not only a deck over dump trailer but the sides fold down to turn it into a flatbed...the downside is its about $24,000 and they only have an 8x14 or 8x16....I guess the 8x16 would work ok, as I rarely have to haul all my implements at the same time LOL....mainly the tractor and mid mount mower, or the tractor, loader, and a 3 point implement so I guess the 16' length would work, and if i needed to haul 20 foot sections of pipe I could still do that with a flag on the back. @@MJADoingStuff Everything is ridiculously expensive, and compound that with only 1 company offering that trailer type and they just put whatever price they want on it. Hopefully some local companies jump in on that style and start building them as well and help get the prices down to earth, even a regular dump trailer is ridiculously priced. Right now I don't have a trailer at all so hauling my tractor or lawn tractor is a struggle of finding a trailer and going to get it because nobody in town rents trailers, so its a 30+ mile one way drive to go get a trailer. @ that’s understandable. It’s also an easy mistake to make if you’re not a professional fabricator. It’s kind of like when you buy new steel from a steel yard and or lumber from a lumber yard.

Good job.

I assume your pallet forks have a receiver hitch. If so, I would also look into building a boom pole for it as well. Mine is just 2 inch square tube. I put a 45 at the base, and use 2 heavy ratchet straps from the top of the pole to the upper corners of my pallet fork frame.

Good evening Mitch!
Hey Gary😁👍🚜💨☀️
@@wildbill23c Yep got to justify the tractor any chance I get😂👍I wish it lifted higher I had to use the tips of the pallet forks to get it high enough 🫣 that was on the first try and it was nerve wracking. Thanks for watching and Happy New Year 😁👍🚜💨☀️
@@MJADoingStuff Some fork frames let you mount the forks upside down. Might be useful to try in the future.
I've got a friend with an 18' tilt deck trailer too if needed LOL.
@ That trailer sounds like the cat’s meow. I think 🤔 the price is a little high but I am a cheap SOB.😂 It nice to have options with the friends trailer. Have a great weekend 😁👍
Have a great weekend as well, and a great New Year.
i was wondering if an added 3 or 4ft on one end would be nice to lift lighter stuff off to the side as long as you didnt over balance it anyways?? great mods
@@frrapp2366 That would be a cool idea 💡 but like you said you have to be mindful of tipping. You could pick up something heavy on the outside to make up for what you are going to pick up. Another fun video. I must’ve missed it if you said it was at a 1 ton or a 2 ton lift? I hope you had a good coupon for it and I hope it holds up well. You’re easy-going manner in your sense of wit make your videos quite enjoyable.

@@TheCritterWindow I too had a coupon but it took a year before I had time to put it together😂 I made it wider but it still has part of the original i beam over part of the posts. @ Nice, I will have to try that
Aside from being a bit too narrow a big issue these gantry cranes have for basic home owner DIY guy is they are too tall to go under a normal 8 foot residential overhead door. I shortened mine before putting it together. You have to trim a bit off both upright pairs.
@@mabmachine I agree if they were to make a low profile or 3 section post system it might sell more. I am fortunate to finally have a shop big enough. Thanks for watching and Happy New Year 😁👍🚜💨☀️

I’d guess that the ends of the original I Beam were not cut off straight. Whoever made that for Harbor Freight didn’t care if they’re cut off straight because it didn’t matter for the product.
I should have paid more attention too 🤔 maybe I could have noticed and compensated for the difference. But sometimes I rush to make the end of the week video deadline. Friday always seems to be the best day for a new video. Thanks for watching and Happy New Year 😁👍🚜💨☀️
@ that’s understandable. It’s also an easy mistake to make if you’re not a professional fabricator. It’s kind of like when you buy new steel from a steel yard and or lumber from a lumber yard. The ends are almost never cut perfectly square.
I’ve been considering buying the same Grantry. This gives me that idea that I’ll probably just buy a longer I beam and replace the whole top with a longer one. Or I may just fabricate the whole thing. Decisions decision…. Good video though.
Putting bolts in upside down ensures that the bolt will fall out if the nut comes loose.
