For ship PVP rewards feels like ship PVP should be the earning mechanism. FPS for FPS, Mining for mining, etc... Locking the ship parts behind FPS is a bit janky. Fair it's a first iteration of this for them, so all good. They need to put some more thought into this though.
I think that wouldn't work that well, actually. If people do these over and over and get better gear because they completed it early on, it could potentially cause a form of gatekeeping by players that already succeeded compared to players that attempt it later. Granted, it also depends on how the progress to get a reward is handled, if even smaller "wins" cam get you closer to the goal then it's mostly fine, but that doesn't really work well in less arcady PvP experiences and with regards to DoaS.
4.0 has been pretty damn solid over the weekend imo. I played a solid 4 or 5 hours without a single server error or major issue. Server fps was usually between 20 and 30 too with a couple of teleports. Got into a pvp instance with no desync an AI NPC's cutting both of us off. Is it perfect? No of course it's not. But does spending another full month or 2 with this in open ptu really help? Not really imo. Just send it. Get a hotfix out as soon as possible. Jake said it before they left, even open PTU doesn't get anywhere near the numbers of live. There are just straight up issues that they cannot even work on until they get live concurrent players to help them get solutions.
Others have said it was good too however I believe it depends on the server and the time! Others have mentioned it being great for about 8-15 hours then they came back and boom down it went and started to crawl and behave horribly!! So if this is the report now what's going to happen when 1000x the users count logs on and starts to play after 4.0 gets released, what is going to happen then? - Well I guess we will all see soon enough! I just hope it's not a disaster😟
I think the most important bit to remember is, if they dont ship it now, they wont work on it *at all* until february - so it virtually does not matter if they push it now or in late january/early february.
Well if they wait and come back February to continue iteration, I doubt they would push to live within the month knowing CiG's development speed. It would probably be pushed to live sometime mid to late March. Then live will probably break everything. I would rather them just get it out now to at least see if it actually breaks the PU and to what scale...
My thoughts exactly. They cant predict everything. The scale of live PU will break the patch in some way shape or form. Just get it out so maybe Q2 next year we might actually start making the game. Push for dynamic... And that's being optimistic too..
3.24 is not in a good state. If it was I’d be more sympathetic to the argument wait on 4.0. 2.0 was a hot mess when it launched years ago. 3.18 I couldn’t even log in on my main for nearly a month. We’ll live. Launch 4.0 with what you have and make it better with a 4.0.x or 4.1.
I feel like you haven't been playing the live version at all. It is unplayable. 4.0 is already better than 3.24.3. I haven't even been able to progress past the phase 1 missions of save stanton because of the bugs in live.

Aptera. Aptera is the car project equivalent. They're going to production every year with their 3 wheeler 1000 mile solar self charging car and every year the crowdinvestors swear its true this time and this and that its actually good that they're taking the extra time! They also sold preorders and then later they sold pre-preorder prioritization. Tho they already went bankrupt once a decade ago. (Anyway its not even registered as a car hence the 3 wheels and just plain not registrable for most of the world at all. Actually its about the time they should be announcing another delay)
You mentioned hospital gowns . If you spawn in a hospital after death, put the hospital gown in your inventory. If you do this, the next time you die , you will reuse the same gown. If everyone did this it might help a little bit 🫡
@@bobroberts7463 No, you are 100% correct its not. But putting a gown in your inventory is the exact same process as droping it on the floor, ie drag and drop. The thing is though one of those actions can affect the games performance negatively, while the other can help to keep it more stable. 🙂
Great video Mike. You're one of the only streamers to report the real Star Citizen stuff. The performance is horrible on the PTU of 4.0 and I don't understand why several streamers refuse to say it!
I agree on the reload issue with a couple of caveats. 1. Reasonable prices that reflect the utility of weapons and not some punishing arbitrary value. 2. 'Favorites' settings for ship setup, such that if you are in a place where weapons are available you can buy and load from VMA with a click on a 'favorite' button.
If purchasing missiles actually worked? Then fine I will pay for them with the Rearm option. If that doesn't work then it's simply another idiotic time-sink.
I’m pretty sure most of us would all agree. I would prefer and be OK with a late 4.0 launch that is stable versus shoving it out the door this year and everything coming down around us. Me personally, I’m not going to give them any shit if they wait.
I was playing EPTU last night and was getting 30 server FPS reliably when not quantum jumping. In quantum it was more like 15. IDK if I was just lucky but I had this experience is two different playing times
Wait, seriously? I expected nothing till today. Thursday ran great in and out of Pyro for me on 060, then Friday ran like absolute ass on 110 and 050, so I stopped testing until today because I couldn't get anything done in terms of checking existing bugs.
what im thinking as some one who hasnt played for like 2 years is when 4.0 comes out. Its gonna be a great time to see Stanton as was intended, while everyone else is mucking around in Pyro XD
Well, you can't choose to only re-arm your guns instead of missiles and torpedoes. If they can split what is re-armed, then they can change missiles not coming with ships.
I'm usually pretty jaded, but these fixes seem like an improvement. I agree with Mike about the torpedo prices, it does have to be a real actual game someday, but with all these bugs we're dealing with? Nah.
i dont play nearly as much as you do, but i did this week fopr a couple hours and 4.0 is ready for live. i dont know why you are so negative about it. not like SC was ever ready for a patch anyways.
I liked the missle changes, i do agree implementing them at a later date is better. But i also have a feeling that they wanna do it with more than just missles. At citizen con when talking about insurance and warranty they just kept saying youll get the hull of the ship back, i can see them making it to where you lose weapons missles and components. Probably wrong
@@Sean-g1m getting just the hull back would mean losing everything sellable. Thats very deliberate wording to point back to, vs. In 2012 saying the ship..
@lassikinnunen that would be the point to prevent duplicating and make losing your ship truly mean something. My biggest thing on the warranty talk was the choice of words saying hull and not saying ship like they always have in the past.

But overall.. pretty excited to see this progress :] I hope the devs don't burn themselves too hard for this release
Surprised you didn't mention the QT bug in the EPTU. Align on certain stations like Seraphim and when it activates, you get rotated completely in the wrong direction and QT a short distance. No workaround.
[Wall ahead] Personally, as far as munitions restock; If they are going for "game" they should just let you restock anywhere for a price (and keep the price high for 1-shot weapons/munitions with respect to economy. I don't want S12 Torps at 15 aUEC/UEC; they SHOULD be prohibitively expensive for small crews and should be "realistically" accessible to large or very-coordinated smaller orgs. Capitals are pinnacle ships, and by the looks of it, using one will be as rare as Titans are in EVE. I don't think they want you pulling a Polaris to do box missions or even VHRTs, tbh (they might consider adding a Capital Class Target/CCT category). If they're going for "sim" then you should only be able to restock munitions at stations that make/sell them. Eg: If your polaris torps can only be bought at Seraphim out of the entire verse, then you should only be able to restock from seraphim OR you can stockpile them as cargo transport to another station/LZ, and then you can restock from a hangar, at that location. And if they're _really_ pushing for "sim" OR are wanting to balance the ease of access for capitals to make them less of a reckless choice to pull/use, then they should also limit which stations will even _accept_ storing certain cargo grid items/munitions (ie: make customs an actual thing instead of just window-dressing on the way to the pads). Yes this will make the space dads angry. I don't care. MMOs live and die based on the health of the average [casual] playerbase. And these players will NOT be in capitals. I want the game to survive for at LEAST as long as my 10-year insurance is for. And for all the space whale dads out there who spent 48k on an MMO, only to demand the ability to solo it like a single-player game; if they get "pushed off" the boat so the game can have staying power, then so be it. Long term (minimum of a decade or longer outlook); If CIG gets their act together, and makes it less complex at the entry level for new players, and invests heavily into VR compatibility; SC could unironically be the "Space SAO/Metaverse" that all those tech companies were trying to chase a few years ago. The potential for this game to be THE game that most of the world plays, consistently; it's almost unfathomably massive. Like WoW but 10x their peak. I'm talking, farmville moms could be logging in to tend their Quasi-Grazer farms for a quick harvesting sesh before their cargo-main husband comes home from work to ferry them to the local market. Maybe that's a bit lofty... but I don't see any other game even being talked about where that's something you _wouldn't_ laugh at being a super-long-term potential. They're so stuck on selling ships that they don't realize they are literally the only company making a game like the one they're making; and that means they can corner/pioneer the market for this type of game... as long as they don't take so long that they lose their "first to market" opportunity. I see SC (in a working state that is "complete," balanced, and fun) as the first _actual_ quad-A game.
I would like a tarkov style inventory/backpack system. It’s tactile. It makes sense. And you get that semi-realism situation that would work well in SC
I think when you file an insurance claim on your car when its wrecked/stolen you get your a new car with the tires. thats what insurance is for. This torpedo/missle controversy is stupid, otherwise dont buy imsurance then you can buy your own stuff
Comparing Ammo to wheels is a mid comparison, your wheels are your thrusters. Insurance Corpos would absolutely try to skimp on having to pay for Torpedos.
Reverting the changes to missiles and torps being excluded from claimed ships was a weird one, because that was never the problem, the problem was that CIG decided missiles and torps need to cost an arm and a leg to restock for some strange reason when there's barely any viable use for them due to server issues causing so many misses. Couple that with them being extremely expensive and players simply stop using them altogether.
As long as component rewards are locked exclusively behind this extraction shooter gameloop I have little incentive to play, because I'm not enough of a masochist to put myself through this hell of doing CZs solo.
Reclaiming ships without missiles/torpes was a bad decision. I am glad, they took it back. Most of the time we are still losing our ships to server errors. And with the grossly inflated prices for missiles and torps, you may just end up with a ship that you can't restock because you don't have the money. Also, restocking currently does not allow you to restock ammo for the guns separately. So I reclaim a ship with ballistics, it comes completely empty and because of the high missile prices I can't even restock my gun ammo? No thanks. Good they realized that it was a very bad choice given the current state of the game / servers / UI.
I've been telling people that 4.0 live will be pretty broken and to not expect anything to be playable i think I'll stay in Stanton just to have lower server issues and grind back up on PvE bounties and whatnot till pyro is more stable. I want the guardian but they keep massacring the Ares again and again like a already dead dog continuing to be beaten. I guess it's just a fighter and no longer a larger ship killer now. Anyway thanks for the videos I'll continue to watch in 2025.
The missile claim reversion absolutely needed to happen. There is no way they can charge this much for missiles before they give the ability to selectively reload ordinance. I should not be forced to pay millions in missile costs just to recharge my chaff and flares! We also have to claim our ships far too often for this to be practical. I'm all for higher costs for ordinance, but only when the game systems can at least basically support it.
How do you recive your rewards from contested zones. If you get a ship as a reward is it a permanent reward that goes to your account or do you fly the ship or of the area? Does it appear at your home base?
Yesterday a new bug started where I had to hit f and then click on everything to interact and that works 50% of the time. I could not get to my ship in less than 15 minutes. It is not my system, I have 100 fps at 4k.withb30% cpu
I was in PU yesterday and it was an absolute mess!!! Almost nothing was working as it should. Couldn't open doors or elevators then when I finally got past that I couldn't spawn any ships. lol So why not drop 4.0 this week as planned. Wipe and patch and let you all complain as normal. Its what ya do.
Keep it on PTU untill it is ready for live. If CIG rushes it out and it breaks for everyone coming back to try it out on live it will be another nail in their coffin.
From what I hear and see I don't see how they are going to successfully launch a Somewhat SOLID 4.0 this year. ( unless they withhold more features ). As soon as it launches a TON of people are going to log on and then soon after many problems WILL ARISE and show its ugly face again! -- Then of course CIG will say " We are working on a hot fix for that!!! and that and that " 🙄 NOTE: I REALLY HOPE I AM WRONG but given their history and from what I keep on hearing the above is the most likely scenario!
hmmm, going to play it after two years of not being able to download the game, yeah that was a thing! As it has downloaded, Wooo!, Will drop what I think here.
I agree that ordinance should NOT be included in an insurance claim. Even the ordinance you didn't fire. If the ship is lost, then insurance should cover ONLY the chassis, the bare ship itself UNLESS you pay ADDITIONAL insurance to cover those items. HOWEVER! That shouldn't happen NOW. That's a 1.0 thing, AFTER the game has come out of alpha state. Ship losses are FAR too common right now for stupid things that, frankly, just shouldn't ever happen. So, while I do agree with the change in the long run, I can't agree with that change RIGHT NOW. It's the wrong time. And? If ordinance isn't included in insurance, then people will mostly just stop rearming with it and just go with their guns. That would be disastrous for testing purposes. They NEED to be testing everything. Including ordinance. ESPECIALLY ordinance. Now, if the prices to rearm that ordinance were negligible, like the price of fuel, then sure, go that way... But to make it not included in insurance AND making it CRAZY expensive to rearm it? Now is not the time for that.
Maybe limit entities and inventories for people so the server isn’t handling 8 trillion entities after 24 hours of going live. It never fails… we don’t need practically unlimited storage all over the verse and ships should despawn after a time keeping the system clean, at least now while servers are trash
Maybe get rid of hospital gowns.. when I got to the hospital and have to wear a gown i usually out of the gown and in my clothes before I get discharged
I actually had more problems in live, than the Ptu. I went to pyro, it looked nice. But, going to live in Stanton. I seriously do not think this should be going to live, yet. But that’s my opinion. However I do think it will go live by this weekend. CIG is going to do whatever it takes to drop this live. I mean look how they have hyped 4.0 in Q4 of 2024. I mean look at what they carved out of this update. Besides, I bet 20.00 against the game being released by 2024. The deal was it had to go live. The ptu doesn’t count. I guess we will see. I think that wouldn't work that well, actually. If people do these over and over and get better gear because they completed it early on, it could potentially cause a form of gatekeeping by players that already succeeded compared to players that attempt it later.
Granted, it also depends on how the progress to get a reward is handled, if even smaller "wins" cam get you closer to the goal then it's mostly fine, but that doesn't really work well in less arcady PvP experiences and with regards to DoaS.
lock it behind FPS & make it a player to player trade thing is an option.
@@FailableGamer Fair point- expanding on what I was thinking. More so ship flying parts should come from ship flying not FPS.
@@Jeremy_Walker lol why should military stealth components be a reward for brainless gathering?
Ready or not, it's going live!
The network changes seemed to help a lot. I like the course prediction in capital ships
Exactly my experience
I haven't even been able to progress past the phase 1 missions of save stanton because of the bugs in live.
last week was total bliss for me, last two days or so though not so much
This.
Live is a disaster and has been for awhile now. The EPTU, even with it's issues, is a way better experience.
I gotta say, I think the doped up weapons and eventually ship rewards from CZ is pretty awesome. That sounds like a ton of fun
They need to stop penalizing us when we "fail" from faulty/broken game mechanics.
There are a lot of people invested in Star Citizen, but let’s be honest - we’re all the 'guy' who’s been promised a car that's been in development for 12 years. Every year, they tell us it’s almost ready, but instead, they keep handing us new parts to test out, saying, ‘Don’t worry, next year it’ll be perfect.’ Meanwhile, we’re still stuck driving a barely functional prototype while they keep telling us, ‘Oh, we’re getting closer!’ The reality is, they’re not focused on finishing it - they’re just milking us for time and money while pretending they’re committed to delivering something complete.
16:25 I hope they smell them too
You mentioned hospital gowns . If you spawn in a hospital after death, put the hospital gown in your inventory. If you do this, the next time you die , you will reuse the same gown. If everyone did this it might help a little bit 🫡
not trying to be mean, but this is crazy. it is not our job to make their game run better.
@@bobroberts7463 No, you are 100% correct its not. But putting a gown in your inventory is the exact same process as droping it on the floor, ie drag and drop. The thing is though one of those actions can affect the games performance negatively, while the other can help to keep it more stable. 🙂
@@Digital_Tengu gowns shouldn’t even be a thing, looks more futuristic without them
How hard it is to put a time limit, let's say 3 minutes and than the thing disappears? Is coding the thing soooo hard???? Ask Yogi...
Is this a joke?
Great video Mike. You're one of the only streamers to report the real Star Citizen stuff. The performance is horrible on the PTU of 4.0 and I don't understand why several streamers refuse to say it!
CIG all we need is server stability, you can focus later in cosmetics and game loops
It's likely 10 servers for now, but I imagine once they get the bugs fixed, and optimise, they may reduce those.
Always looking forward to week in review.
The insurances and claiming should be more hard to do/claim for the player ONCE the game is much more stable. Not bug free, but breaking bug free.
We had sunday patch, and oh boy, was so smooth
Wait, seriously? I expected nothing till today. Thursday ran great in and out of Pyro for me on 060, then Friday ran like absolute ass on 110 and 050, so I stopped testing until today because I couldn't get anything done in terms of checking existing bugs.
what im thinking as some one who hasnt played for like 2 years is when 4.0 comes out. Its gonna be a great time to see Stanton as was intended, while everyone else is mucking around in Pyro XD
Yo, these videos have been really good! Learning something new each week these days
Well, you can't choose to only re-arm your guns instead of missiles and torpedoes. If they can split what is re-armed, then they can change missiles not coming with ships.
If they don't you might just as well spam the missiles as the first things since you'll lose them anyway if you blow up
I'm usually pretty jaded, but these fixes seem like an improvement.
Whenever I went into CZ my Avatar would throw my gun instead of shooting it. Went to my hanger, and it works fine It's crazy.
not intersted in PTU and not seen anything in the past year worth logging in for... Elite's event has highlighted how low the SC Bar is now... maybe back in 6 months for the next update.
Their shit is so broken they have to spawn you in your hangar now lol...
If you could re-arm countermeasures and ballistic ship weapons without missiles. Then they could have missiles not come back when being claimed.
There are alot of other good games to play. But I do appreciate everyone being alpha testers for the 4.0 release
I've really been enjoying the atmosphere's on the pyro stations 🥺 Server performance has been great, funnily enough better than my client performance xD And the interaction mode was absolutely unusable the last time I logged in.
Same, they were going this direction then shifted for some reason
Thanks for all you do Mike! Love your content!
Seems like 4.0 will roll out with the placeholder inventory UI from the very first change, with borked filter/tooltip overlays 😢
I don't kow what kind of deal they have with Amazon, but if they're using regular AWS pricing, they should really rethink that.
As long as component rewards are locked exclusively behind this extraction shooter gameloop I have little incentive to play, because I'm not enough of a masochist to put myself through this hell of doing CZs solo.
i really like the loading screens being specific to location tbh as weird as that is
I still use my manta sleep. Love them.
15:16 wait... how do you stream then? 😅
Thanks as always Mike! Great Update!
I want the cargo version. The Mirai Carry.
Can you use the hand miner on space rocks if you don't have a ship for it?
Nope only hand mining rocks around 10 mass or something
I'm annoyed they teased the Caterpillar cargo doors in ISC but they didn't update that ship :c
If they disable the sleep and dance emotes, how am I supposed to extricate myself from ship walls I clip through when using a ladder?
Did anyone consider a checkbox for restocking on claiming with an additional charge?
Yesterday a new bug started where I had to hit f and then click on everything to interact and that works 50% of the time. I could not get to my ship in less than 15 minutes. It is not my system, I have 100 fps at 4k.withb30% cpu
is the reputation system meant to enable you to land without being shot at for tresspassing at landing zones?
Great vid love the channel Mike 💯
Do you keep the ship from the contested zone if it's destroyed?
CIG DOES smell millions of those. :D
-- Then of course CIG will say " We are working on a hot fix for that!!! and that and that " 🙄
NOTE: I REALLY HOPE I AM WRONG but given their history and from what I keep on hearing the above is the most likely scenario!
So they are removing a bunch of components from the shops in 4.0? Where the hell are we supposed to get those items then?
You have to PVP in Pyro to get them.
It's literally been explained over and over.. ffs
@KA317S There is no need to be an ass about it. This was the first I've heard of the issue.
@@IceSki117same. Not everyone watches hours upon hours of Star citizen videos every day to stay up to date with all this nonsense.
hmmm, going to play it after two years of not being able to download the game, yeah that was a thing!
4:52 mike can u pls ask ur editor what song he used here. I really like it
X4 baby dont get left on the CIG train im ouut and many others
Thank you for your great work! Your channels are very informativ - I hope you keep it up 👍
a lot of micro managing, they look past critical foundation elements and issues,
that make the game, a game.
Release it to Live already, much better than 3.24! Stop thinking it’s going to be perfect.
Props for posting your gameplay, not like some bored youtubers who put the same sh*t from 2023 while talking
That is one sad bed.
Love the game though.
I soon give up on Star Citizen, its not fun anymore when its geting worse for every updste. The game is broken beyond repair sadley 😢
I would buy the ship even if they waited til Jan to release 4.0
Thanks Mike!
I hope they wait until February to release the 4.0 since they're already going on vacation and there's still a ton of bugs
Salty mike would complain about being handed the formula to turn lead into gold because the bricks are heavy. good grief.
Honestly I hope they just wait until it's in a more playable state
Unfortunately marketing runs the game and they demand to sell the Guardian before the end of the year because sales are behind.
I get people wanting some realism in a game, but it is a game. It is not reality. It is meant to be fun and not a job.
Did DJ send you a tiny gnome to put under your monitor? GN
I have not seen anything about star citizen for the last two years . What’s going on. ?
Zero chance 4.0 goes LIVE this year.
Is it broken?
Is it CIG?
maybe, and this might sound crazy, get rid of the hospital gowns....
