    The Crossfire MkI is a combination gun - both a rifle and shotgun with the two barrels sharing a single pump action mechanism. The shotgun is a 12ga bore, with a 4-round tubular magazine located on top of the buttstock. The rifle is a 5.56mm NATO barrel feeding from a bottom-mounted AR-15 pattern magazine. The initial design was debuted at SHOT Show in 1988, as a semiauto .308/12ga combination gun with a more conventional appearance, but it wasn't until about 10 years later that the first guns actually hit the market, and they were 5.56mm and pump action only.
    The Crossfire was, I believe, intended for folks who expected the combination of a rifle and shotgun to produce a universally handy weapon, suitable for any circumstance. The pump action simplified the design significantly, and also allowed the designers to use standard AR type magazines during the era of the US Assault Weapons Ban (1994-2004). In reality, however, the Crossfire is exceedingly awkward and requires a non-trivial amount of practice to run reliably (that pump handle is very far forward...). The gun had an initial MSRP of just under $2000; an insane price tag that helped solidify its position as a dismal commercial failure.

      I would like to say the AR barrel is exposed and rests on top of the shooters wrist. And is also taking a beating from the pump action. If/when that barrel explodes your going to loose a hand, or at the very least a lot of blood.

So I went ahead and purchased and waited another year to receive my rifle. Well to my surprise that it did show up and it was pump action. Every issue you had operating that weapon was exactly the same
    I had with my weapon, including the Jams while not in battery. I thought it was operator error and it was put away for like 5 years. I finally just got rid of it. Terrible gun, terrible system, and this video just brings it all back.

    What if I told you that I saw this rifle rolling around my local police department back in the early 2000s? And I live in a tiny countryside city... in midwestern Brazil.
    How the hell did such a weapon end up down here? I'm not sure, but probably whoever sold this gun in South America must have made a deal with a politician... and politicians here don't know shit about how guns work, so even though it's an overpriced hunk of metal, he was probably told he was actually saving money on it because it was a two-for-one, a fucking space-age wonder weapon or whatever.
    All I can say is that I have never seen any cops patrolling the streets with these guns around here, now I know why.

Second, as an aesthetic experience, this gun combines the kinetics of a pump action shotgun, the coolest kind of shotgun kinetically speaking, and a proper infantry rifle.

    If you’re going to have a conceptually awesome gun that fails horrifically in the execution, you might as well put as much oomph as possible into the “conceptually awesome” part.

    I feel the core idea was/is a good idea. Having a AR 15/M16 with an internal 12 gauge shotgun provides a lot of flexibility with all the specialty military 12 gauge shells available(door buster, buckshot, slug, grenade, flare, incendiary, tazer, etc), and unlike master key like systems, aiming and firing is more natural.
    However, the execution was just awful, and most likely tied to the assault weapon ban. Essentially, they likely started with a complicated/innovative semi auto (or even full auto) design, but after the ban, macgyvered a legal pump act version. So they took an already tricky design, and made it a cluster f*****.

    • @j.murphy4884
      @j.murphy4884 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, the idea of a combination rifle/shotgun for hunting has been around and popular since the Victorian era, but they're always very simple break action single shot weapons.
      What did this thing in is that having any sort of repeating action makes any gun more complex, trying to cram two actions into one gun is just flying too close the the sun.
      I seriously doubt anyone was trying to market this to anyone other then civilians, it's just not a concept that any military or law enforcement agency would be interested in. It's a civilian hunter's tool, for use in areas with mixed game.
