Buckeye Lake would be a swampy marsh (at best) had it not been for the building of the Canal System. The need to hold water caused the entire lake to form. Take away the dam and we return to a muddy marsh that would quite frequently dry up (relatively speaking) in summer months.

We live in lockbourne so we knew that was an important area but didn’t know about the new path. Now we will have to go see it lol

Buckeye Lake was formed by glaciers and is an example of a Kettle lake. The canal system may be true, but that isn't how it started.

Winter sports on the water is safer and freezes faster when it’s shallow in the winter when the depth is lower.
It certainly does freeze over!
