      Great thing about creek fishing is the potential to catch a bunch of species. Thanks for watching!

    Yeah the state of Ohio stocked a lot of places around SW Ohio with Saugeyes, including the Great Miami too.

    That's a CHONKY rock bass!
    Big fan of fishing a green pumpkin tube on a 1/8 jig and just slow dragging it across the bottom.
    I feel like if it's a rocky/sandy bottom it isn't even necessary to pop it much. Definitely an underrated bait for creek smallies in my opinion.

      I work the tubes similar to a ned rig, but they aren't quite as effective in my opinion. This was also during the time when a lot of creeks were off because of spawning so that may have caused less catches. I agree though, it's pretty underrated!

    I'm really enjoying your creek videos I myself go around the creeks and fish around here in southeast Michigan not too far from where you're at I just subscribed

      Thanks for subscribing. I'm guessing you're just a short drive from Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair. I'll eventually fish those spots.

    Based on the spots on the dorsal fin, I'd say saugeye. Sauger has only distinct spots whereas saugeye have spots and streaks.

    One of the best lure to catch those gar pike are an 'in-line' spinner, use a #2 bluefox, slow rollin near the surface of the water. Also, I've fished in all states of rainfall, it's by far my favorite time to fish, altho at this time of the year I don't know as I'm living in southern ontario, our bass fishin doesn't start till the end of June. That being said, when mid summer shows up and you look at the sky's in the distance looking dark, clouds are churnin and commin atcha from the north...ring ring 'hey boss, I'm gonna need a day off'. :) :)

    • @creeksforweeks5690
      @creeksforweeks5690  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We get a ton of random summer thunderstorms so these pre rain conditions show up a lot. I'll have to try that lure for gar. I'm assuming you probably need a wire leader?

    • @wickwireiop5931
      @wickwireiop5931 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@creeksforweeks5690 I've never used one, however I've been using Berkeley Fireline since it came out, maybe 2 decades or so and never had a bite off, looks like your using floro so it's up to you. I should say tho that gar typically snap at their prey with the tip of their snout to paralyze it, their pretty accurate and that's where you'll get the hook set.

      @creeksforweeks5690  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wickwireiop5931 Ahhh okay. I use mono so I'm not sure how well it will work, but I'll try that lure next time I see a gar.

    I actually do try to buy lures as I lose them unless it's something I just don't have but feel I could really use.
    I feel like I actually save money that way as opposed to shopping sales because I'll buy more than I need if I follow sales.

    • @creeksforweeks5690
      @creeksforweeks5690  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea that's what I do now. I think I'll wait for Black Friday to buy things in Bulk. We'll see if that's actually a money saver lol. Thanks for watching!

    Yeah man, Little Miami is or used to be pretty good. A lot of creeks and things around SW Ohio, the ones I know of, have been fished to death, well not a lot of good sized fish in them. To catch good sized fish you have to basically go way out away from SW Ohio, to find good holes to fish, the places around SW Ohio, the creeks and things, guys who fish the paylakes have got those places thinned out, for bait that is. I can't complain to much about that bcuz I used to fish the paylakes too, whole lot of damn paylakes all over Ohio, Indiana too and Northern KY.

    I tend to buy certain things in bulk when they go on sale and I know I use them. Like, I use lipless cranks often so whenever KVD had a sale at Bass Pro I’ll grab multiple in a variety of sizes.
    Soft plastics I just buy whenever since they’re cheaper.

    • @creeksforweeks5690
      @creeksforweeks5690  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the advice. I'll probably buy the more expensive lures in bulk during Black Friday or something.

    Crazy to see those gar hanging out there. Maybe they were spawning. Those fish looked like a sauger to me. Plus spotted bass, largemouth bass, a lot of smallies. Great job! No fun getting rained on there at the end

    • @creeksforweeks5690
      @creeksforweeks5690  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Awesome video !! Wading our local creeks is my favorite way to fish. I fish the East Fork of the LMR quite a lot and while my target species is smallies i love all the bonus species you get. Those toothy critters were saugeye. Sauger are much thinner and smaller. Keep the vids coming. Great job. My first few vids are almost ready .

      Yea, I need to purchase some of that. The nikko swimbaits don't need anything, though. They're the toughest plastics I've ever seen.
